***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

haha I just realized that we are actually leaving the 24th not the 23rd! I don't know why but I kept thinking it was the 23rd. And DBF let me make my first dining ressie today for Sci-Fi dine in. We are doing the quick service plan and I've never gone to a restaurant at Disney. I think he will love it because he loves old cars and drive ins.

You just can't wait to leave that's all!! I've never eaten at Sci-fi either... but I've eaten at lots of Disney Restaurants. The QS plan is a nice option. You won't have to chase down your reservations, you can eat at any QS place when you want to. One of my favorite QS's is Yorkshire Fish Company at the England pavilion in EPCOT. Also at EPCOT, Tangierine Cafe in the Morocco pavilion and the Somerfest in the Germany pavilion. You really can't go wrong on food at EPCOT. In Future World there in the land pavilion is Sunshine and Seasons. A high quality choice. I'm not wild about the QS choices in MK. I like Aloha Isle and Main street Bakery for snack though. And the ice cream place next to the bakery too. popcorn::

SOOO excited!!! We're arriving July 31 but staying the first week of August. We thought we were going to have to cancel since my husband's work has been slow & we would not have been able to pay it off by June 16th. But the WONDERFUL woman I talked to on the phone was thinking of everything she could to help me out!! She came up with the idea to bring my tickets down to one day for everyone which allowed me to keep my package deal & lower my payment enough to be able to pay it by the 16th. When we get there we'll have to upgrade our tickets but we can pull that off!! Isn't that great!!! I LOVE DISNEY!!!!!:cheer2:

August 15-20. First night is at AKL, the rest are @ POP Century. AKL will be my first Deluxe stay, POP will be our first time on a dinning plan, QSDP. We are celebrating the last week of summer vacation before DH, a teacher, goes back to the classroom!

What a cool idea to spend one night at a deluxe!!! We might have to do that!!

Now that it's June 1st...we all have two months left!!!:cool1:

OMG!! With Project Graduation, My son's Eagle Court and DD7's ballet recital... I"M NOT READY!!!

I was thinking of buying a small (very small) sized dorm fridge... I think I wont be able to get a fridge swap because our arrival is a Wednesday night and our departure is a Thursday... too mid week?:confused3 We're gonna have so much stuff in the van with my son going to college AND our Disney stuff... if you see a van listing to the side or dragging in the back!! :rotfl:

Can your van tow? Maybe you want to rent a small enclosed pull behind for all your son's gear and leave it in FL? I know it costs more to leave it in a place different then you rented from, but it may be worth it not have to park it in the hotel parking lot. This way you can put in the van only the things that will be coming back with you. More room inside and probably safer too.

Best of luck to your son starting college.

Make many magical memories!

No, unfortunately only our Silverado pick-up has towing capacity. I'm just going to have to cut what we bring. Its gonna be rough because we'll be gone a total of about 2 weeks. We always bring a cooler in the van and keep it between the two middle seats (we remove the very middle seat). We can use that, we just have to keep refreshing the ice. I know Pop has ice machine's..... somewhere.... :confused3 Luckily my son has exponentially fewer things than my daughter. He won't need winter clothes, so all he needs is his shorts, t-shirts and p.j's. Maybe something nice for an occasion that could come up. A desk lamp. He's an Eagle Scout. They pack light. I'm just thinking about all the stuff we usually bring for a "just Disney" trip. Although, we always over pack. We bring food we don't need. But this trip we're staying in a value resort, so we won't bring much food. Stuff to eat in the car and cereal for breakfast. The Pop might not have my Kashi. We can always borrow my sister's Thule for the roof. We've done that before. But it cuts the gas mileage by 2 or 3 mpg. :drive:

We use one of those clam shell top things too. I don't have a tow package on my mini van either. Those top storage items really do cut down on the mileage.

For your packing, do you have the large ziploc bags or the space storage ones? I just use the ziploc 2 gallon ones because they are cheaper. You would be surprised at just how much space you can save squishing out air. :)

Also, put your ice in the baggies. This way it will be less of a mess to change the ice in your cooler. :thumbsup2 Dumping the water is not my favorite chore.

Safe travels!

When we stayed at Pop two years ago we drove too. We also brought a cooler and just used that in place of a fridge. There was an ice dispenser very close by and we refilled it daily. It worked fine for us.

That's a good idea, I will put ice in ziploc baggies. I usually put our smaller items like socks and underwear in baggies. My husband has a tendancy to re-pack my efforts and he spreads things out to fit all the spaces so he stuffs socks and underwear all over and then I can't find them. That's what happens when a boyscout leader/engineer packs. I usually need alot more space to pack the same items than he does.

If the ice dispenser is close, then that's what we'll do. If it worked for you, it can work for us. Besides, I'm in money saving mode now that I found out the actual tuition cost for Florida Tech. My DH had not given me a straight or complete answer. Needless to say.... I was like :scared1:

DH wanted to drive this year but I hate the idea. Needless to say we are FLYING.
We have too much to take to the college that we can't fly with. Plus, if we did fly, 2 weeks of rental car, plus baggage fees, its just too expensive. I love when you get those low airfares, but those days are gone. At least when my son comes home for winter break, he can leave his stuff in his dorm and return with a suitcase, thus one airfare shouldn't be too bad. I wouldn't want to have to drive him back and forth THAT many times per year!! The extra Disney visits would break the bank!! (cause... you can't go that close to Disney and NOT)! :rolleyes1

I just realized I'm not on the list on page 1 yet... Maybe I did it wrong.
