****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

How does he do with a visual schedule? Like have everything written out with what needs to be done at what time? You can have it hanging in the bathroom so he can get himself going in the morning and then have a small copy for him to carry around with him each day. You can ask him what's next throughout the day so he kind of feels like he has control a little even though it's already planned out lol

Exactly what I planned on doing. Especially because he's way more of a night owl than I am. He wont be up for our rope-drops, so I will have a written schedule of where I'll be everyday, so he can just hop a bus when he's ready to meet us. He seems to get a little uncomfortable when he's rushed-and let's face it, it's HIS vacation too. He should be able to do what he wants and not be attached to MY schedule all the time, you know?My rule with him is only "have your cell phone CHARGED, and ON, and WITH YOU at all times.":rolleyes2

That's a great idea. :)

I always do a color-coded spreadsheet for Disney trips (since 1998! my spreadsheet technique is well-honed by now!) and a copy gets laminated and taken with us in the parks. I never really thought about it as a visual schedule until one day in line for Soarin', another dad nodded toward it and asked "Is your son on the spectrum?" He also had a son with ASD, so what is just a planning tool for me looked just like a visual schedule to him. :)

Oh, one thing I forgot...I usually have the schedule out not so we can look at the content, but because it's laminated cardstock, so t makes a great fan for hot moments! ;)

On line check in for resort #1 complete! 10 days until we leave, I have my morning mapped out including what outfits kids will wear.
Yesterday I grocery shopped I hope to last us until we leave other then milk and a farm stand stop for produce.

Today I am on the search for sunglasses- the ones with plastic arms kill my head(again, migraine issues, I am sensitive to it.) I am amazed how little summer inventory is in the stores.

Starting to wash and pack. I want it all done by tuesday.

Ill look for coffee places that sell some thing decent in parks(any thing that is not Nescafe will be a bonus.) Thankfully I am only at All Stars 2 mornings before we move so Ill take the instant and make hot water.

Now that I am so close I need to start addressing the things I have been avoiding, life after Disney:scared1: I take classes at local college and havent yet made payment(considered not continuing for many reasons or switching.) I have been avoiding thinking about it since May. Time went too fast.

We will be at POFQ from August 22-26 and our trip is a surprise for our kids too! Have you almost told them yet?

My son doesn't live at home, so no problem there. My DD I have almost told a few times but we have a weekend at the end of Sept planned (girl's trip with her BFF) to celebrate sweet 16 and a Christmas trip to celebrate DH and I 25th wedding anniversary, so I just referred to one of those trips instead.

I actually knew a girl in college(back in the stone age :rotfl2:) who didn't own any shoes that were lower than 3" heels. 3" heels is the highest I will even look at, and that is when I have to look REALLY good. See, my thought is, I am short, everybody knows it, why torture myself just for a few inches of fake height. RIGHT??? :lmao: Who's with me on this??? Anyone, Bueller, Bueller.....

Honey I am 5'1 and I totally agree with you!!!;)

I'm a tad under 5 foot.

I got these cute pjs from Avon for my trip:

http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.aspx?pf_id=45217

And a Vera Bradley lime's up backsack to carry in the parks!!! It matches our LGMH theme! :thumbsup2

Did I mention I got Mickey Mail today!:worship:

I love those PJs. I wonder if I order now if I'll get them in time.

:banana::banana: on the Mickey mail. Still waiting to hear from my TA about ours.

Check out the shirts that came in today.

Those are really cute.

Yay!! We got Mickey Mail today too! I was so excited, but waited until DH and I could open together. I love the new luggage tags! :cool1:

:banana::banana::banana:

Seeing as how we are showing our Disney PJ's I picked these up at DTD last year.

http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2011/05/15/mickey-waffle-pajama-pants-on-sale-in-walt-disney-world/

I saw them on the food blog and kept my eyes open for them in every store I went to then found them on our last day. They only had a few pairs left hidden in a back corner I was so happy when I found them.

Those are adorable.

Single digit dance!!!!!

My sweetie departs any minute from JFK to CA for meetings re: Job #2. Any positive thoughts or good vibes would be appreciated!! I expect by the time we leave for the Caribbean next Wednesday I'll know where we'll be living. :woohoo: Then I get to start the negotiations to work for my company both part time and remotely. I've been there 12 years and I'm now a co-owner, so I expect that they'll do what they can to make it work. (An explicit part of the owner expectations document is that we don't have to live in the city where the company is based.) It is going to be shocking to a lot of people, though...and I'm not really looking forward to that part. :(

Sending lots of pixie dust your way.

I'm finding it so hard to concentrate on work or anything else. 7 days to go! I haven't packed much except the toiletries, because the kids go through so many darn clothes in the summer! Wake up, swim, change, swim, change. UGH I'm so close and feel like I should be doing SOMETHING but really cant until Next week I think. My plan is to try and relax and actually get some darn work done at work before I go, do all the housework this weekend (cant leave a messy house, I have issues lol)

I have some last minute shopping to do tomorrow
Birthday party for DD7 (will be 8 when we're in Disney) on Saturday
Sunday - beach - housework Sunday night
Laundry/packing Monday
Leave Wednesday!

I swear the week before is the slowest week of my life.

Just called and upgraded to photopass plus. Quickest phone call ever - seriously less than 3 minutes!

DH found out yesterday that he's got carpal tunnel bad enough to warrant surgery. I don't know anyone that's had the surgery to ask how the recovery is. I'm pushing for him to get it done sooner rather than later because it affects him when he rides his motorcycle.

Totally forgot to quote stuff....

Cute Mickey pj's and pj pants!

pixiedust: Pixie Dust for everyone that needs it!

I hope everything goes well with your dh:)

The good news on my ds ( don't know if you remember all my worry over his feet/Severs and not being able to walk). We've rested him and stretch him out before any sports and it has made a world of difference. It was definitely exacerbated by the soccer tournament and 5 games in short time span. We haven't had any problems in a few weeks so I think we won't need wheelchair. Just good shoes, lots of stretching (it is so important) and icing in the evenings!:)

It has just finally sunk in that we leave in 30 days!!!! That is nothing!! It has been a very busy summer and for the first time I haven't spent every minute obsessing about the trip. It's absolutely flying by and I think when I finally hit pack and prepare mode it will be here in a flash:banana:

My mother and sister both had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. My sisters was more recent, and she said as long as you do what you are told, it wasn't that bad. The only downside for her is she is PT and due to her issues with carpal tunnel she can no longer give massages because of the repetitive motions can cause the carpal tunnel to reoccur.

OMG!!!! I had to go back 6 pages in order to catch up.....I wish I didn't have to work so I could respond to everyone in a timely manner!!! :lmao:

I know my park days months out. I use crowd levels, hours and events then beyond that just pick. I make ADRs around it, don't have hoppers so I need to know where I'll be. We have 2 MK days, 2 EP, 2 DHS and 1 AK them arrival/departure is resort and DTD.

I am the same way. We don't do the hoppers, so based on crowd levels, etc, I know which park we will be at on what day. I then plan ADRs around the park days.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am brand new to this site and hope I am posting correctly!
I am going to DW August 27th through September 3rd for my Honeymoon! We are staying the Beach Club resort. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! :) Have really enjoyed reading all of the posts. :)

Welcome to Team August and all the craziness that comes along with it! Make sure you get your lime green Mickey heads!!! And Team August heads! :thumbsup2

To each their own I guess. Takes all kinds to make the "World" go round :lmao: I can't imagine wearing anything but sneakers doing all that walking in Disney. So we can both think the other is a little nuts. But hey we will both be in disney so it is all good! ::yes::

Yep! I'm a sneaker girl! If I can get away with it, that's all I ever wear. I'm a diabetic and although I love to walk barefoot, I have to protect my feet against cuts as they won't heal very fast. :confused3

I work for DL so we usually non-rev down but this year I couldn't pass up the Southwest credit card/50,000 points. This was enough to get 3 round trip tickets! So we are flying out on Southwest on the 4th :)

Have a great trip! Last year we ran into a family at Epcot from Little Canada (5 min from my house) --small world :)

We did the same thing --- my hubby applied and got the SW credit card. It's such an awesome deal!!! ::yes::

OMG!!!! I love these.... and payday is on Wednesday.....:rotfl: and congrats on Mickey Mail.....I'm still waiting.....:rolleyes2

My goodness this is a fast moving group. I was not on all weekend and this post took off. LOL

I joined the fb group.

I did get insurance, to many variables plus my kids passports just came.

I spent today getting Dis designs printed for autograph books.

Tell me about it. I can't keep up with this thread and the Facebook group....you guys are all just fabulous! :worship:

Brand new to this thread. Hope I am posting right. August 5-12 at AsMusic. Does anyone know if you book a room only if you will get Mickey Mail?

Hi Brenda and welcome! This is a great group to be in. I'm thinking we are the best group in all of Disboardium......:rotfl2:

Single digit dance!!!!!

My DH officially thinks I'm insane! I spent the evening cleaning out my van and arranging and rearranging car seats and suitcases to see how things fit best. I drive a dodge grand caravan with 2-2-3 seating and I have to fit 2 adults, a 12 yr old, a 5 yr old in a booster seat, two 2 yr olds, 4 full size suitcases, 2 rolling carry-ons, a computer bag, a diaper bag, a backpack, and the double side by side stroller in there. We are going to packed in like sardines in a can :crowded: for the 3 hour drive to the airport. :scared1: Told my DH that we might have to tie a kid or two to the luggage rack. :rotfl2:

I'm panicking a little over how we are going to make it through the airport with 2 carry-ons, a computer bag, a diaper bag, 2 car seats, a booster seat, and the double stroller. Traveling was so much easier before kids.

I'm always threatening my 14 year old with that ---- tie you to the roof or the hood, just like a deer!!! I've started packing now. Toiletries mostly, but our clothes are all on a rack just waiting until the night before.

Only 4 more work days and 9 days total til we leave for Disney!!

Started getting things into piles yesterday that will need to be packed, which I will start doing this weekend. Love this thread ....adds to my obsessive excitement for our trip!

:cool1:

Yes, this is the best thread!! And only 9 more days --- YAY!!!

I hope everything goes well with your dh:)

I am soooooo glad to hear about your ds. That must be a relief for you. Yay! Are you really sure you are staying at the cabins? Really? There's still time to change your mind.... :lmao:

I just dug out my suitcase and took a look to see what all I had in there. Turns out, I had unopened travel sizes in there of all of the things I bought this weekend, LOL! Toothpaste, deodorant, mini Aveda shampoos and the whatnot. I also found our rain ponchos in there, as well as a pair of sandals I have been looking for forever. Note to self: unpack completely next time, or check the suitcase BEFORE you shop.

LOL! I have soooo done that before.

All this talk of coffee brings up my only dislike about vacations...no Tim Horton's!! Not sure how many here have Tim Horton's coffee around them but I am seriously addicted to it! Problem is, the farthest south I think I've seen em is Erie PA. :( There is one walking distance from my house, XL Triple Triple everyday (at least once a day) , so travelling is always hard without it, no other coffee tastes right lol. I've even bought their coffee and tried to brew my own and it just doesn't come out right.

I've travelled with Tims Addicts before....became an expert in spotting the nearest Tims at any point in time. Me - I just hunt down McDs...I always seem to need a smoothie when I travel.

I'm a tad under 5 foot.
.
Someone shorter than me! I'm just about 5ft even. I'm surprised we have so many shorties on this thread - usually I'm the shortest around by far.

Glad that all the stretching and icing has helped so far! Wonder if it's any different that he'll be walking/doing rides & shows all day vs. all the kicking/running they do in soccer.

Good to hear that it wasn't too bad. Bummer that it's affected your sister's career.

Wow, I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but at 5'3" I feel tall!! We aren't short, we're fun size!! (That t-shirt always cracks me up!)

I finally made an ADR!!! Ohana on August 24th at 10:05AM

Me too at 5'2"!!!! :goodvibes

OMG, lol where have you been young lady!!!!???? You should see the Team August FB page- its pretty fabulous and we had some fun last night talking about where all of us were from! I hope you get the time to visit over there-its not the same w/out U!!!:hyper:

So they called. Apparently it wasn't going to be an "ok here's the job" phone call. It was an ok come interview with the assistant superintendent. So I have to go next Tuesday at 9. So we'll see! From what my teacher said that usually means I got it. She said I was probably recommended by the other two I interviewed with so they are probably gonna offer it to me that day. She said they don't wanna waste their time lol. But I'm going to go in there ready and willing to show my skills. You never know what their intentions are with these types of things. Thanks everyone for the pixie dust!! Please send some more my way next Tuesday lol
