Sometimes less is more. "I Will Always Love You" is actually a really pretty song but Whitney's version is so over the top and "big" that it becomes more about Whitney than the song itself. Dolly's original version is more subtle and you really get the feeling behind it. I like her version much better!

As I remember Dolly would sing it on a little porch swing... can you imagine Whitney singing her blockbuster like that?

I used to watch a little silly show Dolly had WAAAAY back in the day (1976) that she would end the show singing that song... I thought it was just BEAUTIFUL. I never really liked Whitney's version because I loved that one so much!

In DC's studio version, it seems like he wants it to be??

I think that version is the opposite of MJ's. MJ's version was more like some beautiful girl stalking him but in DC's version, everyone else was in love with Billie Jean and he was the lucky one, or not so lucky one I suppose. YMMV
