***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

You're good! We are doing the dining plan because we like sitting down for a "real" meal. We'd probably eat at least one sit-down meal per day with or without the dining plan.

I need to figure out which nights we're going to do which meal but here are a few that I'm considering: Norway (princess dinner), The Garden Grill, Cape May Cafe (+/-), Teppan Edo. My DH and I will probably eat at Bluezoo one night and get a babysitter. That's not on the dining plan so we can have at least one sit-down breakfast or lunch. Maybe Liberty Tree Tavern? I still need to pick a few more places!
Suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks. :)

We did the whole sit down every night for the first two trips. My family got pretty upset with me for the whole "scheduled" thing. :confused3 Gosh, it's not like I had it planned down to the minute. Hour maybe, but not minute. :rotfl2:

So we compromised this trip. They have to do rope drop every morning and stick to my plan until lunch. After the resort break - they get to pick. And they are the ones who picked those ADRs.

I'm hoping for a much more relaxed trip this time around.

Picking apart your ADRs. :teeth:

Norway - very good for Princesses
Garden Grill - my boys really liked it, but a lot of folks don't. I thought food fine, not great, but totally edible.
Cape May Cafe - good for breakfast characters, not so great for dinner.
Teppan Edo - Heard lots of good things and lots of just okay things. You will have to tell me what you think. :thumbsup2
Liberty Tree Tavern - doesn't have characters anymore. Food is served family style and is hit or miss. Sometimes it is good and others it is dried out.

Are you looking for character interaction? Chef Mickey's is good for that and the food is not bad for a buffet. 1900 Park Fare dinner with the Step Sisters is hilarious. And I'm pretty partial to the Strawberry Soup. Ohana has a good breakfast with Lilo and Stitch.

We don't do much breakfast because of the rope drop thing. The only disappointing meals we had were Coral Reef - the steak was gross for me, but the fish was great for everyone else and Cape May Cafe, I must have gotten an off night. None of us liked what we picked from the buffet.

YMMV

Don't forget that we'll all be coming up on our 180 day mark this month so you'll be able to make your dining reservations![/QUOTE said:

Thanks for your input!
We've done 1900 Park Fare and Norway. I really enjoyed both. Prince Charming was so good with my kids! I thought we'd have to lock my daughter up until her wedding. :rotfl2: I asked my daughter which one she liked better and she wanted Norway. She's the only girl so she gets to pick!

We're staying at BCV so we could do Cape May for breakfast. I don't love breakfasts. My husband and kids don't eat any pork products so they really miss out on all of that yummy breakfast meat. And we have a kitchen so it's easy to cook some eggs for everyone.

I've read mixed reviews of both Garden Grill and Teppan Edo, too. I want to try so new things so I figured we'd give it a whirl.

Is Liberty Tree Tavern family style for lunch? We were there last May and ordered off a menu (for lunch). The food was surprisingly good but things change so quickly!

I didn't love Chef Mickey's but I know it's a staple with the preschool crowd (which includes us!).

How is that microbrewery on the Boardwalk (Big River Grille or something?)? Should we add Le Cellier to our list?

Amanda

Ok all you people talking about your ADRs and where you might want to eat, is making me want the regular Dining Plan! But I'm going solo and a) didn't think I'd want to do a sit-down meal by myself, and b) didn't want to be tied to a schedule this time around.

But I miss the whole ADR and planning thing!!

It was a toss up between Le Chef de France and Le Cellier for my eldest. But we have decent steakhouses near here and he really wants to try escargo. I am not ever going to try making that at home. :lmao:

The menu for lunch at the BRG looks yummy. Maybe I can talk my family into one more ADR. :rolleyes1 Maybe I just don't tell them. :thumbsup2

Can I pick apart your ADRs too?

I don't see a really bad one there. :thumbsup2

The Coral Reef was pretty icky, but if you stay away from the steak, it should be okay. The kid's Mahi Mahi was excellent and their dessert was pretty cool. The atmosphere is like nothing else, so it was worth it for that. :)

I loved the apps at the Sci-Fi and my kids wanted to sit through the movie shorts again. :rotfl2:

We lucked out with Prime Time. Our waiter was kinda of a dud in the beginning, but then he really got in to it. Brought my DH's green beans back with whipped cream for his dessert. :rotfl2: My DH is super shy in public, but even he was having fun with the elbows on the table. My boys love that memory. I liked the meatloaf the best. It is down home cooking. Comfort food.

We have a 7:15 at Rose & Crown, also hoping for the Illuminations show. We did that our first trip and lucked out with outside seating. I couldn't get an ADR for our second trip. I'm so happy I got one this time.

We picked Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic! package also. Nothing against Hollywood & Vine, but I didn't want to do a buffet this time around. I figure, how bad can Mama mess up Italian food? :confused3 Can it be worse than Olive Garden? :rotfl2: OG is okay, but it's not family Italian cooking.

Have super time. Would love to hear about the HDDR if you go. :)

We ate at Le Chef de France last year. Our former au pair was working there for a year and got us the best table in the house! It was a nice experience but I want to try something new. We live in the suburbs of NYC so we have fabulous dining at home. And the Disney prices don't scare us! :rotfl2:

Thanks for your input! I literally just laughed out loud about the green beans with whipped cream! :rotfl2: Oh that must have been priceless!!!

I agree on Mama Melrose, just didn't want to do the buffet this time as much. My last trip was ALL buffets and it got old fast! I never get to sit down, I am always escorting someone back up for more food!:worship: Even my thirteen year old, he went up at a buffet and came back with a BOWL full of M&M's!

Add me, please! We're going Aug. 19-29 and are bringing DS for his first trip!!! Luckily for us, he'll only be one and free (other than plane tickets). DD11, on the other hand, is celebrating her first (expensive) trip as an "adult" at Disney. :lmao:

I have a question about the free dining. We are booked for the quick-service this trip since it's our first trip together and he doesn't care whether we go to restaurants or not (hopefully if he loves it that will be in a later trip ;) )
When do they usually announce it? And we have to call right away to reserve it right? :)

End of March it should be announced.

Yes - you want to call ASAP to get the resort you want. :thumbsup2
