Beautiful cake. Received oohs and aahs from nearby tables.
My son "designed" the cake. He asked for Minnie in a flower garden with only pink flowers and a ladybug and two butterflies.

While the cake was beautiful, it was really more a work of art than a great dessert. The cake was very dry. The mousse filling was good, though. Still, I was very pleased with the cake :)

I am interested in a Boardwalk themed cake for our anniversary next year. We will be staying at the Boardwalk and we got married at Seabreeze Pointe. Has anyone had anything like this? Is it something they would be able to do? Any ideas on costs or any pics would be awesome. Thank you!!

I need help. I love the cake idea for our Anniversary. It will be 37 years. We have dinner planned at Narcossee's. BUT, it will be only my husband and I. We are eating this on Tues., leaving on Sun, so do have time to finish it off in the room. BUT, have dinning plan, so really don't need more deserts. so what would you do. Maybe I will call Narcossee's and see what I could plan.Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks:confused3

I hate to be a wet blanket, but although you may not want your dessert at Narcossee's that night (get it to go, maybe?) our cake served there really was barely edible. I thought it would be dessert for us for a few days. We did have a slice the next day, but none of us ate more than one or two bites. I ate the mousse out of mine. The kids broke off chunks of poor Minnie (white chocolate) and said it was good.
We weren't on DP, but would have been fine to have the regular desserts on the other days.

ETA: We did get a cake from the Polynesian delivered to Ohana a few years ago (also chocolate cake w/ chocolate mousse) and it was scrumptious. We couldn't eat it all by the end of our trip and it killed me to get rid of it. So, maybe it was just a fluke.

I'm still glad we got the cake. It was really so pretty and fun to see how it turned out. No regrets, but it just wasn't the dessert I anticipated we would eat for a few days.

Does any know how much the white chocolate toppers are? Minnie? Mickey? or Both? Also what about the very thin ones? That seem to have some color to it?

I believe my Minnie topper was $30. I don't know if they painted the gold on or if it comes that way normally.

Kids should be excited.

DD's birthday cake from May 2008.

It took quite a few phone calls and hours to finally connect with someone who understood what I wanted and agree to get the cake made. I was finally able to order the cake through the BW bakery but it was transfered to the CR bakery as it is closer to MK and CRT.

Cake: 10" vanilla with strawberry custard filling, rolled fondant with image transfers on the sides, flowers and plaque were provided, egg topper was provided by us.
Made by: CR bakery
Delivered to: CRT (for breakfast)
Cost: IIFR $95 ($45 for cake, $30 for images, bal is tax and 18% grat)

I had very definate ideas for the cake. I sent drawings of my ideas and pix of the topper, complete with measurements and weight so they made the space sturdy enough to support it. This is the drawing I sent:

This was scrumptious and more than enough for 7 people over two meals. We gave away at least 1/3rd of the cake.
I so fell in love with this cake when I saw it. I called CR bakery today and they new EXACTLY what cake I was talking a about. They had Jessi the chef e-mail me to complete all the little details I wanted ,and it will be delived to CRT breakfast on sept 8th for my Mothers 60th birthday. They were so very helpful. They did however charge me $125 but I didnt care..I luv it! Thank you so much for posting this cake it is going to make my Mother CRY I just know it. I also bought her the Cinderella musical egg to go on top of the cake off the internet. This is my Moms favorite song "a dream is a wish your heart makes" I love this site for all the great ideas you all have!

Ok, so I've got some Christmas ideas thanks to you a few of you (very special thanks to those that PM'd me) and the almighty cake man, Brian.

I think I'm going to go with something from Mickey's Christmas Carol or MVMCP themed. I'll wait to decide once I call.

But, here are my new questions for those that have ordered from any of the Contemporary restaraunts:

1.) Is it more to get a filling than just a regular cake?
2.) What type of filling and/or cake would you rec (combinations, etc...I want to just hear any recs!)

we are home from our fabulous trip which included my oldest daughter's 17th birthday. i opted for a small cake as we were there for 11 days, DDP for 7 and club level. yes i'm sure i gained 8 lbs! anyhow, if you are thinking of a lighter option here is the mini-wedding cake that was made for $25 for her birthday at Boardwalk Bakery.

What are the differences between the capabilities or prices (or anything, I guess!) between the GF bakery and the Contemporary bakery?

I am looking to get a cake made for our 1st Anniversary/Husband's 28th birthday and we have dinner reservations for 1900 PF and Cali Grill. All this time I have been anticipating having a cake made for the 1900 PF reservation, but now I'm thinking otherwise--mainly because the reservation for PF is for 6:45PM and the reservation for CG is for 8:00, and I'm pretty positive that either we won't cut the cake at dinner, or we won't be able to eat it all at once (duh, I guess haha) and will need to bring it back to the hotel (we are staying at Pop).

If we have an early dinner, we may want to go to do other things and won't want to waste time going back to the hotel to put the cake away. Does that make sense?

My main want to have the cake made by the GF bakery was because I was looking for something to be very detailed and 'AWESOME' but upon seeing the quite fantastic HM cake by CakeManBri, I am shifting my thoughts to the Contemporary.

I will be calling both to get an idea of flavors/price/detail within the next 2 weeks, but I figure you guys here might be able to give me a heads up!

Thanks all!

I think you probably can't go wrong with either bakery. The only difference *might* be that only the Grand Floridian offers the extended range of cake flavors and fillings (like red velvet [don't do it!], orange cake, German chocolate filling, etc.].

However, maybe CakeManBri will come along and confirm that CR Bakery can make those too. :cutie:

ok, I've read these threads and still confused-- I would like a 6" cake -but I want it a little "kicked up" a bit for my birthday. By this I mean, love the HM cake CakemanBri made but I am more into the sparkle/princess type. I think I read if you ask firmly (?) they can make one for you. I am thinking of haivng my b-day dinnr at the Wave at the CR. There will be only 2 of us so I really don't want to order a 8 or 10" cake. I have thought about getting the mini wedding cake. Should I call the Contemporary Hotel or the cake line or order a cake the BW bakery- will they deliver it to the CR??? Sorry for many questions!
So, if anyone can help w/ their opinions- greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried the red velvet? I was thinking of ordering a cake with red velvet and cream cheese filling. I would hate to spend a lot of money on this cake and then hate it.

I think the firmly asking may only work at the Grand Floridian - our pal CakeManBri has mentioned several times that the smallest cake you can customize at the Contemporary is an 8-inch.... :confused3

We had red velvet and cream cheese for one tier of our wedding cake. Just one person's opinion, but I found the cake dense but flavorless and the cream cheese filling heavy and flavorless. I had been warned by another bride who had it, but I didn't listen. :rotfl:

Disney seems to do many other flavors well, so I'd skip it and try one of them!

Does anyone know if GF Bakery does Carrot cake? It's my DH's favorite, but I'm too embarrassed to call Pat again (for the third time) to ask her.
