Official 50mm Lens Thread (For All DISers!)

I am going to post some photos with some reluctance. The 50mm is a great lens and can give some individuals that little extra advantage when you have old, out-dated cameras. By shootimg with a faster lens, I can still keep the ISO at lower levels. I'm talking about the term NOISE. Warning these photos are noisy!!!!

This is from a 4 1/2 year old camera w/ a 20 year old Minolta lens.......Sony Alpha 100...

I really like my 50 mm f/1.8 though I've only had it a couple months!

I have the Canon f/1.8 50mm - the cheap plastic version. I rarely use it. Here are a few that I dug up from my archives:

Is that Double Dark chocolate???

And the rest of the pics great too! I especially like the 2nd one.

Maybe- that sounds like something I'd order. ;) Thanks.

Having recently obtained Nikon's 50mm f/1.2 AIS, I searched and searched and searched to find a thread that I know Jeff had started in the past and John had added to---but I can't find it anywhere.

You are making me miss my 50/1.2- here are a few taken with it.

Great thread idea.. my 50/1.4 has been getting neglected lately but I saw this thread a few days ago and decided it needed some love.

All taken at f/1.7, ISO 800-1600..

Man, I wish I had know more about photography when my kids were babies! Or had some decent lenses... or even been digital!

Beautiful shots Code! (The kids are pretty cute too!) :goodvibes

What happened to your 50mm f/1.2?

Sold it- I think at one time I had like 5x 50mm lenses. Now I'm down to two- the Sigma and a manual focus 50/1.8 pancake lens that stays on an old film camera.

Mainly why I love my 50.

Nightime ambient light(on D80) no flash ISO 1600 f/2.0 ss 1/20 YES 20 LOL I dunno how she was extra still and I had an extra steady hand I guess.

That's my "try" at skin tone balance so far its been a HUGE learning curve for me. Perhaps when I get calibrated monitor it will help but so far its been struggle. Plus dd has baby porcelain skin and any attempt by me to "warm" her skin up leads to casts and unnatural(to me) tanned look.

Anyway I just love the low light capabilities for snapshots around the home. :thumbsup2

Its great outside and I've got some pretty creamy bokeh off my 1.8. ;)

One of my absolute favs with my 50 1.8 if I could just get the color balanced.

From our trip to MK in June 09 a Disney related if you can forgive my horrible exposure and that I totally chopped the top off the castle. :guilty: I so need something nice and wide next time. And less humidity hair. It was so horribly humid(and we lived there then so were used to it) that I only took about 6 photos other than this. I'm so upset it was a once in a lifetime situation where my best friend and her family were visiting and I'm so sad I didn't capture more of our "half" day Fortunately DL is 6 hours away and we are planning to take a trip together this year. I had left early around 5pm(long story) but at least dd stayed along with my friends and attended Busch Gardens, Clearwater Beach, the Sea World's Aquatica, and Kennedy Space Center with them. Hey it was only $10 more than I would have paid the babysitter for those in between days only(not MK and Sea World). I had to work but met up with them for their last day at Sea World. Took tons of photos there.
