Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

Schedule notes:
Valkyrie will be repeated tomorrow at 9 PM; Dreamworld will air Monday at 10:01 PM.

I finished reading Wild Storm the other day, the newest Derrick Storm novel. It wasn't bad, but I prefer the Nikki Heat books.

But the DS books are more fun - it's certainly easier to pick out the "Castle" stuff. For instance:

1. DS works with Kevin "Bryan" & Javier "Rodriguez" at the CIA

2. He meets Stanford Raynes, who was the murderer in a season 2 episode, "Wrapped In Death".

3. victims of plane crashes include
Erik Vaughn, a Congressman who is described as beady eyed, puffy faced

Rachel McCord, a porn star

Pi, the leader of the International Order of Fruitarians. He's described as looking like a Muppet, and the IOF is described as a cult. DS says that "A father would go to any length to protect his daughter from a monster like that."

4. the Congressman who takes over for Vaughn on the House Ways & Means committee is Jared Stack

5. Carl Storm, DS's dad, knew a Lt. Marlowe during the Vietnam War

6. DS runs into Jack Bronson. JB was the ex-Marine who abducted Castle in the 1st episode of season 6

7. DS also meets Carlos Villante. Carl Villante was Beckett's boss in DC and Rick told him he'd put him in a book.

I didn't see Eunice anywhere, but her namesake is a fan of the Nikki Heat books, so maybe she'll be in there.

It wasn't a bad read, Derrick Storm is an interesting character. Clara Strike does make an appearance too.

I haven't tried Derrick Storm. I really like Nikki Heat--so much so that I've read all 5 of them twice already. I have Raging Heat on order for when it comes out. I'm wondering how it will be addressed on the show, since Castle is supposed to be out of commission at the beginning of the season and the book comes out in September. I know earlier this season in one of the shows they had him saying he would be on his book tour in September.

re: him being out of commission-
1. they will pick up where they left off - which is May, as they have done the last few years. (for instance, season 4 picked up right after she was shot, season 5 was the 'morning after' and season 6 picked up after he proposed)
2. then after we (and they) find out what happened to Rick (because as has been said before, he ain't dying - the show is called Castle after all) - they'll have the time jump. Either he's OK, they'll have the wedding/honeymoon, or something happened, they look for him, find him, then he'll need rehab of some kind etc. They did the time jump in the first episode the last few years, too - her rehab at her dad's cabin (season 4), her suspension (season 5) and last year, we didn't see the first 2 months after they were engaged he was on his book tour, she was in DC.)

I really love the NH books too. I've read them a few times myself. Great literature? no, but the murder mystery is usually good, and I always enjoy the interaction between Nikki and Rook. It'll be interesting to see if they ever get engaged, etc. like Kate and Rick.

wow - they mention "unaired Castle and Kate moment from the season 4 finale." I don't know how many of you know about this, but a few months ago, it came out that there was a longer love scene then was shown from "Always". Miller and Marlowe showed it to a group they were talking to about screenwriting and someone tweeted about it. Well, as you can guess, Twitter blew up with fans begging to see it. It seemed like they (MillMar) didn't want to share it, but I bet the fan response wore them down.

And there will be a longer scene of Seamus Dever singing, James Brolin on the commentary of "Deep Cover", commentary on "Belly of the Beast", etc.etc. Sounds good to me.

Yeah, I get that, but I'm really wondering how they will resolve the whole thing. I kind of wish it turns out to be a nightmare, considering how stressed Kate was. I don't want it to be a nightmare that erases weeks, just the previous "marriage" and the crash.

That won't be known until the season 7 premier.

Very long post ahead:

Now that a month has passed (just about, tomorrow is a month), here are my thoughts on where they could possibly be going. Of course, some of that depends on what really happened in that finale.

Some possible scenarios:

1. All of it happened, but we didn’t see Rick get out of the car before it went over the cliff. He’s being patched up and he was the one who told the EMT/police to call her.
2. None of it happened; it was all Kate’s nervous dreams.
3. Some of it happened (up to Kate running to see the car in flames), the ending was Martha’s dream.
4. All of it happened, but Rick was kidnapped by someone:
a. 3XK and/or Kelly
b. Bracken’s people/bad guy he hired before the arrest
c. A crazed fan who feels that if she/he can’t have Rick, no one can
d. A bad guy from their past
e. A bad guy from her past
f. A bad guy from his past

Now to agree/disagree with each:

1. The least possible scenario. Yes, the show doesn’t always follow logic (the whole premise of the show is impossible, of course) but I just don’t see this one happening. My dad finds this one funny– he calls it the “Saturday morning serial” version. He always talks about going to the movies as a kid and seeing the not logical ways they got out of trouble.
2. While part of me likes this answer (her “one and done” speech still applies, they can have the wedding as the whole episode, etc.) I hope they don’t go this way. Some of you may remember the Bobby Ewing/Dallas dream debacle, and this would just be a repeat of that. That would be lazy writing, in my opinion.
3. While I don’t like the dream part of it (see above), this isn’t as bad. As long as they could have the wedding! But I don’t think this is it either.
4. I think this is the most likely scenario. It just depends on which bad guy you pick:
a. They were my first thought. After all, they both have used elaborate plans to do their dirty deeds. 3XK did manage to hack into the precinct video feed and confront Rick and there was no proof. He bugged the loft. She had an entire medical practice shut down in no time. Tyson/Kelly could have discovered Rogan, found out about the Vegas ‘marriage’, hacked into the marriage license database and added the fake marriage there (thus answering how Kate passed a background check), paid off Rogan to make him have Kate do that stuff for him, etc.
b. Bracken would still be a threat. He could have set things in motion before he was arrested.
c. I hope they aren’t doing a “Misery” rip off unless Rick gets to make silly comments about Steven King
d. So many to chose from – but I have a guess. Remember “Headhunters”, the season 4 episode with Adam Baldwin as Slaughter? Remember the drug lord he was trying to get rid of - think the name was Valens or something like that? The one that Kate told to “leave my city”? Well, he could have the juice to do all the things 3XK/Kelly could do – fix records, etc.
e. & f of course are possible, and could be anything.

My bet is on d – and that particular bad guy. Why?

1. I think they are done with the Bracken story. In real life, he wouldn’t have even been arrested yet! They really didn’t have enough to get him. But this is TV, so it all works out. I just have a feeling that they want that story done – now Kate can move on and marry Rick.
2. As I said, my first thought was 3XK/Kelly too. Just seemed to fit their MO. But that’s why I decided it wasn’t them. There has been a bit of a pattern – first he went after Kevin (selling his gun to Philip Lee), then Rick (Probable Cause), then Lanie & Espo. He hasn’t directly gone after Kate yet. Yes, if Rick had been killed in PC, that would have been terrible for her, but it’s not direct. So if Kate had been the one in the car, or if she had been kidnapped from the venue, I’d go with 3XK.
3. I really don’t like the Misery rip-off for the reasons above

So my guess? The bad guy from their past. And in fact, the bad guy I mentioned above. Like I said, he could have done some of the elaborate planning – the venue having a fire, the hacking of the database, Rick being run off the road. They will need a bad guy for the future, right?

I do think they will find Rick by the end of the first episode. Whether the wedding happens in the 2nd episode (after a time jump) or in a later episode, I have a feeling it will be a smaller wedding – not an elopement at a courthouse, but on the beach at the Hamptons house. This time, no 300 guests, but just their family – Alexis, Martha, Jim, Lanie, Espo, Kevin, Jenny, and Gates.

None of this is based on anything I’ve read or seen on the internet in the past month. And trust me, there are some elaborate thoughts out there – for instance, someone has linked things that happened in Veritas with the finale to prove their points. (it was a bit confusing for me – “this part is Kate’s dream, this is Martha’s, this is Lanie’s….”) this is 100% me guessing what could be. I’ve been wrong before – last year, I didn’t think she’d take the DC job, and I thought they’d wait to be engaged. So take what I wrote here with a grain of salt……

Interesting speculations, Missy. As someone who actually watched "Dallas" when they did the infamous Dream season, please no dreams. I'm leaning towards 3XK/Kelly being the villains.

I wasn't watching then, but I remember the hoopla and the jokes. And didn't Gary & his wife name one of their babies Bobby to honor Bobby (on Knots Landing), so he was still dead for that show. It was a mess.

Like I said, they were my first choice. And it wouldn't surprise me if it were them. It is his/their MO after all. It's just that so many people have picked them as the villains, and Marlowe loves to do the opposite of what people expect (ie, she took the job in DC, when almost everyone thought she wouldn't) But if it turned out to be them? Wouldn't surprise and/or bother me.

Lots of good stuff in "A Murder is Forever". Interesting case, interesting relationship stuff too....

Favorite quotes:

Castle: “See, I’m honoring you by inviting you into my territory, and Linus is part of that territory."
Beckett: “And if you want to be invited into my territory again, you should probably rethink that."

(honestly, when I heard that one I was glad I laughed for a long time)

Ryan: “I don’t know about you but I’m very comfortable in my masculinity."
Esposito: “You do realize you’re wearing a sweater vest, right?"

In the opening scene:

Beckett: “There’s been a murder."
Castle: “Yeah, of Linus’ feelings."

after Castle spins some theory:

Beckett: “That is surprisingly plausible."
Castle: “I know, right?"

and in the end scene:

Castle: “These pieces all over, these are all my stories, but the shells, that’s ours."
Beckett: “I like our story."
Castle: “Yeah, me too."

loved the first scene between Rick & Kate when they discuss Linus.

loved the scene with the elephants on Kate's desk.

loved when Ryan asks Gates "sir, considering that this guy tried to kill me and Espo for that diamond, mind if we go in there and get some answers?” and that Gates just looked at him as if to say "of course"

loved the scene at the end with the seashells.

interesting case with lots of twists and turns. It did get a little rushed at the end, but all in all it was good. It is a little bit crazy how often they fall into the "we struggled for the gun & it went off".

And who thought the guy in the car with her in the first scene was the killer? I thought that for a minute, but soon realized no.

and the clowns were creepy!

Good episode, but next week's looks really good, I can't wait to see it.

I had to quote myself - someone told me on Twitter that the writers did that on purpose - that way, casual viewers would see the elephants. So I guess it pays to pay attention.
