Hi all, I just discovered this thread. We booked WL this monday for August 9 to August 14. 150+ days and counting. Can't wait!

Welcome!! You're under 140 days actually as we arrive on the 16th and are at 143 lol

ok i am SO EXCITED! not only did i finally nail down our flights, BUT i also was given a room with a discounted price saving my DH and I $470!!!!!! So i'm all excited!!!!!!!! I can not WAIT!!!!!! and with once upon a time back on tv i am showing my Disney Side all OVER the place!!! YAY!!!!!!

We had snow last night, and the wind today is so strong it's making the windows whistle. Cold. So ready for a nice, hot summer vacation. :beach:

The wind was insane!!! I swear, I will not complain ONCE about August Florida heat. NOT ONCE! Is 40 degrees really too much to ask for in late March?

lol, I hear you both!!! We are actually forecasted to be above the freezing mark today. :cheer2: No kidding!!!! Not by much, of course, but its worth celebrating nonetheless.

Lol when it comes to our Disney trips we all wanna be as accurate as we can...no need to wait longer than necessary ;-)

Amen, sister!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Oh yeah, I also wanted to mention.......we're doing the happy dance today! :dance3:  :dance3:

DH finally got his holidays approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Idiot boss was transferred to one of the other plants in the city (the company DH works for has 3 locations here in our town), so DH got a new boss. This fellow is a super guy, and DH has worked with him on and off in multiple capacities over the past 20 years. He is also an Orlando lover, having just returned from taking his two daughters and fiance there for New Years week. :)

New boss took over the position last Monday, and DH's vacation was approved with a smile this morning. Woot, woot! :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

Hi everyone! Jumping on board the August train again this year. This is our 3rd August in a row, love it!

This year's vacation under a lot of uncertainty because my husband has been unemployed for a year, but... he starts a new job on Monday! :cool1: So obviously, I booked a vacation right away. :rotfl:

This year will be DS6 & I only and we are both super excited for this mommy/son trip. DH is not a Disney fan at all, and although he has come along the past 2 years, he's really happier to spend the week on his boat and have us two Disney freaks go at it on our own.

I've booked a Nemo suite at AoA and really really excited to be staying at this resort! Our dates are Aug 24 - Sept1.

Am I reading correctly that there may be a party nights in August??? That has me over the top excited, if it's true. I've always wanted to do a party and just haven't been able to convince myself to not go in summer time. If it's true, I'm definitely going to try and book it.

Anyway, glad to be officially on board and planning my next vacation. I've only been booked a week and I am already over obsessed with the planning. :goodvibes

Wahoooo Gina! That's so great to hear DH has approved leave. And I wish for warmer weather this spring too. We've been 21 to 23 degrees every day this week. It's been a cold March. I am hoping April is more seasonable and better weather. A northeaster is to arrive this week-end, but since we may be above freezing too, we're to get a boatload of rain and not snow. Either way, a messy weekend.

Wahoo Gillian. We love summer vacations. I usually travel with my kids and not my DH. He works where he doesn't want to take off, and does not enjoy crowds, airplanes, and rides. Hence, we leave him home with the dog, and both are happy and we are happy. We'll be there when you are, but before you coming and leaving, as we come to WDW the day before you and leave the day before you. Darn high school and middle school and soccer requirements. We need the holiday and the next day to get read for school and sports that start that Wednesday. We will also be at the BC, as my teen DS will most likely be a pool rat, and the only reason we still do WDW is because DS wanted to stay at the BC. We'll be at Universal for 4 days before WDW, as DS and DD are potter fans and ride junkies, and we enjoy staying at the Portofino.

What is my countdown? When it's months away, I don't start to count yet. It has to be less than 180 days though, as our ADR window opened up weeks ago. :hourglass

Question-How does everyone navigate these boards? Do you have certain boards you stick to? Do you just look at the most recent threads?

I enjoy wasting my time on here, but I feel like I don't do it efficiently. ;) It's too big and I get lost. I only have one other message board I'm on, and it's much smaller.

Jobs are good :thumbsup2 Congratulations to your DH and for being able to book the trip you want! The current theory IS that there'll be a halloween party at the end of August. Waiting to find out for sure though since nothing's official.

I find my time is spent between a couple different areas on the boards, but usually only one or two threads within those areas. Sometimes I like to see what else is going on :surfweb: and jump into a few different threads, but seldom as a conversation.

I usually read through the posts I follow. You can find any post you commented on by going to the User CP tab. It makes it much easier than searching for it again. If I have time I will look through Theme Park Attractions and Strategies. I am glad that the complaining about fastpass plus seems to be calming down:)

What a relief!! NOW you can really dive into the planning, without that worry hanging over your head! Congrats!

Thank you ladies!! :goodvibes

As a little added bonus, he also managed to secure an extra day off.....initially, he was supposed to work until 8 pm on the Saturday that we leave. He would come home, shower, then we were driving to Syracuse (3 hours plus whatever wait we have at the border) that night to our park and fly hotel, as our flight leaves at 8:05 am in the morning. The poor fellow was going to be exhausted. But now he's got that Saturday (the 16th) off as well. :thumbsup2 This means we can get to Syracuse in time for dinner at our fave Dinosaur Barbecue  .

Most of my time is spent on this thread, on the Orlando Hotels & Attractions board, and on the SeaWorld/Discovery Cove board (the latter being my most-visited). Those are my "big 3".

I also keep peruse the Transportation board from time to time (more regularly when I am in the market for booking flights, or watching for rental car deals as our travel date rolls closer), the Budget board (but I find folks there can sometimes be a little harsh :crazy2:), and the Canadian board (do we really say "eh" as much as people think we do???? :rotfl:).

I seem to also be regularly checking the Rumors board and the Theme Parks board these days for MNSSHP date updates too.....yep, a little excited still about that prospect, I am :hyper: .

I usually click on "new posts" about once a day and scan through the titles. I get curious about what people find important to talk about. I didn't know about the "User CP" tab, though, so thanks for that info!

I caved. I just couldn't stand the wait any longer.

I made an Executive Decision as head of the family and booked a 5 day 4 night stay at All Star Sports for me, DW, and our DS (he'll be 19 months when we go). It'll be his first trip so I couldn't justify passing up the free memory maker deal.

We'll be there the afternoon of Friday Aug 15 - Tuesday morning the 19th, driving from Texas.

Congrats to Gina!! Glad your dh got his vacay!!

Welcome to all the new joiners!!

I go through my subscribed threads first then check current threads for interesting topics, then if I'm interested I'll pop in to theme parks and the DCL boards.

I have to say I'll be sad if they do MNSSHP on the 29th and 1st only! We're on the dream on the 29th and fly home morning of the 1st!! Lol

What I'm reading mostly depends on if I'm on my phone or a computer. If I'm on a computer I'll check my subscribed threads and new posts. If I'm on my phone I'll check my subscribed and then I cruise between the Theme Parks Touring Plans and Strategies, Resorts and Restaurants.

I have a question for all you August folks. Last year when we went in August we didn't do any afternoon breaks. We are both 20 somethings with no kids. I felt like it was just wasting too much precious park time to take a break but ended up totally exhausted the last couple days. We went to DTD one night and I was just too exhausted to do anything there at all! This year we'll be going a couple days longer and staying at the Poly and BC so I think we should be able to do some breaks. My question is, do you ever feel like it's a waste? Do you ever get back to your room and get bummed out that you're not at a park?

We also have one Universal day planned. Our main goal at Universal is to go see Diagon Alley and Springfield. We still have park tix for that day at Disney because it's like a 20$ difference . Would we be totally nuts to stop in at a park that day after Universal? I feel like I would be kicking myself if we were down there for a day, on property (and we'll be at the Poly at that point) and didn't at least swing by MK.

I just recently got accepted to a Teacher Certification Program and will be going back to school in the fall so I don't know when our next chance to go to Disney will be! I want to be able to relax while we are there but also know that I'm going to want to be in the parks as much as possible!

We don't take breaks, but we also don't do full days in the park. I also have a young son (now 6), so our approach would be a bit different than yours. But, we choose our park for the day and tour until he's getting too tired/cranky and then head back to the resort for pool time. Some days that was at lunch time and other days he'd go until dinner time. Only once did we return to a park and that was a night we had the Wishes Dessert Party. It was a struggle to get him back to the park because he likes the pool so much. :) I do think a lot of time can be wasted going back and forth for breaks, especially using Disney transportation. But, i also think having an overall relaxed time is important too and if you were too tired by the end of your last vacation, then I think it would be well worth your while to take a few breaks. Besides, the pools are so nice, especially in August!
