yummm! lets see some more pictures.

OMG!!! I want this now!! DS LOVES the monorail!! Are you getting it delivered to your resort, or to a dinner adr? CAN you get it delivered to a resort ADR???? We got an ADR at Kona for DH's birthday, and I planned on one cake for DH and DS, that would be PERFECT!!! Did you get your choice of fillings or colors?
Ok, and after reading all 10 pages, I am still confused.
Do I order a cake from the place we are eating? (crystal palace)
Do I order it ahead of time(I read 2 weeks, a few days, at podium...)
I am reading the quality of the cake not so good unless its from a bakery, like in GF? DO I have to order now, then go to GF myself to pick up a cake that day? Do they deliver to park restaurants?
Are there other options?
I would like a small cake for ds 1st birthday. I would love a baby mickey or something like that but mainly, I want a great tasting cake(for the costs I am reading here especially).
ETA- I found another cake thread and see a mickey Dome cake- has anyone had it? Size(feeds how many ppl?) and was it good and how can I get it?

thank you for the info, I appreciate you reply-If you are eating at Crystal Palace and want a cake for that meal, you'd call the cake hotline and order one or you could wait till you arrive and get the Sarah Lee ones that are available at the podium.
You cannot order a cake at GF and pick it up and they do not deliver. If you want a cake from the GF, you have to eat there.
Most Deluxe resorts have their own bakery for their guests. You can't go there and pick one up.
The only bakery you can pick up a cake from is the Boardwalk Bakery or the Magic Kingdom Main Street Bakery.
I just tried to read all the treads I could find about cakes.
I still feel so clueless! Our trip is May 2 to May 9th. We are celebrating our childrens bdays. It is there first time going to WDW. Our son is going to be 7 and our daughter is going to be 2. I wanted to do 1 cake for both of them. Any ideas? nothing too crazy its only 4 of us.
I'm going to hopefully be ordering a custom "10 cake for our lunch at Crystal Palace in a few days and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions. It's my 3 nephews first trip and I wanted something with an edible image that said Welcome to Disney. But I'm not sure which character or colors, etc. If anyone can give me some recommendations that would be great and if someone posted some pics of welcome cakes even better.
Now, onto some questions. How much are the edible images? And since there's 7 of us I'm pretty sure they'll be left over cake, can the restaurant hold the cake left for us until we leave later that night?

thank you for the info, I appreciate you reply-
So all of these nicer looking cakes I see pictures of I cant get, right? The Sarah Lee cake is the plain with writing on top? If I order one from CP ahead, will it still be the same basic sarah lee? Can I bring one myself into CP from Main street bakery?
I dont want to get all excited for his first birthday cake in WDW and get a basic frozen cake with his name on it,kwim?
We did the slipper dessert at breakfast at CRT this past November...it was wonderful! It was the perfect taste of sweetness after our breakfast (if that makes sense?). It was my daughter's 5th birthday and it was the perfect way to celebrate...a trip to BBB and then breakfast at CRT! In fact all 5 of us shared the dessert (not that it's huge, but it certainly hit the spot after a big breakfast). Here's some pics:
