Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

Is this a common problem with 6" cakes? My fiancee and I are getting married soon and we were going to order a small wedding cake (not a multi-tier) to eat at Jiko's the night of our marriage. Is there a way to avoid the same problem?

I had read too many conflicting posts on here about the 6inch cakes, so I didn't even bother with one. We had an 8 inch custom cake between the 2 of us last week at Narcoossees and it turned out awesome!

Sorry you had such a bad experience!

You can't customize a 6" cake. We had 7 of us eating at the YC a few weeks ago. I needed a smallish cake for my step-granddaughters birthday. But I wanted it to be special. I was told that I had to get the 8" cake in order to have it customized. So, that's what I did. The cake was very good. Chocolate, raspberry mousse filling, buttercream frosting with a Nemo themed topper.
The 6" cakes are pretty much premade cakes, that have been frozen...at least that's what I've been told.

I am looking for something for DH for being such a terriffic guy!:lovestruc He works 6 days a week so I can stay home with our Badookie (16months) and also is taking us on our second trip this year!!!!

I wanted something small like the glass slipper dessert but for a man.Any ideas or has anyone done anything like this? Please post pictures of dessert or cake you got. TIA you guys are super duper!!!!:goodvibes

I absolutely know what you mean! DH works his reg 9-5 mon-Fri but is ALWAYS on call. He works and deals with computers and back ups and...well... I couldn't tell ya much more than that! :) I stay home with our 2.5 and 3.5 year old. Also, we bought a house very close to his work, so he gets to come home for lunch and is home within 2 mins of being 'off'. (he's never really off)

This is what I have set up thus far... Our first official full day we are all headed to Epcot. I have arranged a diver at Coral Reef. he will be diving down with a banner that says Merry Christmas Daddy Love Brayden and Keyra. Then the menu will be plastered in family pictures. We also just got some pictures taken in our Christmas gear on our beach (well, we have a cottage...and it's the beach there). He doesn't know about these, it's a surprise.

Now I am thinking I might get a cake. I just thought what a great way to kick off our family vacation with a big thank you to dh for working so hard. :) So I just might get him a cake now too. I didn't think he was huge cake fan. But I asked him last week what his favorite cake is. he said he would love some really rich chocolate cake. lol Not sure if that was meant for the night I asked him, but that is what he is getting! lol

AS far as what kind of cake... DH would give me a weird look if i got him a glass slipper. It wouldn't be 'manly'. This coming from my very sentimental dh who cries at movies. :confused3 :rolleyes1 There are a lot of pictures of cakes here. It would depend on where he would be getting it. Such as Coral Reef won't have the same cakes as the Boardwalk Bakery and such. So determine if you wanted to do a cake at a restaurant, or delivered to your room. And then just go through these pages and see what is available. Then make your call. I think you can email a picture if you just have to have it.

Oh! Also, there is the Cinderella's Castle. And the cutest tuxedo strawberries.

Hope my longwinded msg helps. :rotfl:

It Does thank you. I would never get the Glass slipper. I am thinking I might do an 8 inch cake at 1900 PF or I wonder if they do strawberries? We will be meeting Disbuddies that night so they can have some! I just wonder what to put on it. He loves tropical theme (Parrothead) Maybe they will do something like that. Hmmmm I will have to think about it!

We will be celebrating anniversary 9/27 and I have thought about cakes-we have Brown Derby for dinner at 5pm. I thought another option would be to order the Edible Arrangements Disney fruits. They have the choc strawberries and other fruits we could use for breakfast, too.
Has anyone tried them before?

Is there anything special you can do at the Beach Club and have it delivered to the room?

Or would you get something from the Boardwalk Bakery? Can I call the Boardwalk and have them make something for pick-up?

For the Beach Club just call In room dining or the cake hotline and order a cake - it will vary in flavors and price depending what you are looking for and it can be delivered to your room (I think you have to be there) or to a restaurant within the resort if you are dining at one.

They have incredible pastry chefs at the Yacht & Beach!:thumbsup2

How far ahead is safe to order the cakes? I realize too far ahead it may get lost. . .so what is the best timing?

You can't order it more than a month out, and (I think) no later than 48 hours beforehand.

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know if Chef Mickey's gives anything special? My niece got a cupcake from Ohana when we went for her birthday.

I´ve never been there for a birthday, but I think most if not all the restaurants have cupcakes. Some restaurants will also give you an autographed card from one of the characters. But there are no guarantees so if you want to be sure that the birthday girl recieves something special, make sure to order it yourself :thumbsup2

The cake hotline says they only need 48 hours notice but that is really only for the 6 inch (frozen) cakes.

If you want a custom cake, I'd call a week before, maybe 2 weeks but no more. They have a higher risk of loosing your order if you order it too early.

If you insist on ordering it more than 2 weeks out be sure to call and confirm at a week before.

Actually you can. My cake has been on order for months! (note it is an allergy cake)

Interesting I called and asked several places for my upcoming trip (GF, AKL, Contemporary) and none of them would take my order more than a month out. :confused3

Has anyone ordered (and received) anything other than a plain cake from the Wilderness Lodge Bakery? It looks like most cakes in this thread from WL are round with a couple of roses and a name. Has anyone ordered a Mickey shaped cake from WL?

Also, can a Mickey shaped cake be turned into Minnie?

I can't wait to hear what the new cake options will be for 2009 with the new Celebration Promotion announcement. We were already planning to spend my DD's 6th birthday in the parks and this is icing on the cake. ;)
