Official Dancing With the Stars, season 16 thread

A little bummed that Zendaya got the paso for her team dance. Nothing at all against Val as I'm sure he will do a good job, but Derek's paso's really shine. I look forward to his paso doble's each season. But, he and Mark really do seem to do well together so I'm sure that their samba will be great. And Kym is team paso and she seems to do a rather excellent job of choreographing them, as well.

Some random thoughts.

The right person went home. I was SO tired of watching D.L stomp around the floor in Master P. style, and even MORE tired of him playing the black/inner city/gang/dumb card every time he opened his mouth. What an idiot, IMHO.

Love Andy, but I have a feeling his days are numbered.

Really don't get the vitriolic hatred for some of the pros on this thread. Sure, I have my favorites, but wow - how you guys talk about Anna! She's a person too, not a evil monster; and never reached out of the TV and danced on your toes or stole your puppies from what I can see!! :confused3 Same goes for Mark! I don't concern myself too deeply with any of the pros, beyond liking their choreography, or thinking they are nice eye candy. ::yes:: The only one right now that I could do without is the creepy looking one in the troop. Nothing against him personally, but he kind of looks like a vampire, and not the sparkly kind. A little creepy. :scared1:

Usually I like the Macy's Stars of Dance routines, but not last night. For some reason, that lady's voice was just... weird to me. I found the song annoying, and the "dancing" (writhing) on the piano got old really fast.

I have a feeling that Andy's risque comment may cost him next week. People who want to keep this a clean family show so they can watch with their kids will be pulling their votes next week.

Well, I guess anything is possible. Not my house though. Anyone who "got" what he was saying just laughed really hard, and anyone too young to get it didn't pay any attention. :confused3

I don't like Mark because I usually don't like his choreography. Like Anna, it's all about him and not his star. Even with someone like Aly he relies too much on simple choreography while he struts around like a rooster mugging for the camera. I *did* really like his Contemporary dance a couple weeks ago because he focused on Aly and toned it down for himself.

I know, I know, I've read the sticky. I just happen to think it is silly. You base your entire hated of a human being you don't even know on one episode of a "reality" show that happened YEARS ago. Just seems uncalled for and a little judgmental to me. :confused3 JMHO.

And as for Mark, it is Ok if you don't like his choreography. We all have our likes and dislikes. What it all comes down to though, is we are armchair-quarterbacking. I am most certainly not a dance pro, and Mark gets decent scores from the judges, so he must be doing OK as far as they are concerned.

I understand why people don't like Anna, but am at a loss for why those same people don't dislike Karina, as well. I mean, Karina has literally walked out on at least two of her partners. Anna only "wronged" one. I also don't really feel like Anna makes it all about her with her partners, but have felt like Karina did that... especially in earlier seasons.:confused3

I don't dislike Mark. I do prefer his dancing when he is doing a group number that he didn't choreograph, though. I much preferred his choreography in earlier seasons, as well. There once was a time when Derek, Mark, and Julianne were the best part of DWTS with their fabulous choreography and their amazing chemistry when they danced together. Then, Michael Jackson died and Mark seemed to feel like he needed to fill the void with his choreography. And I have no idea where those facial expressions came from, but he does seem to be toning those down. That makes me happy.

I really think that Cheryl and Karina are the only pros that I don't really like. I wasn't really a fan of Edyta, but that is because I felt that she was always parading around naked and all of her dances looked the same to me.

I can only speak for myself, but I was not a big fan of Karina's for a long time. She used to be so demanding, impatient and snippy. She redeemed herself in my eyes in season 13 with JR Martinez. Her attitude and demeanor changed with him. The next season she was given Gavin DeGraw and she was very patient with him ... far more than she would have been with someone like him a few seasons before.

I am able to overlook walking out on one of your partners in certain circumstances. Tony walking out on Kate Gosselin comes to mind. :rotfl:

I do agree with you that she seems to have gotten a lot better when it come to patience with her partners. She was wonderful with JR.:goodvibes

I really don't think that will happen. First I don't think it was that risque, second if your that worried about the kids you're not letting them watch anyway because of some of the costumes the ladies wear.

What will cost Andy is his bad dancing! Andy and Victor should be the next two to go unless we see some real improvement.

I so agree about D.L., the man never smiled. I thought some of Len's comments were over the line but the man could not dance. I think that maybe D.L. was not practicing enough in the first few weeks and I think the judges know how many hours they put in each week. I'm surprised he made it this far.

What Karina did, she did to her own partner. That was squabbles & frustration between them. Derek & Maks have also, at times walked out on their partners.

Anna purposely tanked another pro's partner and chances, for her own personal gain & out of laziness to learn Chelsie's dance and to do the right thing for Mark D. That shows her character.

Quote by author, Poet Laureate, Maya Angelou, "People always show you who they are in the first 20 minutes of meeting them. Our problem is that we don't believe what we see. BELIEVE IT!"

Anna showed her true character.

As for Mark, reread what RobinB said. She forgot all the weird facial expressions he does, too. He's all tacky flash and not much substance when he can get away with it. If I have to see another shimmy from his partner, I'll scream!
gah.gif

You can't say that was how he was taught. As he, Derek and Derek's sister, Julianna, all learned ballroom dancing from Mark's parents. Derek & Julianna's dances, style & choreography are superb, sophisticated & elegant. Mark's dances look like he studied from a tape bought from Walmart. :p

(These of course are only my opinions and you may disagree. :goodvibes )

I'll scream right along with you! My "shimmy count" for Monday was

. BTW, I thought I covered his facial expressions with "mugging for the camera" pirate: but that's exactly what I meant :thumbsup2.

I thought you meant his "mugging for the camera" was the way he takes off his shirts, and yes, puffs up his chest strutting around like a rooster. :headache:

And that is what I just do not understand. Derek might break the rules here and there, but his choreography is, at least in my opinion absolutely top notch. In fact, I wouldn't know that he broke the rules if Len didn't point it out. When she was on the show, Julianne also did an absolutely wonderful job with her choreography. Both were trained by Corky and Shirley Ballas. Ballas as in Mark Ballas. He was raised around it. Julianne and Derek might have trained with them, but Mark lived it from the day he was born. Why is his choreography so weird when the other two do such a lovely job?

I don't an opinion yay or nay about most the pros, I barely know their names. What I don't get is the love for some of them, especially a huge slick womanizer that makes me sick.

I only really know and like Cheryl Burke from season 1. I watch just for the so called "celebs" and wonder whose celebrity will be reborn by this show and a lot have had that happen!

   :faint: What Andy just said about wanting to be on a team dance with Kellie Pickler so that their team can be called (her last name + his last name).

Then Brooke, instead of just ignoring it and letting it pass and moving onto talk about something else, had to keep saying, "You can't say something like that! You can't say something like that! TOM!!! TOM!!!"

Now every kid watching wants to know what that was about. :sad2:

I thought it was pretty funny...and would have been even funnier if he'd said HIS last name first. :rotfl: Like Kellie said, they didn't get to choose their last names!

DL's dance wasn't so good; not surprised he was the one to go. After reading about Master P over here, I watched one of his DWTS performances on youtube. Wow, he was awesomely bad. DL was nowhere near that bad!

BUMP! :yay: Everyone ready for Stevie Wonder night? What's your fav Stevie song? I really like "Superstition", but he has so many great ones it's kind of hard to choose.

I'm a BIG Stevie fan, saw him sing Fingertips when he was a youngster in person and then was assigned to write a paper about him in college. Mind you, I wrote a 25 page paper about a then 27 year old man!!! :thumbsup2

My favorite song is "As" which everyone thinks is named 'Always". My second fave is 'You Haven't Done Nothing" but I'm sure it's WAY too unPc to run on the air.
