*******Official August 2017 Countdown Thread ~ Feeling hot, hot, hot!!!******

Well-after not wanting to go crazy with ADR's I have 3 PPO breakfasts-doubtful I will keep them all but it is hard to plan without park hours final or even RoL packages yet!

yep, i have all kinds of "alternate" reservations...all dependent on ROL!

UGGGH, I hate the anticipation of an upcoming trip, it is too much for me! I should never, ever book more than a month or two in advance, because the waiting is just torture. :worried:

OK fellow August travellers - how much sunscreen do I bring? We've had trips during every other season but summer, so I'm a newbie when it comes to WDW in August. I know all the tips, rope drop, mid-day break, lots of water, but I'm seriously trying to determine how much sunscreen we'll need. I've brought one can of spray for my family of 5 in the past, but I'm guessing we'll need more for summer. My DH will use very little, but the kids and I burn easily. How much do you bring?

We are a family of 5 as well. We spent 11 days last summer, and sunscreen was one of the things I bought. Not having a clue how much we needed (it's a guy thing I think lol) I bought 4 cans. I think we wound up using 3/4 of one can lol. Well, at least I don't have to buy sunscreen this year :) I would say if you have 2 cans you are probably set, unless you are staying way over 11 days.

I think it all just depends on how obsessively you reapply, how much swimming you like to do, etc. We haven't been in the middle of summer yet, but when we went in May it was already pretty hot. It was just two of us, but I react really badly to getting a sunburn, so I was applying at least 2-3 times a day, and the two of us went through more than 2 spray cans in 6 days. When we went in December though it was milder and we used less than one can for about 7 days. We'll be there 10 days in August this time around, and we know how often we tend to reapply, so we'll probably bring 3 cans.

Hey all! We have Disney fever here in my house! This will be visit #4 for me and DH, Visit #3 for DD (15) and DS (13) and visit #1 for our newest family member DD (13). We will be at the Poly Aug. 5 - Aug. 12 for the first time! I am soooo excited, we will be celebrating our 18th anniversary and an adoption at my dream resort! We last visited in 2010 and I know so much has changed. I'm looking forward to catching up here on the DIS! I forgot how much I enjoyed these boards!!!

Congratulations! Those are both amazing life milestones worth celebrating! The Polynesian is the place for extra special trips. Breathtaking resort. Welcome back to the Boards!

Congrats, and welcome back! Sounds like you are going to have an amazing trip!

I am super excited. I booked our flights through SW on the day they were released and at the time there was only 1 low priced flight (I was using points) on the way down so I took it, even though we wouldn't be arriving 'til late at night. Bummed me out to miss a whole Disney day but hey, when you want free flights, you can't be choosy. So i've patiently kept checking and saw that an earlier flight went down in price and I was able to change it at no cost. So now we land at 4:00 p.m.!! We still won't go to the parks or anything but at least we can hang at POR, swim, etc. for a bit vs. us arriving late and immediately going to bed! I'm so, so happy. Now....if an earlier flight ever goes down, maybe I can get us there even earlier in the day. :cloud9:
Also keeping fingers crossed for the flight home because -- same situation there. The only flight home that was priced low enough leaves at 7:30 a.m. so that's what I booked :crazy2: . But I'd rather not be getting on the Tragical Express at 4:30 a.m. if I can help it.

Yep, I'm here. Just checking out the summer offers that dropped this morning. Very limited availability, nothing that improves over my current non discounted package at POR for my family of 5. Not losing hope for some sort of discount eventually though.

I noticed that too for our CSR stay. But I think there have been some issues with glitches in the system, because if I play with dates sometimes I can find availability for a 3 night stay, but not for only 2 of those nights, etc. I wonder if that might be the case for you or for others. It was super weird. In past (pre-discount) I had luck by booking a longer stay in whatever room I wanted that wasn't available for my actual dates and then calling Disney and having them shorten the length of my stay, but I don't know if that'll work for me again this time. A bit frustrating.

yes, they set aside rooms in blocks (i.e., for 3 nights, 4 nights, 5 nights, etc.) So if you try to book less than that block, it will show unavailable. They used to automatically delete the extra nights for you if you booked more than you needed and then called, but now they are not always willing to do it.

Interesting... ok well that makes sense.

We are doing a split stay. There doesn't appear to be any discounts at BC, but there seems to be with AKL. I am having my travel agent check.

Also, BWI appears to have a discount. If so, I may switch from BC to BWI.

So.....let's get this thread moving! Anybody trying any new ADRs this trip? I always do at least 1 new restaurant (trying to make my way through every single TS restaurant in WDW), this time it will be dinner at Rose & Crown. Also doing breakfast at 1900 Park Fare.....been there for dinner before, but never breakfast, so I'm excited for the characters at breakfast. The others meals will be repeats -- BoG dinner on my bday, CRT on DD's bday, H&V dinner for the Fantasmic! package, and (eventually!!!) Tusker House dinner for the RoL package.

We're doing about half and half with trying new ADRs and going back to our favourites. Our new ones include Kona, Cape May Cafe, Beaches and Cream, and Ohana breakfast (we've done dinner but never breakfast.) Hope you enjoy Rose & Crown! We went for dinner during Illuminations once and had a nice meal and an excellent (and attractive! I called him Sexy Pirate Andy :littleangel:) server!

Dropped my Sports preferred stay by about $200! I'm a happy camper!!

Rose & Crown is a new one for us this trip as well. We did 1900PF breakfast on our honeymoon and the food was good. We didn't have great service, but it was otherwise enjoyable. :)

I love Kona! It's one of our favorites - we've done breakfast and dinner. Ohana for dinner is one of our new ones this trip, but we loved reakfast.

We tried really hard to focus on new places with our DxDDP this trip because we absolutely love food, so our new places are: Skipper Canteen, Tony's, Crystal Palace Breakfast, Be Our Guest Dinner, Grand Floridian Cafe, Ohana Dinner, Biergarten, Chefs de France, Spice Road Table, Tokyo Dining, Nine Dragons, Rose and Crown, Sci-Fi Dine In (after cancelling on both of our last two trips), and Boma. I'm going to come home 20 pounds heavier.
