Hey everyone! I'll be in WDW Aug 29th through Sept 2nd! I can't wait!!!
WELCOME to the crazy Team August thread! We're wild, we're wacky, we're just plain DIS-crazy (and we enable and feed off each other).
I finally got the last of my projects done for this trip. Had to go to my sister's house to iron on the transfers for the kids shirts because I can't find my iron anywhere. DH asked me where was the last place I saw it and I had to admit that the last time I remember using it was to make a tee shirt for my son announcing my latest pregnancy. My girls are 2 1/2

guess that shows how often I iron clothes.
I ended up making luggage tags, tags for the kids pin lanyards, tie-dye mickey shirts, and name shirts for the kids.
Your tie dyes are super cute. I also really like your iron-ons. I debated doing iron-ons because my computer skills are better than my crafty skills....but I've had such bad experiences with iron-ons in the past with their not survving washes and such that I ended up going with a sharpie.
Question of the day: How many of you are not very crafty but are learning how to do craft projects for Disney thanks to DIS forums ?
Me, me, MEEEEE!
I am not crafty at all. But I love the look of custom stuff. Plus my thrifty side kicks in and I think "I'm NOT paying $30 for a shirt". So I always end up making stuff. Last trip, I made autograph books and journals for my kids. I loved them - but am not making them this year because my kids didn't journal a whole lot and it was just a pain. For autographs, I'm buying a gold sharpie and get the characters to sign their ear hats (purchased on the previous trip).
I also still have our custom Ts from our last trip that we will rewear. That one I got an arty friend to do because no way can I possibly draw a spiral Mickey.
I made the spiral tie dyes and the bleached shirts (posted a while back!)
Your bleached shirts motivated me to try making my own. I had my arty friend lined up to help again this year but I loved how simple the bleached shirts looked. I sat down with a bleach pen and experimented on an old black sock. It did NOT work (must be too old). Then I was going to do the spray thing and started getting nervous that I would mess it up.
Finally I decided to try the sharpie after getting inspired by some pics I saw online. At the end of the day, I love our shirts. Now I'm tempted to start messing with more shirts! Maybe I will try the bleach project on another set of shirts....
Today's the day!! I have my 2nd interview in a little more than an hour! Thank you again to everyone for all of your support the past few weeks!!
Keep us posted. We're here in the stands cheering for you.
TOMORROW TOMORROW I LOVE YA TOMORROW YOU'RE ONLY A DAY AWAYYYYYY

Probably will not get any work done today because my brain is already in Disney.
Did online checkin this morning for Southwest and got B boarding 02,03,04,05 so we will definitely be getting seats together which is one less thing I have to obsess about now!
WOW - tomorrow you'll be in WDW! Our first Team August member in the World. Make sure you post once in a while so we can live vicariously through you as we wait impatiently for our turn.
As for my news - my Japanese exchange student arrived on Sunday night. She will stay with me for just under 2 weeks. I won't lie - this girl is going to be tough. I'm worried about her. She hasn't cracked many smiles and we just can't get through to her after having her for 2 nights. We've been a host family with this program for some years now - this is our 4th girl.
This girl is super shy and terrified to try speaking anything in English. She gets tongue-tied with simple questions. I am trying to get her to pull out her electronic translator more often but it's hard to get her to use it. We have been using Google translate on our phones.
We just can't get much enthusiasm from her - which is odd in this type of program. Normally the girls are hyper-excited. I caught her in a short sob at the breakfast table this morning - the poor thing. But because she won't say more than a word here and there, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to help her. I do know she is very jet lagged and being tired is not helping anything. We are forcing her to stay up until at least 9pm each night. She was nodding off at 7:30pm so we took her out for a short walk around the neighborhood before letting her get ready for bed at 8:30.
I'm taking her to Glo Golf tonight in the hopes of breaking the ice. I showed her pics and video and she smiled a little. I then asked if she wanted to bring a friend from the program and she said a clear "no". (I was impressed she understood what I was asking - but she was quite definite about it). Hopefully tonight will go well.
Gonna take some time I think - I just hope we'll find a way to get through and give her a fun time.
