Here is an anniversary cake I ordered for my parents last week at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Although it was beautiful, and my parents loved the cake, I was also slightly disappointed by the process of ordering a custom cake from Disney. Even though I confirmed the order the order three days before, it was not exactly what I ordered. It was a 6 inch, vanilla cake, with chocolate buttercream frosting, dark chocolate mousse filling, cream fondant with gold stamped Mickeys, a Donald, and a Tinkerbell, and the white chocolate Mickey and Minnie Topper. I have more pictures of the details, but haven't figured out how to post multiple pictures yet.

I'm going to order my cake 2 weeks before my trip. And I was thinking of calling to confirm it. Is 48 hours good? Do I just confirm it on the cake line?

Hi

Can anyone tell me what characters they do as the chocolate statues/toppers for the cakes.

I'm especially looking for Pluto and Dumbo.

Many thanks

Can I ask how much this cake was? Did you use the cake line, or did you call the Grand Floridian direct?

Thanks

We ordered this cake for my parents 50th anniversary party which we celebrated at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in January 2008.

This is a cake that we got a few years ago. I want to say it was October of 2006. It was an 8" or 10" marble cake with buttercream frosting and filling. Incredibly tasty and moist. We had four adults and two children in the party and we were able to eat on that cake for a week.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your beautiful cakes.:goodvibes

Can I ask - what did you order versus what did you get?

It came out beautiful and I love the gold character stamps around the side. You mentioned that it wasn't exactly what you ordered... what was it supposed to be?

I was wondering the same thing because it looks lovely. Maybe it didn't taste very good? :confused3

Hi Jeff. Yup 48 hours is good to call and confirm that the cake is being prepared and will be ready as ordered, but I would call the cake hotline and ask to be put through to private dining of the resort you are ordering from and ask to speak to the pastry chef or the person in charge of cake orders. I believe it's Marilyn at Yacht and Beach club, for example. Order the cake and confirm through this person, so you've got the one contact and there's no confusion with your order from one person to the next.

I'm going in a few weeks with a couple of my cousins for an all girls trip:dance3:, kids and DH's are staying home:cool1:. I'm staying at AKV and thinking of ordering a cake to celebrate this trip (our first one together in forever!) and to welcome them as my guest for the first time to AKV.

I plan on the same course of action above!
Good luck and enjoy your celebration and vacation!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes: Can I order a cake to be delivered or made at Tuto Itallia? My DD is turning 13 on our trip in Dec. and we are having dinner at a restaurant of her choice on that day, so I'd like to get her a cake. She loves Tira Misu, and they serve that there, so I suspect that is why she chose that as her Birthday Restaurant. I'd like to have a cake made with Tira Misu flavor or something special made for her. I think turning a teenager is a big deal and this is a good kid. She makes good grades, is in the SCA and a cheerleader. She says she doesn't us to spend our $$ on her, but I'd still like to surprise her. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks for any help.

Any one?

Hello,

I will be placing an order for a cake for DD's 4th birthday next September. At this point, I am not exactly sure where we will be eating but we are planning to be in MK for that day, so somewhere there--perhaps Tony's or maybe we will head over to the GF Cafe. I will need a cake that will serve 11 people and I would like it to be decorated. I am working on putting together the extraneous expenses in the budget and I am trying to get a good judge on how much I should put down. What do you all think? Keeping in mind this is for a 4 year old girl, it does not need to be super fancy, but I want it still look pretty and taste good!

TIA for your help.

The cake was $71 plus tax and tip. I started the process by calling the cake hotline, but when I told them I wanted a customized anniversary cake, they referred me directly to the woman who handles special orders for the GF. I did all of the ordering and confirmed it through her line.

I agree that the cake was amazing, and I am trying to love it even thought it was not exactly what I wanted. They got everything exactly right except the colors. I had asked for the flowers and butterflies to be done in different pastel colors. My parents had a funky rainbow wedding in the 70s where each bridesmaid wore a different pastel dress..etc. I explained that to the special order person four days before. She said it would not be a problem. I'm not sure if pastel "colors" on the order form turned into pastel "color" and the decorator just decided to go with yellow to match the gold?? My parents did not know that it was incorrect, and they loved the cake anyway. I keep looking at the pictures of them with the cake, and trying not be annoyed that for a $71 cake they didn't get the color of the decorations correct.

The cake itself tasted pretty good. It was very humid the night we received it, and it had been refrigerated. That made the cake sort of wet and a little soggy that evening, but the frosting and the filling were very good. We put in in the refrigerator and the next day it actually tasted better when it was chilled and not so melted.

I think the whole process of ordering the cake was disappointing because when you order something for your celebration you expect to receive the same level of hospitality and enthusiasm with your order as you do in all other aspects of the Disney experience. It's not anything like calling your local bakery and having a friendly person talk with you about your options. You really have to put in a lot of effort to get what you want. I'm actually sort of surprised that they got the stamps in the "wave" and the Donald and Tinkerbell correct. Those were two things that I was originally told were not possible, but I insisted I wanted. There just seems to be a disconnect between the person taking the orders and what the chefs can and/or are willing to do. I'll leave it at that and wish everyone else a magical cake ordering experience! :)

Just for info in case of use to anyone thinking about ordering a cake. I was slightly worried that after reading this thread that the process was goping to be complicated.

Have to say that I called the hotline this afternoon, and within exactly 5 minutes I had ordered a 8" custom cake, with a personalised inscription, to be delivered to our celebration dinner at Ohana next week. Total of $32.

The lady simply told me what was available for the number in my party, she took my reservation number, my name, a phone contact and details about where we were staying. She told me what it would look like, and told me that the total would be added to the meal bill.

It was very, very simple to arrange. Almost too simple - but I will call again on the day to Ohana to check they have it in hand

Now, I understand that I going to get a basic cake, and that I didn't have any special requests. However, we only need a simple cake, so I don't have amazing expectations, and $32 for a personalise cake is fine by me.

Yes, you can order a cake to be delivered there, but it will be a very basic chocolate or vanilla cake with whipped cream frosting. Epcot does not seem to have the ability to do fancy cakes, or even buttercream frosting... :confused3

Most important question - we love buttercream icing - the totally sickening sweet kind - the sweeter the better! So, will I find that at Disney? Any bakery over another with great buttercream icing?

There's only 6 of us - dont' want to have tons of extra to lug around at a park later, but a little extra is fine - and we are big cake eaters so who knows, perhaps won't have much extra. What size would we want for a custom cake?

Our two options restaurant-wise would be getting a cake for our 1900 Park Fare dinner - or Garden Grill - can we get a custom cake for there?
Anyone know if they do a Cinderella/Prince Charming cake at 1900 Park Fare?

I love sickeningly sweet buttercream icing too! :rotfl: The only way to get that kind of frosting at Disney is to buy the pre-made 6-inch celebration cakes they sell at the food courts and keep on hand for people to order at the podium of most restaurants. The buttercream they put on their custom bakery cakes is more... restrained, shall we say, but still sweet! It's not the kind you get from snooty bakeries that tastes more like butter than sugar, so don't worry... :teeth:

But definitely don't order your cake for Garden Grill - as noted above, Epcot seems to only do whipped cream frosting for their cakes. The Grand Floridian can hook you up with a Cinderella/Prince Charming cake for 1900 Park Fare.

I think the 6 of you could get away with a 6-inch cake. We had six people and a 6-inch cake at our anniversary party and there was still more than half of the cake leftover.
