Read a post about how Sara Lee cakes taste & look at Coral Reef: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1857118 - It's post #6.

What the poster said was "After our meal the cake I ordered was served along with candles and a chorus of Happy Birthday. It was a fantastic experience and worth the calls, e-mails, more calls. Oh and by the way. The cake was the six inch dreaded Sara Lee. It was chocolate/chocolate, decorated with strawberries and chocolate Happy Birthday signs. It was moist and delicious, not frozen or dry. We were very pleased. "

Actually, the cake they had was made by Epcot's Bakery. It turns out that the only place that's getting Sara Lee cakes is the Magic Kingdom - all the other theme parks and resorts have their own bakeries so they are continuing to make their own 6-inch cakes. These are frozen just as the Sara Lee cakes are....

Can anyone tell me what the flavor the castle cakes are?

Chocolate/Chocolate, Vanilla/white chocolate mousse, and cheesecake.

Are there icing choices for the cakes??? Buttercream, Ganache, Cream cheese etc... I saw cake and filling choices but no icing info. Thanks. Also if we are at the FW Cabins can it be delivered to the cabin???

From everything I've seen, the only icing choices are vanilla buttercream or chocolate buttercream. With wedding cakes, you don't focus much on the icing because it usually gets covered by fondant. ;) However, there may very well be cream cheese frosting or ganache... you'd just have to ask. :thumbsup2

I was planning on surprising my mom with a castle cake on her birthday. But I made surprise reservations at Victoria and Albert's and I don't know how much food we're going to get. I'm thinking that the cake is small enough though that we could finish it XD

I had this cake made as a groom's cake for a casual dinner during our wedding vacation last year. I had it coordinated through our wedding planner. The bakery at the Grand made it and I picked it up to head over to Wispering Canyon. It was a BIG hit and we shared it with everyone around us!

We are huge baseball fans and my husband is the most devoted Oakland A's fan alive!! (which is hard living in Boston!) We have a foam finger collection from all of the parks we have visited.

It's hard to tell in the picture because of the flash, but I was actually mad when I opened the box because it looked like all they did was stick a foam finger into the cake!!:rotfl: There was some sponge work on the fondant that looked like it was actually foam!! :worship:

The cake was yellow cake with strawberries and strawberry mouse!! It was amazing! The green fondant was tasty too! It kind of reminded me of a fruit roll up.

Picture968.jpg

The cake cost $225 (last year) :scared: and I avoided the delivery fee ($75) by picking it up on the way to dinner. :thumbsup2

I will gladly answer any questions you guys might have! (If I can remember all the details!)

Could someone post their opinion about the taste of the cheesecake flavored mini-castle cake? Could you describe it? Thanks!

Wow. That´s a huge cake. May I ask how many it fed?

Is it true the GF will only let you order the special fillings (Bailey's mousse, etc.) if you order a 10"? That is what I was told yesterday. Actually when I said, "Fine, I'll order the 10" with Bailey's mousse--she said the CM I spoke with didn't think they offered that even for the 10"--and said that I should call back and talk with Linda today.

We just got back from our trip. We ordered the white chocolate marble fondant cake from the GF bakery. It was beautiful just like all the pics here. The white chocolate marble "fondant" is not fondant at all, it's melted chocolate. So if you like the look of fondant but not the taste that is a good choice. It was white cake with white chocolate mouse filling. The filling was awesome. The cake, well sucked. it was dry and flavorless. Betty Crocker mix is 100 times better. It was so dry I couldn't believe it. Just like so many here had said. The cakes at walmart are more moist. But the filling and the "fondant" was really good.

Honestly was it worth the money, probably not. It was beautiful but 1/2 the part that makes up the cake was not good at all. I'd save the money and get something at home if you can.

I'm not sure how many the cake fed...I would say at least 50? It was HUGE! Maybe even more if you cut it right.

here is my sons 3rd birthday cake from chef mickeys. this is the 6 inch cake. we were given 2 options a frozen 6 inch and a fresh one, they said they will only personalize the fresh ones, but they cost the same so we went with the fresh. with tip and tax it cost close to $30, but it was worth it and i would do it again. even though only about 1/4 of the cake was eaten.

I actually just changed our reservations to Victoria and Albert's! I think that i'm going to get that awesome castle cake then...It is vanilla flavored?

And I thought that Disney doesn't do carrot cakes...

You will probably find Victoria & Albert's quite filling. The portions may seem small but there are so many of them you won't go away hungry. The last time I walked out of the restaurant I was so full I could literally feel my after-dinner coffee sitting at the back of my throat -- there was simply no place for it to go. (Do order the coffee -- it's an experience just to watch it brew!) :upsidedow

By all means, get the cake . . . but plan on taking it away in a box.;)

I just got off the phone with Linda at GF and they're looking into recreating our wedding cake!!

I asked if they can add some extra "dots" on the ends of the scroll work to form Mickey ears. She's gonna talk to the chef and let me know.

I am beyond excited. DH suprised me with this trip, so I'm gonna suprise him with this cake on Sunday night. I hope he loves it!

We had one this past July for our 24th anniversary. The cheesecake was really good in taste. And it was smooth and creamy as well. It was covered with buttercreme icing. I love it, but hubby said it was a bit too sweet for him. But yes, the cheese cake itself is quite good.

Blessings,
Winnie

Winnie,
Is it a cheesecake or a cake flavored like cheesecake?
Thanks!
