***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

I didn't quote this right, but my answers are in red :)

-Should I buy the $30 Crocs for DS8 & DS10 to wear, or figure out another footwear option for them?

We bought Crocs for all three of us, wore them twice, don't think i can do it. DD loves them (taking them for her main shoes), DH won't even try them on...

- What will count as a "personal item" for the plane. We're hoping to pack 2 large suitcases ($25 each, each way), and then each bring a carry-on and a personal item (free).

Personal items are like a backpack, diaper bag, purse, or laptop case

- Should I use anti-perspirant on our feet? Or body glide? Or powder? Or nothing????

:lmao: I pan on using all of the above... all at the same time

Today I decided to bring my 2 new pair of super comfy super cushy flip flops, and then to bring my crocs for "emergency shoes" rather than bringing tennis shoes which I never wear. I'm hoping it's a good decision.

Sounds like a good plan! :thumbsup2

Yes

Now the problem with that is since it's paid in full, it'll be easier to justify spending even more since everything else is paid

:rotfl2::rotfl: me too!!! My trip is pay in full as of 7/10 and boy oh boy it'll be hard not to spend all the 'spending $$' we bring!

We are planning MK that day! My DD5 has a BBB appt at 2:30 and we have dinner res at CRT at 5:30

:woohoo:woo hoo!! If I had girlies we'd so be at BBB! :thumbsup2 I've thought about taking the boys to get Pirated up but cant justify spending $100 on face paint in 100 degree heat. I think it would melt of the sec we walk out! We have an early ADR at CRT that day @ 3:40! We'll be leaving as you come in :) I figured since we are eating so early we'll be ready for a snack. Maybe we'll see each other?

Then last night on the Disboards I saw a link for the DL 55th anniversary flash mob. I watched it and got all teary. Watched it again, more tears. I'm so excited for our trip!

I get the same way for each trip. I still remember things from my first trip. Dont worry each trip is magical in its own unique way!

Even though I've been planning and planning, there's still much to decide. :confused3
-Should I buy the $30 Crocs for DS8 & DS10 to wear, or figure out another footwear option for them?

I love Crocs, I wear them all year. In winter I get the Mamoths. So I wear them to Disney too. I found for me though that the regular Crocs can rub the top of my foot. So I bring Mole Skins (a lifesaver!). I know most ppl say this is a big NO NO but my feet are use to it, I wear the Croc Flip Flops too. Actually I prefer them. BUT like I said my feet are use to wearing them all summer here, so wearing them touring is no change for my feet. So I guess what I'm saying is wear what your use to wearing and bing Mole Skins (check kids feet regularly they arent very good at telling about "hot spots" on the feet!!).

-Should I try to get any lunch or dinner ADR's? We have the counter service free dining, and plan to have 2 sit down bfasts (hubby's request).

If your DH wants a Sit Down Breakfast or Lunch at any Restaurant then its highly recommended you have ADR's!!! I did the same for my DH who loves the breakfast buffets and the only one available on the day we could go was Cape May Cafe (I wanted Chef Mickey's).

- Should I use anti-perspirant on our feet? Or body glide? Or powder? Or nothing????

I LOVE BODY GLIDE!!! I can get chafing from the heat. I get NO chafing when I use body glide!!! I would never leave home without in :rotfl:

Decisions, decisions, decisions.........

tell me about it!! :rotfl2:

Only 24 days for me!

YEY ENJOY!!!!:dance3:

Also what do you pack to entertain the kids while waiting in lines? I have DDs 6 & 1 and don't want the trip to be all about lines, so if I could make take things to do and make that time go fater I would.

Noelle

I've been thinking the same thing! I read in the Unofficial Guide that one person can wait in line while the other sits out with the kids (going to the restroom or getting a snack) and when the person online gets close get online with them. I have not acutally tried this yet so I dont know how well it is accepted??? The book said it is usually accepted as long as the kids are young and its only one adult. I'd love to hear from others that have done this!

I understand that you're wanting to keep the kids busy but I don't think the people in line would be very understanding. If you are concerned with how the kids will do while waiting take full advantage of fast pass which pretty much eliminates waits.

I didnt try it last trip, because I would never want to appear rude. We did use Fastpass if the wait was ridiculous. Thx for your imput. I put it out there because I wanted to hear how ppl would think if this acutally happened to them and if anyone actually tried this!

Well I'm about 28 days out and I still haven't received anything, should I start to panic yet? I know I won't be getting anything from DME because we opted to drive, but shouldn't I be getting something else in the mail?

Just when I think I have everything under control for this trip I start thinking of more things to plan. For one I don't have much snacks planned, just some peanut butter crackers for the plane. DH says he doesn't want to pack snacks, that we will buy Disney food. But I was thinking it might come in handy. Also what do you pack to entertain the kids while waiting in lines? I've heard that a lot of people pack the little bottles of bubbles to keep kids entertained in line. I've never used them, but I'm sure it would keep them amused for a bit anyway!

I've starting my countdown shopping spree! :lmao: Spent lots of $$$ at Target this past weekend to get all the little trip necessities (antibacterial hand cleaner, markers and crayons, extra batteries, hand wipes, travel-sized tissues, travel toothpaste, etc.). Still have a few things left to buy/do. Luckily/sadly I still have 1 month (and 2 days) before my trip!
Totally having the pre-trip meltdown. Just found out that my DH needs to go to Dallas (for work) August 20th and 21st. We're leaving for Disney the afternoon of 8/21. I'm now flying alone with 3 little kids (6, 4, and 2) and he's meeting us in Orlando. Yikes! Thank goodness for Magical Express!!!

My family has seen some people get really ugly waiting in line :sad2: and I'd hate for anything like that to spoil your vacation! :goodvibes

My DH is not a line person so I totally get it. I love these boards and now am totally addicted to DIS Boards as much as Disney (well almost :rotfl:) everyone one here is so helpful!

I SERIOUSLY laughed right out loud when I read that answer! :rotfl:

I just noticed that Fantasmic! has added show the week I am there (8/14-8/19). They added a 10:30p show!

We weren't planning on going to Fantasmic, but if they have 2 shows maybe we'll try to hit one of the later ones. Thanks for the update! I'll have to check all the times & dates again.

SO FUN to be in a thread with all of you who are in a similar count down to me! It's sure getting closer now!!!!!:cool1:

This sounds like such a great idea! Too bad DS loves them for 5 minutes and then dumps them out. It doesn't bother me too much because I make sure to only buy the $.50 bubbles bottles because of this, but I can only imagine what people in line will say/do if they get bubbles spilled on them. Maybe I'll try it out anyway though. :confused3

Oh yes, Target has made some $$$$ from me getting ready for Disney. I love the store regardless but I've definitely gotten a lot of pre-trip stuff there. I did get some toys for the plane at the Dollar Store, but Target has definitely been great for most things. Especially the dollar area in the front of the store! DH always rolls his eyes when we walk in because I make a bee line for that part of the store and somehow manage to stay there for like 10 minutes finding the most random stuff that we "need." :lmao:

what is body glide?

1 month and a wake up till we leave!

I've never used it (yet) but I've heard about it and seen it in the stores. It is an anti-chafing product. I've seen it in a stick like anti-perspirant, and also in a little bottle. Not sure which is better to use. I hear that runners and all kinds of people use it to prevent chafing. It's near $10 for a thing of it, but I suppose that it would be WELL worth it to prevent Disney in August chafing issues that can occur!

I noticed you mentioned in a previous post... Darien Lake. My Aunt and Uncle lived in Buffalo and when I was a child in the late 60's early 70's we would visit them in their trailer campsite at a "park" called Snyder's Darien Lake. It just had a club house with a buffet and an Oompa band... a lake to swim in. Nothing fancy. Is this the same place? Did 6 flags buy it or something?

I don't know if it was ever Snyder's Darien Lake, but I do know that it started out basically as a picnic area and a place to swim, so maybe... The only Darien Lake I remember (yes, I am a young'un lol), is the big theme park... Six Flags owned it for a while, but it is currently independent. There are several roller coasters, midway rides, kiddie park, and separate water park. They also have a resort hotel and campground next door. We were there for 11 hours and still did not see everything!! It was a good "dry run" for WDW :thumbsup2

Lots of showings of Fantasmic have been added! There are now two shows a night during our dates, on the following nights: Aug 17, 19, 22, 24. I am sure there are other dates with double shows, but this is when we will be there so it's what is written down. It is a little scary... I am guessing that WDW scheduled all the extra shows because they are expecting big crowds for the beginning of free dining.
