If by professional, you mean they get paid to sing, then no, that has never been something to prevent one from auditioning. Last season, we had the girl who worked as a singer on the DCL.

I think they can't have recording contracts or something like that.

Ok, im just going to say it....I don't like Janis Joplin...LOL
I just think she has a nails on the chalkboard voice (my opinion) but I did LOVE Melissa Etheridge's version of the song, that was awesome.

I thought Carrie did a great job of the Faith Hill version of Piece of my heart.

I TOTALLY agree with you! Melissa rocks!!!

I also thought that Carrie did a good job, and probably didn't know that the song was done by Janis. Lets face it, Janis is even a little before my time, and I am 42 (I think I was maybe 6 or 8 when she did that song... why is a 20 year old going to know who she is, especially one who has immersed herself into the country music genre?

If I remember from last year, they can't have any contracts or be signed with a manager. A story I heard on a radio program last year talked about a girl that made it through to Hollywood and her contract with her manager had 3 months left on it. The manager wouldn't let her out of her contract so she had to turn down Idol.

I remember that. And something like almost that happened this year. The white twin brother. The ones that Simon did not like, but then one of them finally made it to Hollywood, only to be cut.

Well, they had put out an album some time ago, with an indi lable. And some questions were raised. But since at the time of trying out, they were not under contract with any one, (record co, or manager) the one that made it to Hollywood could continue to compete.

there was a situation with kelly clarkson when she was a finalist.
she recorded a cd to help her career. she did not have a contract with any recording studios so the issue was dropped.
does anyone else besides me remember that conflict??

I remember that! But it was quickly dropped.

Am I the only one who refuses to watch the Wednesday night show where they pick the winners? It just seems unnecessarily cruel to me, the way they leave them hanging. I saw clips of last week's letdown, that was enough for me. Can't watch that again. I'll find out about it tomorrow when I log into the DIS, I guess. :p

I don't want to watch it either. It's way too vicious IMO. I'll just watch Lost and then wait for DISers to discuss it. ;)

not me.................i rather watch it first hand than read about it on the website.

I hope Janay is gone, I can't stand to watch her sing because she always has that "deer in headlights" look !

Well, my dd, 11, is running around the house yelling that she is going to murder her best friend. Why? Because her best friend was in S. Calif. last week, visiting her big brother. She was staying in a small hotel. Seems that the AI kids were staying there also!!! I guess her friend rode up and down in the elevator with some of the kids and got to have a really nice talk with both Constantine and Anwar!! My poor dd, she's trying to be happy for her friend but she's just so jealous!!! So, guess who she wants to win it all? Yep, either one of those guys. We'll see.

Just a heads up -- the Wednesday shows are only going to be 30 minutes long now, thank goodness. I wasn't going to watch if it was an hour tonight, but with it only being 30 minutes, I think I actually might watch.

Thanks! I didn't know that. So what time will it be coming on then? Will it still come on at 9/8 central? Or did they change it since it is only 30 min. long now?

almost time for AI.........it starts 8:00 cst........

i'm all set for the show.i called dibbs on the best seat in the family room ................

Looks like they listened to feedback from the public. I'm sad that she was cut, but they did it in a much nicer way and didn't make her sing. Much better!!

so they aren't showing it here until 11:00 b/c of a college BB game - who got cut?

WOW....I kind of expected the first cut, but the second one was a shock. I agree with the judges, there are several others that should have been cut first.
