Our anniversary cake from the Poly was totally lovely. I stressed about it but DH worked with a lovely lady there who really pulled some magical strings. We wanted a tropical theme ... they ended up making an edible lei on top of the cake with larger edible flowers. (One of the flowers had a petal broken off during delivery which I stuck back on , just wanted to mention it because it's visible in the photos).

It was yellow cake with strawberries and custard filling, chocolate buttercream on top then a layer of ganache. Delicious tasting too.

Was this cake delivered to your room??? I am trying to have a special cake delivered to the room for my mom and I on our first night. Were you given cake options, or did you already know what you wanted when you called in?

Beautiful cake by the way!!!! That ganache looks AMAZINGLY good :goodvibes

Yes, it was delivered to our room. We knew what we wanted, basically the same as last years (from BW Bakery) in terms of flavors. The ganache and decorations were a special request at the Poly but the other flavors were standard offerings.

DH & I will be celebrating our 10th Anniv at POR in Dec., and I was hoping to get a special cake delivered to our room. I was told (I can't remember by who but I think I called the cake hotline) that I had to call the cake chef at POR. The chef there was very nice but said I only had a choice of the "basic" $12 cake with whipped cream icing or a choc/choc buttercream icing or van/vanilla icing, or they could arrange for the choc. covered "tuxedo" strawberries to be delivered to the room. There have been so many wonderful cakes that I've seen on the cake thread (like with the ganache and fruit fillings) that I'm kinda disappointed now. Any suggestions that anyone knows of or am I really limited to those particular cake options due to the resort I'm staying in? Of the 3 choices, I'd definitely pick the choc covered strawberries as I know they are delicious but just not what I really wanted.

That is about the cake I would like to order from the POLY.
May I ask what the cost was, and more specifically, how much (more) the lei costed?

What exactly is ganache? And did it also involve an extra cost?

Sorry for all these questions

I have my mind set up on a cake, thought about ordering one being served at the Luau. But now that I see cakes can be delivered to all resorts, I might just have one delivered to the AS Mu, so that we are not stuck with the cake at the MK after the Luau.

Anyone have a picture of a birthday cake ordered for the Wilderness Lodge?
We will be eating there for DH's Birthday Day.
Thanks

You wouldn't be able to get this cake delivered to ASMU ... I wasn't sure if that is what you are asking. The Poly has very limited bakery service as we found out during the process of getting this cake so I am 100% positive that one of the larger bakeries on-site would be responsible for a cake at ASMU.

Anyway, ganache is the layer of dark chocolate over the top of the buttercream. The cake was $52 (the standard $40 plus tax and gratuity), but, honestly, it was a first for the Poly bakery, kind of an experiment because my DH was so (nicely) persistent and I think it took a lot of man hours. My point here is that I would not hold them to that price, it could (probably should) cost more if they did it again. Does that make sense?

If you decide you definitely want to order a cake for your Luau, shoot me a PM and I can tell you who to talk to. I don't want this lady bombarded like poor Linda at the GF is so I won't publicly post the info.

Thank you for the information!

I know the Poly doesn't make the cakes to be delivered to AS Mu (if they even deliver custom cakes there).
I would either order at the Poly for one at the Luau, or order through the cake hotline for one at AS Mu (I think it's the Boardwalk bakery that makes those).

As said before, my mom's "big dream" is going to Hawaii, the Poly and the Luau is probably the closest she will get to there, so I want her to have an exotic Hawaii experience. This means however that we will be stuk with that cake during EMH at MK :) Especially since we'll only be two, so lots of leftovers, lol.
But I LOVE the lei, and that Poly-feeling your cake has. It would be perfect, saying something like "Aloha Adrienne" ...

Forget AS Mu, I want a Poly cake :teeth: !!

I called the cake line and didn't hear them list Caribean Beach Resort. Did I miss it? I was hoping to have it delivered there so we didn't have to mess with carting it around. We have ADR at Chef Mickeys but wanted to catch Spectro and stay out late

I am planning on ordering a cake for my Daughter's birthday. However we will be with a large group (15) and one has many food allergies. Has anyone ever tried to order a cake and work around food alleries? How hard was it? Any info you can give me on this would be helpful. The food allergies are soy and peanut

Now, I have a really big question for all of the cake experts here on the Dis. I need a couple of cakes for our trip next year. But, my question to you is this:

I would like a custom cake made with chocolate cake with layers of bananas and strawberries as well as whipped cream. And frosted with whipped cream with chocolate shavings on the side of the cake.
This is a cake that I buy in New York for every birthday my children have. It's called the chocolate strawberry banana shortcake.

So does anyone think that this can be done? And if it could be done where would I be able to have it done?

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

IF it's doable, IMHO, your best bet is to have it at the GF. They do all the wedding cakes for WDW so I'm sure they could do it it's just a matter of if they will be willing to do it.

Just call and ask.

I have had to call and leave a message 2 times for Linda at GF trying to place my cake order. Anyone have any idea how long it normally takes for her to get back to you? :upsidedow

Here are the 2 cakes we had made while at WDW this trip (9/15-9/22)

This one is from the Boardwalk Bakery. We were staying at Pop and when we checked in I told them I had a cake that needed to be picked up from the Boardwalk Bakery and they agreed to send someone to pick it up for me and leave it in our room or if our room wasn't ready to store it in the fridge until the room was ready.

It was a nice cake. We didn't end up eating it since we had too much stuff to eat. We shared it with our friends mostly. $75.00

Then this one was for after our vow renewal. We had it at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It was fantastic. I just loved this one. I would definately get another from the GF !! $ 85.00

This had strawberry mousse filling.

CatrinaBeach your cake from GF is it White cake with buttercream frosting and vanilla mouse with fresh strawberries in it? Or was it custard? I noticed dark spots on the cake and couldn't tell if maybe it was big pieces of strawberries or if the cake was mable?

Both of your cakes are as cute as can be.

Do you think they can do a cake filling half and half like make half of the cake filled with buttercream and the other half with strawberry mouse?
