***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

I don't know if it was ever Snyder's Darien Lake, but I do know that it started out basically as a picnic area and a place to swim, so maybe... The only Darien Lake I remember (yes, I am a young'un lol), is the big theme park... Six Flags owned it for a while, but it is currently independent. There are several roller coasters, midway rides, kiddie park, and separate water park. They also have a resort hotel and campground next door. We were there for 11 hours and still did not see everything!! It was a good "dry run" for WDW :thumbsup2

Yeah... that HAS to be it. It was a picnic area, place to swim in a lake, had the Oompa (and spicy sausage)... and the campground. I'm not surprised that its grown. Maybe it was originally owned by the Snyder family.

Lots of showings of Fantasmic have been added! There are now two shows a night during our dates, on the following nights: Aug 17, 19, 22, 24. I am sure there are other dates with double shows, but this is when we will be there so it's what is written down. It is a little scary... I am guessing that WDW scheduled all the extra shows because they are expecting big crowds for the beginning of free dining.

Free dining scares me!! :scared1: but not as much as the maniacal clown slide at BoardWalk resort!

Omygosh I wont stay there just because of the clown!!:scared1: I was wondering if it was just my own weird fear. What were the Imagineers thinking?

OH NO Help! I was just checking over the Fantasmic times since there's talk about new times being added and WDW site isnt showing Fantasmic for the 29th, the day I have us scheduled to go to DHS (dont have Park Hopper), but DIS says there is a showing at 8:30 that night? I'm getting freaked out now because I've been calling a couple of times a week since I booked to try and get the package and nothing is ever available. But they havent told me there isnt a show??? I have yet to see Fantasmic and figured touring days and ADRs based on it. Darn!

I couldn't get one for my August trip but have one for November. Now that I hear they're adding them late in the evening, I'm hoping that means they will be less crowded :confused3. People who aren't night owls tend to be gone by then. I'm hoping maybe to do a stand-by wait on that one.

I think it's great that they are adding times and hope the same thing! I can't believe I just totally swapped days around to see it! I was planing on EP for the 24th with ADR at Marrakesh, so I moved that to the 29th and am now going to DHS. I am going to call tomorrow AM to see if I can get the Package if not I'm going to try what you plan on and do a walk up. Lucky DHS is a quick touring park so I can rest the boys during the day and maybe get to the later showing?? Who knows :confused3

Just when you think you have it all planned out

I cancelled our Fantastmic! dinner package awhile ago because I don't think my children will last that late. :confused3 Maybe with the extra shows we can try to see it....
One month from today!!! (My ticker's off by one day because we changed our plans and I didn't want my ticker to start over again! :rotfl2: )

Actually, the added show is at 10:30p...

Less than a month away!! Leaving on the 17th. So excited. :) I just went and bought a lot of new clothes to wear on the trip and even some shorts for DBF. :) Now I just need to figure out what kind of shoes to get him to wear. He doesn't like flip flops so I was thinking he should bring one pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals..

Would he like a pair of Keens? or perhaps LLBean Explorer Sandals. I wear the LLBean Explorer Sandals and I can walk in them all day. DH wears Keens. They're very similar shoe/sandals but the Keens run a little too wide for my narrowish feet. They go with shorts or khakis for guys. I wouldn't really choose them to wear with a dress or sundress, I'd go for more of a sandal, but you could actually.

We've had an unexpected trip kind of fall in our laps! We had planned a Florida beach trip for May, but had to cancel because my brother had to have emergency surgery. Since then, we've been debating and debating for when to re-schedule, and decided on 5 days in Orlando! Woo-hoo! Leaving August 30th, and staying off-site in a condo since we can't all cram into one room. Excited! :woohoo:

We'd originally planned our 3rd trip to WDW for April 2011. School schedules looked like they might conflict, so we decided to go during Christmas. On a lark, I checked availability and found a week in August when we could all go and the trip + airfare prices were great, so here we come! :cool1:

We'll be in All Star Movies 8/21 - 8/28. Hope to see you all there!

Dave

DH's long awaited payday arrived today (the 3 weekend pay period just wasn't so much fun). So I took advantage and decided to trek out with my boys to get some things we needed for our trip. I can't believe how much money I spent! Though I must admit that I got some fabulous sales, and a portion of today's purchases was for groceries and things we've been needing. Still......I crossed lots of things off my pre-Dis shopping list!

So what did I get? I'm sure you are on the edge of your seats wondering, and this is just the place I can share!

First I got Crocs for my boys. I was debating since they are $30 a pair (no "knock off" crocs around here these days ). I decided to go for it since it would be worth them not complaining and having blisters. GOOD NEWS! When I went to pay I found out they were buy 1 get 1 half off at Dick's Sporting Goods!!!! It wasn't advertised. Just a wonderful surprise! I also got a stick of Body Glide. Never used it before, but hoping it will be great for the trip.

So what else did I get? A pack of socks and a pack of underwear for each of my boys and DH. They'll be glad I shared that. :lmao: By the way, at Walmart I got a 4 pack for $9. At Target I found a BONUS 6 pack of the same ones for $9.75. Needless to say, I'll be heading back to Walmart to make a return!

I also got tapes for the video camera, a fanny pack for the boys (they plan to share it and switch off days wearing it, but I'm guessing one will like wearing it more than the other, and they'll end up wearing it every day), chapstick, Bonine, gum for each DS for their airplane packs, band-aids, another pair of shorts for each DS, and shoe gel insoles for my DH's tennis shoes (decided it would be better for him to wear the broken in ones with a pair of new gel insoles rather than buying new leather tennies since our trip is only 3 weeks away and he works in an office where tennis shoes are not in the dress code - even if you are prepping for a trip to Disney and need to break them in. Some people just don't understand. :rotfl2:). Oh, and a misting fan (shhhh, don't tell DH, he thinks I'm crazy!).

I also bought a new skirt. It's casual, but nice. I'll be at a 3 day conference before our family vacation part of our trip. There is a "dressy" night. I decided a skirt and blouse would be nice for the Florida temps, and I found an inexpensive skirt that will travel well, and go with just about everything I own!

Okay, that's all for now. Thanks for letting me share!
3 Weeks from tomorrow we'll be on the plane!!!!

Are you the gal who said she was going to a Tupperware conference? My DD22 is a new Tupperware consultant and I know that she does know about this conference.

I have to make a return today at Wal-mart too, but mine is a sunshield for our truck. It said jumbo was the size for a Silverado, and you'd think!.... but its too tall for the windshield! I'd rather go to Target, but I want to do one stop and they're in opposite directions. I'll have to grocery and sundry shop at Wally World.

I don't know why you can't wear tennis shoes with a business suit or other business attire, people in Washington DC do it ALL the time!! Course, they "might" change their shoes after they arrive at the office.... but I'm betting that many who do alot of walking between cubicles leave em' on... they certainly are in them at lunch... its a whole new look for our government!! :rotfl2:

OOO thx for the info I need new Crocs I wonder if the Dick's by me has the same sale??

I also got a stick of Body Glide. Never used it before, but hoping it will be great for the trip.

If you chafe even alittle you'll LOVE it! I pretty much put it everywhere :rotfl2: I wore a backpack with a tank top and put it on my arms where the straps (they were not padded completely) were "just encase" never had a problem even though they did rub! That was unexpected but I was glad I had the Body Glide to take care of it!

Oh, and a misting fan (shhhh, don't tell DH, he thinks I'm crazy!).

:lmao: He'll be glad you have it when your waiting on line for BTMRR in the Aug heat! :rotfl: (actually I'm taking your que and getting one too!)

3 Weeks from tomorrow we'll be on the plane!!!!

YEY SO EXCITING!!!! :yay:
