Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

Has anyone called RD regarding the "specially priced" park tickets? I am just curious how much of a discount it will actually be. With the DLH and the Avengers, I am trying to decide if I should look at getting an annual pass.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Get Travel Sports & Events is handling the Disneyland races. This is their prices from their site that they directed me to when I called Run Disney a few weeks ago

I'm thrilled about doing the Avengers 1/2. I did my first 1/2 last year in November (Cleveland) when it was 18 degrees outside and the water stops had water/Gatorade where ice had formed on the top of the cups. This November it'll be so much nicer!

OP updated with your addition! welcome! :cool1:

After paying about $110 for my WDW hotel for Tower of Terror in October this year, I can't believe the prices of the main hotels at DL! I've stayed at both Paradise Pier and Disneyland hotel in the past, but dang - $315 per night for Paradise Pier is just brutal! That's almost the cost of my entire hotel stay for my mini-weekend at Disney World!

I love the DL hotels, but anyone have been good recommendations? I've browsed the DL hotel section a bit already and some of the posts here. I would like something obviously close to DL that post-1/2 marathon I can get a quick shower and then enjoy the parks afterwards. Thanks!

As pp mentioned yes the tickets are through GET travel. I wanted to add that if you book one of the Disney hotels with them, you get a $25 per night credit towards park tickets. Since we're staying at PPH for 3 nights I was able to get a 4 day hopper for one of my kids (though its an adult ticket) for $150.

I'm a fan of the Hojo though it is a 20 minute walk to the race start. They offer a discount for runners on race weekend if you call them directly. The most comfortable beds IMO.

This has been the case for at least the past few years. I don't suspect a change for this race.

Thanks everyone! So it is a tad different than for the WDW races where you enter a code and purchase from an online "store" Those prices are really tempting.

We have been happy with Anaheim Dessert Inn and Suites. Not fancy...at all. However very very close to the main gates of the park. :goodvibes

Thanks for the input guys. I'll look into those hotels. For me I'm not that concerned with the room since I plan on spending as much time as I can at the parks.

:cool1: So excited! I just had to share. Got a good deal on airfare so I booked the returning flights. It added a couple nights. I was able to extend my reservation at Dessert Inn without any trouble. Now I will be able to enjoy the expo, the race and then a couple nice days in the parks.

I've been looking at flights for my family so I can lock in our plans. A few days in San Diego, a few days in Anaheim, the race, then home. It would be nicer to have the free days after the run, but our kids are off school 2 days the week before so we need to take advantage of that.

Dh and I are not taking the younger kids with us, so it will just be us and our oldest ds and his fiance. She will be missing some school for it. I don't think anyone likes it...especially since her school cost a pretty penny for her to be there. It is what it is though.. she would be taking it off if we went before the race or like we are.

Very cool to be stopping in San Diego first though!!:thumbsup2

We looked into flying into San Diego and going to the zoo and then driving up to Anaheim as well. However we decided against it only because it seemed like it would be a very very busy vacation by doing that with going to the zoo and then driving or coming up to go to Disney and then taking the train up to Salinas.

I have been looking for tickets as well, but I am waiting for Southwest to release their fares first I think before we book anything. Our airport tends to be very expensive to fly out of so the cheaper we can go the better since we need 4 tickets this time.

If you do decide to visit both, do SD after. The zoo is soooo big, and can truly take all day (and you might not even see everything). There are hills, it can be hot... Not the way I want to spend my time before a long run. So do it after, as a stretch-out after the run. :)

Hi everyone! I just found this thread. I registered for the half last month, and was super bummed I didn't log on in time to sign my girls up for the kids races, but that's ok, next time. Anyway, trying to figure out hotels and stuff. We live down in the San Diego area, but we haven't been to Disneyland yet (just moved here 5 months ago). I was shocked to see how expensive the disney hotels are, I'm used to WDW where at least I have Shades of Green and the value resorts. The Desert Palms one seems nice though, I might book that bunk bed suite. Should I be in a rush to book stuff, or is it another month or two before things fill up. I look forward to reading through all the posts here and the fun part - figuring out my costume! :)

I have stayed at the desert palms. I really liked it. It wasn't "too" far from the main gate. I have no experience with the DL races though...so I can't advise you on how fast things can book up. I think the nice thing is that a lot of the places you don't have to put any money down in order to reserve. Not sure if that is the way with Desert Palms though... I am with you on the cost of the DLR hotels... very shocking to go from the ability to stay at a value or even a moderate at WDW and then see how much they are at DLR.

I would advise booking a hotel now as long as you don't have to put a deposit down. Most of the hotels have 48 hour cancellation policies. Rates have already risen from what they were a month ago so the sooner the better really.

Thanks! Booked Desert Palms, it seemed nice but still super pricey! At least I have something in case I can't find a better deal elsewhere. From the sound of it there's no charge until you check out.

Get Travel has discounts for that hotel.

I'm doing the 1/2 and the 5K. Nice to see you all here!

I'm so bummed that I had to start my account over since I moved and changed email accounts and forgot the old password  So, if anyone remembers me from the Princess 1/2 threads (and poly and WL), I'm the same old "Sherekhan" with a brand new "1" at the end now! :cheer2:

Have people started to train for this yet? If you have, what training plan are you using? Or, even if you haven't started have you decided what training plan to use? Just curious to see everyone's different training methods!

Galloway is great. Get the plan online and modify for your own needs. you have so long that you can work up more slowly than his plan. It helps to be comfortable with 5 miles before you start in earnest I think.

Good luck!
