Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

I just made ADR's for LeCellier on June 1. It will be our 18th anniversary, and I'd like to have a cake ordered. Do they just do the standard cakes there or can you order one of these speciality jobs for that resturant? The other option is to have it delivered to the hotel, but I don't know if anyone will do that for ASMu

I had the same problem at first, when I called GF they said that I had to have a 10" cake to have the strawberries,, but when I eventually got through to Linda she told me that I could get it in an 8" and she changed my order for me. I definately recommend keep trying to get Linda, she's great.
As for the yummy factor,,, we are still dreaming about the taste of that cake,,, oh I wish they did cakes like it here in the UK. Whenever I go to Disney again, I'm definitely getting that cake again, who cares if we don't have a celebration next time

For things like the slipper dessert and the mini castle cake, can you pick what kind of chocolate they mold the slipper/castle in?

My partner and I are going to be in the World in a little more than 3 weeks and we have a res for tea at the GF on day 3. Since it's been a bit of a taxing year (he got a new job that required us to move 2000+ miles away from where we'd been for the last 10 years), I thought it would be neat if I ordered some sort of special surprise for us, maybe a mini-cake or slipper with a message like "Happy vacation Liz & JP". ixiedust: The problem: Neither he nor I like white chocolate. He's indifferent, and I can't stand the stuff. I saw the picture of the dark (or maybe milk) slipper above, but that was CRT and not GF(not sure if that makes a difference), and earlier in the thread someone said you could get the cake with chocolate cake & chocolate buttercream. If it's possible to get a chocolate cake with a dark chocolate castle, it would be totally worth the money, but not so much if the castle is basically inedible for us.

(No offense to those who like white chocolate. It's just far too sweet for me.)

Okay, so I was reading back in this thread and saw someone say Wilderness Lodge doesn't do the more specialized cakes. That stinks since I wanted to get my birthday cake in May there and just have it in my room. So, I need some advice:

Crystal Palace is where I've having my birthday dinner. Do they do specialized cakes? I was thinking either a castle theme or a Wilderness Lodge theme (so much for that idea!). If they don't, what should I do about a cake? I'm just rather bummed about WL not doing anything other than flowers and such.

If anyone can give me some helpful suggestions as to what to do, it'd be much appreciated.

I am in the same boat as you. I was hoping to get a cake at WL but they seem so bland. I am not sure what I am going to do now.

This is what I know.

Since they introduced the slipper, it has been white chocolate. They didn't give a choice. Since about December 07, I've noticed that suddenly the slipper at CRT is dark chocolate. GF is still white chocolate. I would call the GF and see if they can get their hands on the dark chocolate slipper. It can't hurt.

Regarding the mini wedding cake (aka mini castle cake). I've never seen the castle in dark chocolate. They make the cake and the castles in bulk. The only inside flavors I've heard you can choose from are: chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse, yellow cake with white chocolate mousse and cheesecake....but the outside has always been vanilla (white) buttercream.

Again, you can call and ask them what they can do. You never know.

Sorry to hear you had a hard time with the cake. We are celebrating 2 Bdays at AKL and want to order a cake to be sent to the room. Do you know or does anyone else know where to look at their (Jiko, Boma's) selections on line (if such a place exists). Also, can anyone confirm that GF does not deliver to AKL? (sorry if this was already answered but I didn't want to have to look through all 100 plus pages on this thread)

DH will be turning 40 in April and our Disney trip is to celebrate it. I would like to order him a cake while we are there. I don't want to go all out, but I definitely want a nice cake.

I haven't decided on a theme but last night I did think Peter Pan would be cute since DH doesn't want to ever grow up.

I saw the post for the princess cake done by Chef Mickey's that was really cute. Not sure if they could do something like that with Peter Pan on top. It was the edible screen print.

So my question is where would you recommend getting a cake from? DH loves chocolate so I've definitely thought about chocolate with either a strawberry or raspberry filling. He also loves mocha/coffee flavor.

All info is greatly appreciated.

Don't shoot me but .... Anybody ever make their own cake while they were staying? We do have a full kitchen in our room. I know it wouldn't be as pretty but way less money! Anybody know if there are cake pans in the kitchen at AKL? just a thought

We ordered my FIL a 10" birthday cake from WCC and while I was a little disappointed that it wasn't decorated to the hilt it was by far one of the best cakes I have had in a long long time!!! And I'd definately order another cake from them!

We orderd a vanilla/chocolate marble cake with buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. It was sweet but not rot your teeth sweet if that makes sense. We forgot to get a picture of it before we cut into it but it was a pretty cake. It had roses on it that were probably edible but my DS tried one and he said it tasted "gross".

Four adults and two kids ate on it the first night and we had enough to take home a few days later and eat on for a few more nights too.

I called the GF bakery this afternoon. The nice lady that answered the phone checked with her supervisor, and they will NOT make the chocolate castle or slipper in anything other than white chocolate. She said that she'd pass the suggestion on to management, and if they got enough requests for dark chocolate, they might start offering it. So if you want dark chocolate, start asking, and maybe we'll get it one day.

In the meantime, I need to figure out something else small and special to do for this trip. Is there anywhere y'all would suggest to start looking for ideas?

Does AKL only still do Zebra Stripped Cakes or do they do others now? I wanna get a personalized surprise 4th anniversary cake for DH. I asked this before, but have decided I wanna have the cake to be sent to the room while we are at dinner of the night we arrive. I got the reply about GF sending cakes to AKL, but last I heard they dont do this anymore.

Has anyone ever seen a dalmation cake? I just ordered one for dd's 8th birthday. She wants chocolate cake....which I ordered, but the person taking the order told me the chocolate cake comes with chocolate frosting. Will the dalamations show up. DD loves dalmations....this cake will be one of the highlights of the trip for her....I just want to make sure it will be nice. Thanks!

they also have the zebra cake in a 6 inch but I don't know the price - sorry
and I think she said the mickey head was available too but I didn't inquire about that as we don't want the ganash (sp?)

• you can get chocolate, vanilla, or mable and standard buttercream icing or chocolate buttercream icing.
• they don't do any fancy designs on their cakes but you can bring your own and they will put it on the cake if you like~ they are located next to BOMA
• they deliver to AKL rooms and restaurants

I forgot to ask about adding an inscription to the cakes (e.g., Happy Birthday Joe, Happy Anniversary Dick and Jane). BUT the OP stated that on other cakes only 2 names can be inscribed on an individual cake.

The OP stated that There is also the Mickey Mouse (Head) Cake. Mickey Mouse Cake $45 plus tax. NOTE: Inscriptions are NOT available on the Mickey Cake.

She said that they prefer to not take orders more than 2 weeks in advance but to give them at least 48 hours notice

Just disappointed because my whole life I've liked decorated cakes (i.e. more than just flowers). At least I know though if I go this route, I'll get a yummy cake hopefully. I was dissapointed to find out that the bakery at AKL does not put designs on cakes! They said we could bring our own and they could put it on the cake. but doesn't that kind of go agaist the magical spirit that Disney is supposed to have?
You are supposed to expect more of them ~ they're Disney!
Come on Disney hire some more cake decorators or at least buy some fancy chocolate and candy decorations to put on your cakes at all of your locations!!!!!

I ordered a Zebra striped cake for the night we eat at Boma, to thank my parents for taking us (me, dh, dd, sister and sister's friend). It came to $35...but I cannot remember for the life of me what all the flavoring was. LOL
