TOMORROW TOMORROW I LOVE YA TOMORROW YOU'RE ONLY A DAY AWAYYYYYY :cool1::goodvibes

Probably will not get any work done today because my brain is already in Disney.

Did online checkin this morning for Southwest and got B boarding 02,03,04,05 so we will definitely be getting seats together which is one less thing I have to obsess about now! :thumbsup2

Nice work!

Very exciting! :dance3::dance3::dance3:

I think our flight is scheduled to get in at 10am. So we'll be home around lunch or so. It still leaves us plenty of time to get some groceries for lunches and that's about all we will need. Luckily, when we go to Disney the kids get up really early for rope drop most days, and then they are in bed by 10 usually. Hopefully that gets us ready for early school mornings again. My son doesn't have to be up until 7:30 on school mornings, but my dd has to be up by 6.

Our flight gets in around noon. And like you, we do rope drop, so I was thinking the same thing -- that will prepare him for getting up early again.

Mickey Mail Arrived! Going to Pick it up right now at CAA :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
YEAH!

Question of the day: How many of you are not very crafty but are learning how to do craft projects for Disney thanks to DIS forums ?

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

:wave2: Me.... I have put off making the shirts, think I will start a couple of weeks before our trip. Loving all the ideas, I could (attempt) to make all of them!

Emteach - Yeah for you!! Gotta love Mickey Mail!:cheer2::cool1:

I can't believe tomorrow is August 1st! This summer has just flown by!

I drive up to see my brother in Maine on Thursday to surprise him that he is going to WDW with us!!!:ssst: I can't wait to see his reaction!pixiedust:

Hey everyone! I'll be in WDW Aug 29th through Sept 2nd! I can't wait!!!

WELCOME to the crazy Team August thread! We're wild, we're wacky, we're just plain DIS-crazy (and we enable and feed off each other).

I finally got the last of my projects done for this trip. Had to go to my sister's house to iron on the transfers for the kids shirts because I can't find my iron anywhere. DH asked me where was the last place I saw it and I had to admit that the last time I remember using it was to make a tee shirt for my son announcing my latest pregnancy. My girls are 2 1/2  guess that shows how often I iron clothes.
I ended up making luggage tags, tags for the kids pin lanyards, tie-dye mickey shirts, and name shirts for the kids.

Your tie dyes are super cute. I also really like your iron-ons. I debated doing iron-ons because my computer skills are better than my crafty skills....but I've had such bad experiences with iron-ons in the past with their not survving washes and such that I ended up going with a sharpie.

Question of the day: How many of you are not very crafty but are learning how to do craft projects for Disney thanks to DIS forums ?

Me, me, MEEEEE!

I am not crafty at all. But I love the look of custom stuff. Plus my thrifty side kicks in and I think "I'm NOT paying $30 for a shirt". So I always end up making stuff. Last trip, I made autograph books and journals for my kids. I loved them - but am not making them this year because my kids didn't journal a whole lot and it was just a pain. For autographs, I'm buying a gold sharpie and get the characters to sign their ear hats (purchased on the previous trip).

I also still have our custom Ts from our last trip that we will rewear. That one I got an arty friend to do because no way can I possibly draw a spiral Mickey.

164703_500795554790_1107351_n.jpg

I made the spiral tie dyes and the bleached shirts (posted a while back!)

Your bleached shirts motivated me to try making my own. I had my arty friend lined up to help again this year but I loved how simple the bleached shirts looked. I sat down with a bleach pen and experimented on an old black sock. It did NOT work (must be too old). Then I was going to do the spray thing and started getting nervous that I would mess it up.

Finally I decided to try the sharpie after getting inspired by some pics I saw online. At the end of the day, I love our shirts. Now I'm tempted to start messing with more shirts! Maybe I will try the bleach project on another set of shirts....

Today's the day!! I have my 2nd interview in a little more than an hour! Thank you again to everyone for all of your support the past few weeks!!

Keep us posted. We're here in the stands cheering for you. :cheer2:

WOW - tomorrow you'll be in WDW! Our first Team August member in the World. Make sure you post once in a while so we can live vicariously through you as we wait impatiently for our turn.

As for my news - my Japanese exchange student arrived on Sunday night. She will stay with me for just under 2 weeks. I won't lie - this girl is going to be tough. I'm worried about her. She hasn't cracked many smiles and we just can't get through to her after having her for 2 nights. We've been a host family with this program for some years now - this is our 4th girl.

This girl is super shy and terrified to try speaking anything in English. She gets tongue-tied with simple questions. I am trying to get her to pull out her electronic translator more often but it's hard to get her to use it. We have been using Google translate on our phones.

We just can't get much enthusiasm from her - which is odd in this type of program. Normally the girls are hyper-excited. I caught her in a short sob at the breakfast table this morning - the poor thing. But because she won't say more than a word here and there, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to help her. I do know she is very jet lagged and being tired is not helping anything. We are forcing her to stay up until at least 9pm each night. She was nodding off at 7:30pm so we took her out for a short walk around the neighborhood before letting her get ready for bed at 8:30.

I'm taking her to Glo Golf tonight in the hopes of breaking the ice. I showed her pics and video and she smiled a little. I then asked if she wanted to bring a friend from the program and she said a clear "no". (I was impressed she understood what I was asking - but she was quite definite about it). Hopefully tonight will go well.

Gonna take some time I think - I just hope we'll find a way to get through and give her a fun time.

WHY!!!????

I work a a children's theatre camp, which is performing Annie..... And after the camp is over, I go to WDW...... You just reminded me of how long I have to wait.

I kind of can't believe tomorrow is August already. On one hand, I'm pumped because I've been waiting for this forever. On the other hand, I kind of don't know where my summer has gone, it's crazy.

On Saturday a friend and I are doing the Run for Your Lives 5K, that's another thing I've been waiting for forever. I've been registered for that for longer than I have been booked for this Disney trip, LOL.

Does anyone else have any last minute milestones to reach before they go?

Incase anyone needs, kohls has moisture wicking shorts for boys on clearance. $6, nice abc light

I have a question...What's the nearest beach when driving to Orlando? (meaning it doesn't have to be closest to Orlando just closest to 'on the way' once you get into FL. I am coming from IA so I won't hit any of the east coast beaches).

Thanks! :flower3:
I'm catching up- been super busy at work. DS and I used to go to Cocoa Beach when we'd go to Orlando. Not too far of a drive (I want to say an hour?, but could be totally wrong). The last time we went was 2005, though, so it's been awhile!

We just bought a Frogg Togg Chilly Pad. We put it to the test at a baseball game yesterday. It really does get cool after it is wet...unbelievable! We got one through Amazon (on of their sellers, not them) for around $15 with shipping. It will be helpful in so many situations for us!

I am completely in love with our Frogg Toggs! I bought one for DD to put in the stroller and was planning to buy one more after I saw whether it worked or not. I ended up buying 2 more because the boys each want one of their own. I keep putting them in our "Disney" box of stuff to pack for the trip, but they keep getting taken out because of how god-awful hot it's been this summer and there's so many places to use them.

I've told this story a million times so I'll keep it brief. Last year we had to take ds to the hospital the day we got home. His appendix had ruptured. We spent the next 2 weeks in the hospital with him:sad2:
I'll never forget it. It was dd's first day of high school and I couldn't be there for her. My husband sent me a text at the hospital (he had gone home to be with her) and I opened it and it was dd standing on the front porch in her uniform with her backpack. I had taken one every day since kindergarten.
He also got all my daycare kids off to school that day (I've watched these kids for years and their parents know us both well) since that was the day I was supposed to start back from vacation. He took a picture of each one of them on the porch to send to their mommies too:sad1:

Such a small thing but it made all of us cry! Love that man.:)

aw!

I can't even fathom that tomorrow is August. I get paid once a month, so today is my last payday till our trip. Crazy! I am on wk 6 of the Couch to 5K and it's my goal to run 5K before we go to WDW. I think it's a 9 wk program, so I should be at the 5K mark just before we leave. Then when we get back, I need to find an actual 5K race to sign up for so that I can keep up with the running. People keep telling me that it gets "fun" when you start racing. We'll see. Right now it's something I tolerate, not enjoy. Although I do like how I feel overall since I've started doing the program.

The shirts look GREAT! :thumbsup2 I'd love to see the other items if you have time to post pics!!

I got mine from amymickey and they are the BEST! You can click on my PTR to see pics of my shirts but I made 40 shirts total and they are all fantastic! I highly recommend these transfers!

I've learned so much from this forum. We tie-died yesterday based on directions from here. I have made t-shirts, luggage tags, autograph books, and will be making stroller tags and penny containers too! :goodvibes The DIS has inspired me to be so much more crafty!!

Thank you for the info I sent her a pm.

I use them for every trip and they work great. Just be careful when you trim them and leave a good border so they don't peel apart. I always do my itinerary on 8.5x11 but a little reduced so it fits in the lamination. Everything I need is on one page - hours, ADR numbers, other numbers, and each day is color coded with which park I think we'll go to in the morning and evening. The whole thing then goes in my bag and makes a great fan thanks to the stiffness of the lamination. ;)

I bought a laminator last year when Amazon had it as a gold box deal, but I've never even opened the box! :sad2:

Thank you :)

Just shared on Facebook, but want to share on here too! I made our family T shirts for Disney tonight. It ended up being super easy to do. I printed off Mickey and Minnie head outlines. Then, I used those as templates (see templates in 2nd pic) to draw outlines on our shirts with Sharpies. I also used foam letter stickers - the stickers made them really easy to use and one set could be re-applied multiple times and were sticky enough to use for all 4 shirts (and a lot of shifting around as I debated best positioning, etc).

Front of the shirts

Back of the shirts

I'm so excited for us to wear them!

I totally agree. This summer is going by so fast. I thought it would drag because I've been looking forward to Disney so much!

:cool1: Yay! I can't wait until I am in the single digit countdown!

One project crossed off my list today: Cleaning out the car. Vaccummed out about ten pounds of beach sand. Trunk is empty, ready to be packed in three weeks!! I also bought a little hand held Dusbuster to keep in the car for the trip- my boys are messy! AND I found a $40 check and a $10 Wawa gift card when I emptied one of the seat pockets! :cool1:
