blues2411, did you ask for that white chocolate slipper? is it included in the theme package price?

pictures?

No I didn't asked for anything except the cake flavor, filling flavor, blue icing and a Cinderella Theme. That's it. I gotta get the pics on here. I am working 95.50 hours next week so I need to find time to fit that in too! :rotfl:

I just ordered a 6" choc cake w/ buttercream icing for dd's 7th b-day. They are delivering it to our room at AKV. It was $32. The nice lady on the phone said asking for decorations would be an extra $30 when I asked if they could do something with pink. She said she'd note it on the cake order and ask the chef if it could be done w/o the extra charge. I told her I didn't think the $30 was worth it for some colored icing (and she agreed - lol!). I'll post pics once we're back.

Epcot doesn't have a bakery so they don't have a way to make a custom cake. That's what I found out when I called to try to order a cake for my birthday at Garden Grill a few weeks ago.

You could possible try the Boardwalk, but you'll have to go there to pick it up.

Thanks so much for your reply...you know, we're staying at the Swan & Dolphin, I guess it wouldn't be that big a deal to grab the cake before we go to dinner. Do they let you bring it in? Bag check would be interesting. :)

My group is also celebrating a b-day at whispering canyon cafe, my son's first birthday. I was thinking of ordering a cake, but now I am wondering about something, my sister and I are going to be at the GF hotel that day to do a spa day and tea and I was wondering what are my chances of just finding something cute and small from the bakery that I could just take over to WCC for him to dig into? Like a really cute mickey cupcake or something like that? Does anybody have any pics of the offerings at the bakery there?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, the Grand Floridian Bakery does not have a storefront. You would need to be staying or dining there and pre-order something for delivery. BoardWalk Bakery has some cute things, though! :thumbsup2

thanks for the reply Lurkyloo, how simple is it to get to the boardwalk from the GF hotel (i've never been to either)? We may have some time after our spa treatment and before dinner, but I am not sure how much time... If its really easy to get there, I may do that, otherwise I guess I will see if they can bring ds out a cupcake from the restaurant.
Thanks again!!

phew, just looked at the map and those two resorts are not close together at all :rotfl2:
are there any other store front bakeries on the monorail line?

I read through this thread about 3 times in the run up to our recent trip. Made life a little easier for me choosing cake for my husbands birthday! Just as well, as Disney don't seem to make it overly easy for you to get any info/ideas!!!

I called about 2 days before I left the UK, so say 6 days before I needed the cake. Called the bakery at Grand Floridian and got a bit of a space cadet on the phone! Very nice person, but a space cadet all the same! I asked for a cake that would embaress my husband as much as possible, so the most childish things possible, bright colours etc. She got kind of hung up on the fact he was 40! So a 40 theme is what we got! ;) It didn't really matter the cake was awesome and worth every penny! All the little signs were in white chocolate, and the big 40 was plain chocolate.

It was lemon cake, white chocolate mousse and fondant icing on the outside. I just wanted a plain old cake. Like a victoria sandwich, no whipped cream! My hubby is the least adventurous cake person ever so fondant was pushing the envelope for him! I wanted lemon cake with lemon icing, but that seemed to be too much for the bakers! The choices we had were bewildering for us Scots, mousse in a cake? Thats just wrong!!!! But no lemon!

So here we have the cake! Recieved at Narcoosees, just after the fireworks. Twas good!!!! :)

We didn't eat it then and there, took it back to our room and cut it the next day when we had some friends over to share it :)

Its not easy cutting a big ol cake with one of those wee knifes they put in the studios at Old Key West! It was very very very sweet, sweeter than any cake I've ever had. Nice though. I froze some pieces and vacum sealed them in ziploc vacum bags for home consumption! ;)

The cost I think was $67 :)

I just reread your original post and it hit me - if you're having tea at the Gardenview Tea Room, you could have your cake delivered there! :thumbsup2
Then you could just have them box it up and take it with you when you leave. (Neither of the other monorail resorts have storefront bakeries - in fact, BoardWalk Bakery is the only one on property.)

Since you want something small, the GF's mini castle cake would be perfect. It's a personal-size cake (not enough for 2 people to get more than a few bites of) with a mini white chocolate castle on it, and it comes in chocolate cake/chocolate mousse, vanilla/white chocolate, or cheesecake. I believe it's $25 or $30, and there are pictures of it in this thread... somewhere....:rotfl:

Ok, I'm loving the pictures that I have seen and I have looked/read over half of the pages so please forgive me if this has been asked.

We are having lunch at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in two weeks. We will be celebrating our move to Florida as well as my DD 11th birthday. I have two questions. 1. When I booked lunch, I told them we were celebrating her birthday. I know at some restaurants you receive a free birthday cupcake. Do you receive one here? 2. If not, what are my options in ordering a personal sized cake for her? Do I call the restaurant? The cake hotline?

TIA!

Having a celebration notated on an ADR does not guarantee you anything from any restaurant. It seems to be up to the CMs as to what, if anything, is done. If you definitely want something special for your DD I would suggest you order something. If you don't want something big you can always go with one of the current "Treasure Chest" cakes that most of the restaurants have (I believe the WDW site has the current list). If you want to order a specialized cake for her at WCC call the cake hotline and follow the prompts.

So I spoke with Sally over at CR to book our cake for Cali Grille next Thursday and it just hit me that I havent heard back from her regarding price.

We are getting an 8 inch vanilla cake with strawberries and custard with the ganache frosting. I have asked for a Cinderella and Prince Charming theme and it to be as colorful as possible. It is for our 8th wedding anniversary.

Sally said she was going to call me back but she must have forgotten. Hmmm, Any ideas of how much this will run? Do I call her back or just wing it and see what the price is when we get there. I am thinking no higher than 70 but then if its through the roof I really cant argue it the night of the dinner.

What do people think??? :confused3

Okay I'm curious...how big was that cake?

Here are the pictures of my Ariel Cake with purple icing and sprinkles...the CR Bakery did an absolutely FABULOUS job :cheer2: There was soooooo much detail and it tasted great. My daughter was absolutely thrilled to show off her cake to Ariel. MANY MANY MANY THANKS to Brian and his team for making my daughter's Birthday so magical princess:

What does ganache taste like?

I'm planning on ordering a cake this week, and although I love the look of fondant, we don't care for eating it, plus it adds a lot to the cost.

I think the ganache would make a smooth, pretty surface for the decorations, but I've never had it. Can someone give their opinion on it - sweetness, thickness, flavor, etc?

I was thinking about surprising my family for our trip in Dec with some sort of in-room surprise. I know of wdw florist and have used it before and we have also used the cake service at WL for an in-room mother's day cake but I didn't know if there were special Christmas Cakes that you can request for in-room celebrations?

If anyone knows if Christmas type cake exist please let me know!! and contact into too!!!

TIA

I'm curious about this too!!

These cakes are amazing! You look at one picture & think it was the most awesome cake you've ever seen. Then you look at the next one!!! Amazing!!! :thumbsup2

We had the Mickey Head Cake in June, the ganache tasted like very rich and thick milk chocolate. Kind of like bitting into a bar of chocolate. It was soft and chewey and milky, I loved the taste.

I'm getting an 8" fondant cake from the CR bakery and was quoted $67 so I'd imagine that your cake is probably around the same price range. But having been in that situation where I didn't ask for a price quote (not Disney or cake related), you might want to call Sally back and ask her for your peace of mind :)

You don't eat the fondant - you peel it off and there's buttercream frosting underneath, so it tastes just like eating a regular cake. :thumbsup2

That said, ganache does seem to be cheaper than fondant! :goodvibes
