Official Dancing With the Stars: Season 18

I'm very excited for Danica that she is dancing with Maks. I'm sure that as the big fan of the show that she is, it's very exciting for her to dance with one of the most popular pros. On the one hand, I might have rather have seen her with Derek since Maks and Val are so similar, but on the other hand, I really enjoyed their dance. Plus, it's always fun when someone can bring up the rivalry between Val and Maks.

I really can't tell what the judges are going to like and not like. They seemed to score Candace just a bit low, Drew seemed crazy overscored, and then they seemed so harsh with Danica who had the dance I most enjoyed thus far. And Julianne's comments to Maks about just wanting to get through this week seemed harsh. I didn't get that impression at all.

On a different note, I crack up when I see Bruno in the background tapping his pen to help him count and make sure that the dancers are on beat.

I loved Mak's comeback that he would never be Mark.

What is up with Julianne's eyebrows? They seem really dark. I am tired of hearing her say she has to be tough. Sounds really contrived.

Mark is terrible. I need to vote for Amy to save her.

ETA - everyone else seemed to love it! Did I miss something?

I didn't think it was bad, but I did think it was very safe. I was commenting to my husband and Derek certainly seems to have more confidence in her and gives her more challenging choreography. I completely disagreed with Carrie Anne (no surprise there) when she said that Derek covers up Amy and Mark really helped her shine.

If you missed anything I missed it too, lol. I think Amy had the role of Pro more than Mark did :rolleyes1

I agree about Julianne's comments. That type of comment has nothing to do with Danica and the way she performed which is what Julianne is supposed to be judging. There's no need for her to share her personal feelings about Maks and her impressions of what he is feeling. Totally irrelevant to anything. Also, the dance was good! So why the rude commentary?

The guest judges always annoy me anyway, but that was really uncalled for.

I didn't really like NeNe and Derek's dance...but the judges have nothing but good things to say

I thought from the comments the scores would be higher. I think 8s are about right.

And what gets me is that I always like Julianne. I thought she was absolutely adorable when she was on the show and really loved her when she and Derek were on an episode of Punk'd. But that comment? Uncalled for. Maks has never been my favorite pro from a teaching style standpoint. He just comes off a bit too abrasive for my tastes. But now I really feel for him. In no way did I feel he was just trying to get through the week. How would she even know? Because of the 3 minutes of footage that the producers showed? Three minutes out of a full week of rehearsal ad Julianne thinks she knows what was going on in Maks brain? Obnoxious.

I agree about Julianne. That had nothing to do with the dance. It was an attack on Maks. Carrie Ann likes to slip them in too. :sad2:

It makes me so sad for Tony. They said that was her best dance of the season. Candace did pretty worse than in past weeks. That has to hurt Tony. And I don't want Tony hurt. There is no reason that that man shouldn't have that world-famous smile on his face at all times.

Me too. I always liked her when she was a pro on the show. Even when she was a little rude to Mark last time she judged, I thought it was not really intentional. It seemed she was just trying to give his partner advice having partnered with him herself and it came off a bit derogatory towards Mark. But this was just straight up rude and as you said, how would she even know how Maks was feeling or acting all week?

Meryl is SO much more laid back than when skating. I didn't know until I saw her on DWTS that she wasn't always that serious and focused. She says how shy she is/was..not seeing that AT ALL now, lol. I get the feeling she has a lot of "wild times" to catch up on ;)

Ugh, I keep accidentally posting with DD's ID.

Trying again:
Charlie should never slick his hair back again. A couple weeks ago I read an MSN recap that said his hair is made of magic and puppies. I think the puppies were suffocated tonight.

I liked to see how they missed their old partners. I guess you would get pretty close spending that much time together.

I wonder if the Producers didn't encourage her? Several of her comments lead me to believe they were involved. :( No matter, what she said to Maks was inappropriate. (and her eyebrows bugged me! Such a gorgeous woman, but those things were all I could focus on! :rotfl:)

I also felt so bad for Tony. No love from the judges at all. :confused3 He seems to be an incredible teacher and a truly nice person. He has had to endure so much (think Kate!) during his many seasons on the show and yet his enthusiasm and that gorgeous smile still light up the screen! :thumbsup2

Danica's dance was full of gimmicky stuff that was not necessary and the wardrobe change was so strange. My DD said it looked like what was left was a bathing suit.. Very odd to me like she is trying too hard or something.. Also- anyone else notice that Danica doesn't seem to wear heels when she is dancing? Last night she had those weird shoes with a wedge but it wasn't even that high of a shoe, unlike the other dancers they had in the skit with them.. Maybe all of those things are what made it seem to Julianne that it was just a muster through this and get back to the real competition next week attitude on Maks' part.

I actually liked Mark's dance with Amy. It did seem quite different from what Derek has been having her do and it was clearly a challenge for both of them in this change up week.

So next week is Disney week. That sounds like something we all might enjoy, right? What do you think that means? Will the stars each take on the role of a Disney character and dance to a song from that character's movie?

Song for sure, and I'd guess costume will be inspired by character/song. Should be interesting to see.
