*******Official August 2017 Countdown Thread ~ Feeling hot, hot, hot!!!******

8/18 has a 5:15 and a 6:35, 8/19 has a 4:10 and a 6:35, 8/20 has a 4:40 and a 7:20, 8/21 has 4:40 and 7:10, 8/24 4:40 and 6:45. I just picked random days.

Gotcha. I was looking at breakfast - should have specified. I found a 9:35 - since I am not a commando-style park person it can work.

I think the system was being glitchy last night (big surprise) because I wasn't finding anything for it.

Oh, that makes sense then. Yeah, I thought it was being a bit glitchy last night too. Some restaurants that I've never had trouble getting reservations at seem to be booked for days on end. I'll keep checking and put in a touring plans reservation request too.

WOOT. Booked Poly yesterday from 8/24-9/2.

BOG dinner is not going to be easy to come by...

Similar dates as mine. I got BOG dinner 9/2 (which I may end up cancelling). Will let you know if I do...may not be for a while though. Got a lunch ressie on the day we wanted dinner. Just not sure yet if we want to do lunch that day or change our 9/2 plan and do dinner there.

Jumping on board the August train. (toot toot!) Why am I just running across this thread now? I am starting to seriously question my DISing skills :scratchin

We are going to WDW Aug 16 - 26 staying at GF. It will be me, DH, DD19 and DD16. We are so excited to go back and have a longer trip with plenty of down time.

Even though this is our 7th trip, we are doing a first....... FINALLY planning a day at Typhoon Lagoon! And to make it extra special, I reserved a beach shack cabana :beach: I WAS going to keep it a secret but couldn't...... I already spilled the beans. Oh well.... The opening of Miss Adventure Falls has us even more excited for TL :cool1:

We did typhoon lagoon last August for the first time with our kids and they LOVED it! We are so excited for the new family raft ride opening that we are planning TWO days at typhoon lagoon during our trip this August! We will be staying at the Poly Aug 15-23! My DD was a tad too short for crushin gusher water rollar coaster last August , but this year she will definitely clear that height bar!! That is awesome about the cabana!! Have fun!!

Appreciate it, but we're leaving that day, so dinner is a no go on 9/2. Don't want to do lunch because of the pre-ordering... and this trip is a complete surprise to the kids!

We didn't preorder last time and it wasn't really a big deal-you have an opportunity to order once you get in the castle. I have a BOG lunch booked already as it is a great way to cool down mid-day, and it is one of the better CS meals in the park.

Since you have been to TL in August.....Did you use water shoes? Or was the pavement OK for bare feet? I am not a fan of walking in flip flops with wet feet with all the slipping and sliding. I am thinking of buying water shoes for the family and wondered about your experience. We all have Teva sandals but I am thinking these would be too bulky for the water park. TIA:goodvibes

I went to both water parks in August 2014. We went at rope drop and stayed for half day for 3 days. I had to look back at my Photopass pictures, but when I could see my feet in the pics I never had shoes on. I wore flip flops to the park and around to get snacks/bathroom, but if I was going to a slide/attraction I left my flip flops at our chair. I think I recall a few times trying to step in other people's puddles or shadows, but overall I thought it was better to go barefoot than to loose my flip flops or spend $$$ buying water shoes.

When we did Blizzard Beach in May I wore water shoes and the boyfriend did not. He has pretty tough feet so he knew he'd be okay, but he didn't typically find it too bad then. I was very glad to have them though and had bought them fairly cheaply somewhere like Walmart. For me it was just easier than having to wear shoes I could put on and take off over and over and I absolutely wanted something on my feet for walking into the bathrooms, or to get some extra grip on the bottom of the wave pool, etc. We're planning to go to TL in August and are both planning to wear water shoes this time.

I was thinking the exact thing you are thinking here last year before we went, I researched it here on the DIS and decided not to bother. My kids wear keens all summer and especially in Disney for those pop up rain showers, but as soon as we found our spot at typhoon off the shoes went and we all went barefoot. Even though it was August and in the mid 90s all week ( it was a HOT week!) we never experienced hot pavement. I did see a CM using a hose or something to water a part of the pavement down, but we never had problems!

I agree with the bathrooms! I did slip my sandals on when I ran into the bathroom. Also the bottom of the typhoon. Lagoon wave pool can be rough on sensitive feet. I was okay being bare footed, but if you have sensitive feet/soles it may be something to consider!

Glad to read this. We are going to WDW this Aug and have a day planned at TL. Will look into water shoes for family!

Hhhmmmm......The post about the boyfriend having tough feet got me to thinking.... Living in the northern midwest we don't go barefoot outside very often thus are feet tend to be more sensitive not having built up a "toughness." I am thinking water shoes might be a good thing just in case. Even if we don't use them the whole day, we would definitely use them when walking into the restroom or to get food and drinks. I will look for some inexpensive water shoes at walmart or on amazon.

Thanks for all the replies!! :disrocks:

Definitely get the water shoes. They are not that expensive, and can make a huge difference!

DFIL refused to get them for our first trip. Within 15 min of arriving at the water park he regretted it and bought water shoes in the shop there... for 3x what he would have paid back home!

Oops! I did it again!

Now I am at Sports! :) Same dates. Preferred location. Saving $200! :)

Just checking in on all of the activity!!! Clearly, I need to work on updating page 1 again. :teeth:

I am (not so) patiently waiting for ROL packages to be released!!!! C'mon Disney!!! :hyper:

Sorry! :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

And I know the feeling. The CM I spoke with when changing my resort to Sports asked if there was anything else she could help me with and I said "I've pretty much got everything done meal-wise...unless you've got Rivers of Light dining packages???" And she cracked up and said "Girl, I WISH I could help you!! I know everyone is wanting those!! Just keep checking back - even we aren't getting any information on when they'll be in the system." :rotfl2::rotfl2:
