Pat doesn't make the cakes, she just takes the orders. The cakes are made by the bakery staff, NOT chefs, by any stretch of the imagination either.
The cakes are made and then frozen solid. They are then cut and filled and crumb coated and put in the cooler. The following day they are either decorated with buttercream or fondant depending on the order. Cakes are usually completed 1-3 days in advance.

My point was that I had ordered a cake from Pat that was very different than what I recieved. My DH is allergic to milk chocolate so I ordered a white chocolate ganache cake with red "sparkled" roses. It came with milk chocolate. I'm aware of how they make the cakes and the time frame. That's no excuse for a slimey white choco slipper or one pitiful collapsed white rose made of frosting. And absolutely no excuse to put milk chocolate in the ganache. After speaking with her, she refuses to do anything about it and charging me $95 for a cake that went in the trash because they couldn't follow an order form just ticks me off to no end. Yes, I hold Pat 100% responsible for this.

I am trying to make my way through this tread but in mean time does anyone have any pictures of a Toy Story themed cake? We are going in December and I would love to order a TS cake but am looking for ideas as well. Thanks :santa:

I posted a Buzz Lightyear cake about 4 pages back. It's from 1900 Park fare and we loved it! HTH! Thanks! April

The sugar flowers are ordered and come in from China. They are not made at the GF.

I find that extremely hard to believe, but even if that is true, there is no reason for Disney to be serving frozen cakes!! If they don't even have to make the flowers, all they need to do is frost the cake and place the pre-made flowers on it!

Where is the miscomminucation coming from? Why are cakes being ordered with Strawberries and custard filling and coming out with only custard? Why are cakes being ordered with a white chocolate castle, and coming out with painted images?? For $100 a cake...it had better be exactly what i ordered.....i may not make a screaming scene...but you can be sure i'm not paying for someone else's mistake.

I completely understand. I would have been upset as well.

As far as the flowers go, it is very labor intensive to make gum paste or sugar flowers so they are machine made and shipped from China at a real cost savings.
Once in a while there will be roses made from modelling chocolate on the ganache cakes. And the 6' birthday cakes have buttercream roses that are made when the cakes are iced.
As a rule, the cakes are made several days in advanced in HUGE batches. They are cooled and then put in the freezer until that size is needed. (this is for the most part standard procedure in many bakeries.) The Escape cakes are all done on Sat and Sundays as they must all be completed by Monday mornings. If the wedding is on Monday that week, your cake will be done by Sun night. if your wedding is on Thursday that week, your cake will also be done by that same Sunday night. It is what it is.

We celebrated DS Birthday during our trip Sept.9th-18th. Maddox had 2 cakes...one at Chef Mickey's and one at 1900 Park Fare. I called the Contemporary 2 months in adavance and asked them if they could make the hand-piped Mickey Head cake like the one that they make at the Grand Floridian and they said it would be no problem! I spoke to a super nice lady named Eadie who spoke to Brian the chef. It turned out wonderful!! It was so cute and tasted great!! The cost was 48.00

The Buzz Lightyear cake was wonderful too but wayyyy too big for just 3 people. It was a 10 inch cake and was huge! It was so good; it was white cake on the inside, frosted in buttercream with fondant accents; cost was 109.00

This is what I want for my son. We are celebrating his birthday at Chef Mickey's. Do you think this is too much cake for 5 adults and 2 children? We leave the next day, so we won't be able to store it for later.

That's a cute cake. (Usually the face is pinky peach color though) Brian did a good job on that as usual. (recognize that handwriting :) ) You will have a lot of cake left over unless everyone is a big eater!!

My DH and I renewed our Wedding Vows in Stowe Vermont this weekend here is a pic of our cake. American and English Flag Mickey.

I had originally called PD at the CR a month ago, and was given Jessi's email addy. Emailed her, and waited..waited..and waited some more but never heard back. I even verified her address, so I waited some more and figured I'd start calling around now if I hadn't heard back since our cake is for (early) December.

Well, I received a call from Marie on Thursday asking if I had emailed because she was missing a lot of information on my form. I told her yes I had, and even read the address back to her. Apparently, they had a lot of technical difficulties when they were switching email addresses around that time, so mine was lost.

She gave me the new email address, and I emailed that same day. I heard back from Brian, and we're going with a Mickey's Christmas Carol theme. The picture that he comes up with will be on a standing piece of white chocolate. Everything is still in the works, but I wanted to brag about how great all of these CMs have been!!!

I'm waiting to hear back from him to finalize everything. I've asked what other decor ideas he has for around the stand-up, and cake types. I'm super excited about this!! :yay::yay:

Marie is the CM I spoke to yesterday! What a nice lady!!! She was very helpful!!! I ordered a cake for our DIS vacation.....6 ladies at BLT!!!

I thought there was some sort of Christmas theme I had seen before!! That sounds great! Maybe I'll order one for our family vacation. But my DSIL will be celebrating a birthday too. Decisions, decisions!!! I was thinking of Cinderella's slipper for her. But the other one would be for the family. hmmmm, time to think again! :rotfl:

I want to order a mickey head cake for my MIL and FIL celebrating their anniversary. We'll be at chef mickeys for brunch on christmas day. The ressie is in MIL's name but I don't want her to know about the cake. I want it to be a suprise. Is it possible to pay for it in advance or seperately instead of it being put on the ticket since the adr is in her name and the ticket will go to her? And how far in advance do I need to make the order? Thanks!

When I posted about everyone being so accepting of incorrect orders, I certainly wasn't implying in any way that anyone should "make a scene". I was simply curious why so many people comment on these expensive cakes not being right but it being fine. We didn't "make a scene" over our cake being inedible, but we certainly did make Disney aware of our dissatisfaction. I personally think it's disgraceful to charge what they do and have it taste terrible (or have incorrect fillings, or cracked fondant, or what-have-you).
After reading and researching I went into the process fully aware that it would quite possible be delivered an expensive cake that was hideous and inedible. I was prepared for the worst but hoped for the best. Luckily the cake we received was perfect and quite reasonably priced.

I'm not saying that Disney should not do a better job, but unfortunately that's just the way it is. By being at Disney, we are captives and have to work within their system. That said, I still would be extremely upset if I had to throw a cake away and was still charged for it. That is NOT OK, and I would def. talk to management about it!

Yay! I just ordered DS's Mickey-head birthday cake. I talked to Carolyn, and I asked for the icing to be piped--not all ganache as I've seen in the bakery. She said Brian does them the same way every time, so if I saw a piped Mickey head online, that is what I will get! The cost was the same as the pp's, so I'm pretty confident that I'm getting the same thing.

We have an early flight out on the 23rd, but maybe we can cut some slices of cake and put them in Gladware containers to go in our carry-on so we can take some cake home!

Can anyone tell me if you can request a sugar free cake or a low sugar cake? Even a cake made with something like Splenda would be great. I'm ordering it for my Dad's birthday and he's a diabetic so I really don't want to put him in a diabetic coma!

Also, can anyone tell me what places I can pick up a cake and take it back to my room? They're staying at Pop and I know no one delivers there. I am aware that you can buy cakes there and that's an option but you know, I might want to get crazy with it! It is Disney after all!

Just asking again!

I had my heart set on that Haunted Mansion cake - my favorite ride since my first visit to WDW at 5 years old - but I've been unable to get Chef Mickey's or California Grill ADRs during our thrown-together last-minute Thanksgiving trip. DH says The Wave's menu is too boring to waste time with (and I agree), so I am trying to figure out alternatives.

Has anyone obtained a similar cake at GF? Do you think if I emailed a pic to Pat, it could be replicated?

I could also order the cake in room at the YC. I guess the same question above applies.

My other idea is to make an ADR for The Wave and just order a couple appetizers only to obtain the cake. I am feel ambivalent about this. ADRs are hard to come by and I hate to take a spot when not eating a full meal. Besides, we are really booked and I'd have to find a place to squeeze it in which might mean butting into the rules about how far apart ADRs need to be not to be automatically canceled.

Anyone have any other ideas? I will still keep trying to get into those restaurants. The 45-day deadline is coming up and CG requires a credit card guarantee so I am hopeful that I will snag something. I have never been so enamored by a cake - those wallpaper eyes around the edge makes me swoon. :goodvibes

Had a nice conversation with a very sweet, kind CM at Cali Grill about a dessert other than a cake. For those interested, they offer a pretty neat chocolate display dessert if you want something different. It wasn't what I had in mind but I thought someone else might be interested for future planning. Cost was $45 , only available at CG, and if/when I get ambitious I'll try to upload the photo.

Here are pictures of the cake that I ordered through the Boardwalk Bakery for my husband and sons B-days.

Sorry to disagree, but this is quite incorrect.

Custom birthday cakes are freshly filled 2 days before they are served, and then chilled, not frozen. They are then finished either one day before the event, or finished the morning of the event.

The same is true of the Escape and custom wedding cakes. If your reception is on Saturday, the cake is filled on Thursday, chilled overnight (not frozen) then finished on Friday.

I would call CR private dining's cake people and ask about having your Haunted Mansion cake delivered to Contempo Cafe and picking it up there. I've heard of people picking up Grand Floridian Bakery cakes at the counter-service restaurant Gasparilla Grill - perhaps the same thing could be done at the Contemporary. :thumbsup2
