Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

Never mind, I just went back and checked the first page....my eyes were tricking me....should be wearing my glasses I guess!:confused3

We got back Aug. 22nd, but with school starting I am just now able to get the pictures downloaded. We had DS birthday dinner at Ohana's on the 10th.
He wanted either a Wall-E cake or Meet the Robinsons cake. Since Disney can not do Pixar I had them do a plain cake with chocolate mickey balloons. I brought a small Wall-E figure to put on the cake.
The cake was marble, white chocolate cream in between the cake and chocolate icing. Everyone (except DH) loved the cake. It was very fresh and not too sweet. DH did not like it because he said that the bottom layer of icing tasted like coconut:confused3 ( which he hates).

Linda called me back! I reaffirmed that the mini castle cake only comes with white icing. bummer! Anyway, I ask her about the "Doom dessert". She didn't have a clue and then said "OH, the dome dessert." The lady I placed an order from kept calling it a "doom dessert." :sad2: She explained it to me but I still can't place it. The lady I spoke to first said it was a Mickey chocolate mold and then Linda said No it is disc with mousse and gnach (sp?).

I am gently asking again if anyone has ordered the Dome Dessert? If so please post a pic or tell me what it looks like. TIA :goodvibes

I am not positive if what I am thinking of is it. Maybe someone else knows for sure, but I think someone has posted it on here before--probably the old thread of cakes.

Anyway, if I am thinking correctly, it actually kind of looks like the shape of a Mickey ears hat sitting on a plate. Smaller, of course :)
Just dark chocolate ganache over the mousse and then 2 chocolate discs that sit on top

I may be way off but for some reason, the way you described it, this is what popped in my head.:goodvibes

Hi everyone,

Just a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I'm booked with my VERY soon-to-be DH at the Grand Floridean Cafe on Oct 3rd, I want to suprise him with the mini castle cake. I know I should be ordering 2 weeks out but the 14 day out mark is the day before our wedding - I'll be rushed off my feet and probably not thinking about cake! Should I order it about 3 weeks out or, as it's a "standard" GF cake, could I leave it until we arrive at WDW on Sept 22nd and order at the concierge desk at Wilderness Lodge? Can anyone tell me how much that cake is?

Try calling them 3 weeks ahead and explaining why you can't order it 2 weeks out. The official cut off is 3 days ahead, so maybe you could call after your wedding? The mini castle cake is $25.

Also, I know you can order the chocolate covered strawberries to your room. DH doesn't eat any kind of fruit, does anyone know of an alternative that's similar? Maybe a plate of luxury chocolates or something? How much do the strawberries cost?

Wilderness Lodge doesn't even offer the chocolate-covered strawberries anymore, but they do have a selection of other chocolate desserts to deliver, like truffles or cookies. Call the resort and ask to speak with In Room Dining, and they will tell you what the choices are. :thumbsup2

oh that's right when we stayed at WL 2 years ago it was our anniversary trip - - We split our stay between Boardwalk and WL - and Boardwalk was being very... uncooperative, I tried to tell WL this, they didnt believe me till later...

I'm sure I mentioned at check in it was our 25th wedding anniversary. We stored the leftover choc cake in the luggage hold at WL (and they lost it - sorta, again, the manager at the Valet didnt believe me, so when I would report to him, I would just grin, like "I told you so" he was so out to give us a "You're at the Lodge Now" warm, fuzzy want to return feeling...

SO, when a knock on our door happened, and we were gifted with 2 plastic champagne glasses, that were dipped in chocolate, and filled with chocolate candies (I didnt order them) I just thought that was part of the WL magic! :wizard:

So I'd call the lodge and see what you can order, or , if you have a lot planned, just let some of the magic happen too! BUT if ANYTHING is important, do not let it to chance, order it, pay for it (Disney Florist also has a great snack pkg for kids that we love - along with a mylar balloon, that way I dont have to get a balloon in the park! Its delivered!)

Hope this makes sense

We are back and the Mickey Head cake from POP was a big hit. I have not down loaded my pics yet. I will post one when I do. The cake was a little dry but not bad. The frosting was wonderful. I am not sure what it was, it was like melted chocolate but not fondant. When all is said and done I would get it again.

Can I ask if you had it delivered to your room or did you have to pick it up? We are staying at POP in Dec for DS's 11th bday and would like to get one. thanks

Steppdaddy-A few pages back I posted what I found to be available directly from AKL. We're getting a Mickey head cake in our room upon arrival. This will send my boys over the edge as they love treats and surprises!!! :goodvibes I don't recall the cost and they're including a "peanut friendly" snack for DS4 after we discover if he can have their cake or not. (I know it's not garunteed peanut free but he gerenally does fine with cake mixes so long as there's not actual peanuts or peanut oil in the cake)

As for our Sept trip, I need some help please!! :flower3: I took a ressie at GFC (after our CM was magically cancelled for us) for lunch on 9/18. I've already called GF and spoke with Linda about a custom cake. She started out very snippy-wanting to know what I meant by "custom" (to which I answered not one that you can walk up and get at the podium). Once we were on the same page, her mood totally changed and she was amazingly helpful. She did tell me that all they had was the 8" white or chocolate cake. I pressed (knowing they can do much more) and told her I needed a birthday cake for a 4 year old.

Here's what I've got so far: 8" white cake with white chocolate gnache (sp?) frosting (I think-it's white cake and white frosting-she did not say buttercream!!!). This cake is $32. I initally wanted the castle on it with an additional $15 cost. I decided to do a Cars theme with "Happy Birthday Dan and Corbin". I also ordered a mini castle cake for DMIL and I believe the plate will say "Have a Magical Time". Perfect or so I thought....

Should I change the order to the mini dome cake thing (Mickey head shaped thing( for the boys (DH, DS4 and DS1) and mini castle cake for me and DMIL or should I leave it as is???

We're getting a custom cake at the Coral Reef as well...I don't know what to do now...:confused3 Who knew I'd spend my afternoon worrying if I chose the right cake! :sad2: I can't ask DH or DMIL for advice as it's a surprise! If I leave the 8" cake order here, I'm going to change the Coral Reef cake to a Nemo design instead of Cars.

Ok guys...thoughts are welcome and appreciated! :goodvibes

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for this thread. I have spent the last couple of weeks reviewing this and the previous cake thread. :surfweb: I have learned so much!:goodvibes I called today and spoke to Linda at the GF about doing a cake for my DH's birthday in October. She was very nice. I asked for a "special" cake; something shaped like Goofy's hat. DH's favorite character is Goofy. She said she would speak to the pastry chef to see if it can be done and call me back tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed that they will be able to do it.:wizard: She was very straight forward about the price. She told me that it would probably cost around $150.00 to do a special order like this. Ouch!! I was expecting it to be expensive though. Our 9 year old daughter, our 7 year old niece, and my SIL will be with us. The girls have greatly enjoyed the "planning" of a surprise cake, so I think they will enjoy it as much or more than DH will! I will let you know how tomorrow's call goes!

This is my birthday cake at Flying Fish on 8/6/08. It was wonderful!

It was rather tricky to order it. DH sent an e-mail to IPO at AKL and asked them to handle the cake. He told them what kind we wanted, and gave them our ADR info. That was in April.

About a week before we left he got a call from IPO. They said the cakes had all changed, that cake wouldn't be available, he was welcome to call Boardwalk Bakery and sort it out with them. :headache:

He called Boardwalk Bakery and was passed around between 3 or 4 different people. When he finally got passed back to someone he had already been transferred away from he started to get a little irked. I am actually not sure who he spoke to in the end, but it was somebody at Boardwalk Bakery. He had to get a 10" cake because they wouldn't do a smaller one. It was vanilla cake, strawberries & custard filling, WHIPPED CREAM frosting (that's my big requirement), garnished with white chocolate shavings and strawberries.

It was HUGE, and we were on DxDDP so we were always so stuffed that we hardly ate any of it. But what we did eat was GOOD!

I want to order a surprise anniversary cake for my DH next month. I've seen so many pictures that I was wondering how to actually place the order. Do I just describe what I want or do they tell you what they have depending on where you call or do they just take your order and you're surprised when it comes??? I'm so confused and I'm afraid I'll not do it correctly and then be disappointed. I need help!!

We're doing a surprise b-day trip for dd's 6th b-day and staying at the Poly. I'm debating between ordering a cake from in-house dining to be sent to the room or one with dinner at CRT that evening. We're hoping for a marble cake with chocolate frosting and a pic of Cinderella if at CRT or Hannah Montana if at the Poly. Anybody know if either one of those is an option?

I'm sorry if this was already answered (i'm sure it was) I just want to make sure i have it down. The Mini Castle Cake for 25.00 Does someone have a picture? Also what flavors does it come in and how big is it actually???? Also can it only be served at certain restaurants??? Thanks for any information!

It was about 3 pages back but I'll post it for you. ;)

It's $25 and it's a single-serving cake.

The outside is only available with white frosting. The inside comes in three flavors:

Chocolate cake/chocolate mousse filling
Vanilla/white chocolate mousse
Cheesecake

It is only made at the GF and served there as far as I know. But I vaguely remember hearing of one person having luck getting it at the BCV. Not sure though.

Anyone had a golf themed cake? Hubby loves golf and would love to get him one.

I'm off to Disney tomorrow (a day early thanks to Hannah hitting NC!)
Fingers crossed that all goes well! Our Anniversary is on the 10th at Narcoossees if any DISers happen to be there!
I'll post pics of hubby's cake when we get back! :cool1:

I think the cake ordering is just ???? depending on who you get to take your order. I called to order a cake for DH birthday to be picked up at POP. I was so happy when the girl I talked to told me the cakes come from Boardwalk Bakery. I told her I wanted a 10 inch but then she told me they only did white or choc icing no different flavors or filling!!! and it would be an extra 45 to personalize the cake!!! WHAT! I'm going to call back today.

I believe you can also get the castle cake at CRT as well as the GF. :goodvibes

Happy cake ordering

Happy cake ordering

That's the first I've heard of this. As far as I know you can only get it at the GF.

I know that you can get the white chocolate Cinderella slipper dessert at both locations though.

It all depends on which resort you're going to be at and who you talk to - everyone who posts here seems to get a different answer. You just have to call the cake hotline and ask what your options are (and if you don't like the answer, call again and hope you get someone else! :rotfl: )
