Some are saying they vote strictly on voice. I think it's really a little more than that, my favorites are based on performance. That would encompass the whole package- appearance, attitude, voice, charisma, versatility. Lots of factors play into what makes a good and popular performer, not just voice. If they're not likable and entertaining to watch, how successful will they really be?

Exactly! That's my problem with Scott. His voice may be good (although I'd dispute that), but he is so BORING onstage. We like singers because they are able to connect with their audience via their performances.

This is my issue with Carrie, as well. She has a great voice, but she's lacking something onstage.

I'll be voting for Vonzell from now on (if I vote at all - I'm not really good about that). Not that I think she's gonna win, but I think she's got a pretty good voice and she's fun to watch.

I guess I may get bashed for this one. I have watched the show from night 1, and I always check this thread on Wednesday and Thursday to read the feedback. I think I have only replied once or twice, though. I have to comment on this that was originally stated by snoopy:

My problem with him is not that he looks like a big mean Teletubby. Its that when he sings, he shows ZERO emotion, which I think is critical for a singer. Not only does a good singer have to sing well, but they have to know how to interpret lyrics to make the audience feel something.....when Scott sings, I feel nothing. He looks exactly like he did when he "posed" for his mug shot, empty.

Now, I agree with the fact that Scott does not show emotion. He really doesn't put on a "show." However,I would like to state my opinion about another contestant with that same issue. Personally, I don't think Carrie really puts on a "show" when she performs, either. Don't get me wrong. I lover her voice and I think she is beautiful. I have voted for her several nights. However, I don't think she shows much more feeling in her performances than Scott. I think she sings better than Scott, but I don't think she "shows" more. Well, let me say........excluding this week's performance. She definitely put a lot more emotion and show into Tuesday night's song. Overall, in all of her other performances, she has just sung and shaken her hips side to side. There isn't much movement or emotion. I do think that she will be one of the top, if not THE AI.

Ever seen Martina McBride in concert ? She's not exactly putting on a Kiss (or even a Garth Brooks) stageshow. She just has one of the most pure and beautiful voices in the music industry.

There's nothing "boring"' about listening to incredible talent, and Carrie has that in spades. If this were purely a radio show, there is nobody else in the competition that could even come close to matching her.

That being said, I was very angry about last night's bottom 3. There is no way that Nadia and Bo had less votes than Scott. They both have such big fan bases. When it came down to Nadia and Bo, I was glad it was Bo that stayed because I liked him better out of the two. But there is no reason that it should have been Nadia tonight! She seemed like such a nice girl and she was a very good singer, and she could have easily been one of the top 2 (just like I think everyone else in the top 8 besides Scott could easily make it there, since the remaining contestants are all very good).

...it IS possible that Nadia and Bo had less votes than Scott! If the viewers at home are believing (now this HAS happened in the past) : "Oh, I don't have to vote for 'so-and-so', they were AWESOME tonight, they will DEFINITELY not get voted off...." so this mentality of believing that one own's vote isn't gonna count lets the 'underdogs' or the less compitant contestants wind up with MORE votes [regardless of whether they deserve it or not!]....

I'm not saying Carrie couldn't be popular. And don't get me wrong, I like her. The problem is when I compare her to other Idols like Kelly Clarkson and even Fantasia. Personally, I really like Kelly Clarkson - I think she's got a great voice and has some presence and fun onstage. While I despise Fantasia's voice, you gotta admit that she holds your attention. Remember last week's kicking and screaming fiasco? You gotta admit that you remember her.

That's my issue with Carrie. Great voice, but nothing memorable. That's Ruben's problem. He's like a dead weight onstage and I think people long for something more than just a good voice (not that I think Ruben has a good voice...). They want to feel a connection and they want to feel that the singers have a connection to the words they're singing.

I just don't feel that with Carrie.

Wait a min....who is Jim Varraros? What season was he on? I honestly don't remember him. If he was on Season 1 then I wouldn't know him b/c I only saw the last 2 shows of that season. Someone please refresh my memory. Was he in the top 10 or 12?

So if your a Scott fan - do you normally like the type of songs he chooses.
Same with Bo or Constantine fans - so you normally like artists who have a little more grit?

Normally? I love pop rock. I like the harder stuff too and am finding that, as I get older, I'm getting more of a taste for it. I recently discovered Stone Temple Pilots for example. 10 years ago, I'd have said they were horrible. Now, they're pretty good.

MOST (but not all) Scott's song choices are song that I like. He just does horrible renditions of them.

As for Bo and Constantine... both of them have a presence on stage. They both know how to work the crowd, play up the sexy part and sing well (though, admittedly, not the best in the world. But honestly, its not all about voice. This is American Idol it's NOT Best American Voice. And it takes alot more than just a good voice to be an Idol).

I think that Bo and Constantine are what I am looking for in an Idol or any star for that matter.

I loath Brittney Spears for example, but she's still got that commanding presence. She can still dance and she has a passable voice.

If you're just going to be like everyone else off the street (like Scott, Anthony and Carrie) with a nice voice, then I could care less.

does anyone know what next weeks theme is??? and does anyone have the song list for the new AI cd ? these 1 hr shows on wednesdays got to go...the videos and the group numbers are so cheesy...and one more time Ryan says "AFTER THE BREAK" will drive me crazy!!!

Personally, it's the rock thing for me. I'm a displaced "head banger" from the 80's - loved all the 80's hard rock bands so when I saw Constantine audition he grabbed my attention right away. Then I heard him sing and well I was hooked, when he mentioned that he had a rock band, I found them and ordered a CD. I love the music he sings, I love the theatrical touch he puts into each performance, I just love to watch/hear him perform. Love the way he plays to the camera - that's HOT!!!

I would NOT be heartbroken if he doesn't win, in fact, I kind of want him to not win Idol so he will continue with the band and maybe do some more musicials. I would hate it if he won Idol and they tried to change him in any way or make him into something he's not - know what I mean???

I'm shocked so many people like Scott's voice. He is off key and has a weak voice, IMHO. Plus his attitude STINKS. He insuled everyone and people still vote for him.

Oh well. Nadia gone.. she was the most fun to watch. I now hope Scott wins and shows what a farce the voting system is. They really need to limit it to 1 vote per phone #. But that won't happen since they seem to like saying how many votes they got.. as if that means the show is more popular because they had 5 times the number of votes than viewers.

I didn't think Bo came across as arrogant, just that he didn't give a hoot. That bothers me because the others are up there really giving their all, and he is just phoning in his performances. I can't stand that kind of attitude. He is right though, he will be fine with or without the Idol title, so why give it to him? There are others who do deserve it and are really doing everything they can to shine. It is one of those people who deserve the title.

He doesn't need AI anymore. Kinder to just let him go. I'll bet his rocker friends and fans are giving him a hard way to go about this.
