Official 2024 Universal Studios HHN 33 Thread

It's been a couple years since we have been at HHN, where are the holding areas located? We have only ever been in the one in the NY area by Jimmy Fallon. What restaurants are open so that we can wait there instead? DH gets very anxious in the penned areas, thinking waiting it out at a restaurant might be a better experience.

I know Finnegan's was an option in the past, but no reservations are available so not sure if that's no longer an option or if they just don't take reservations after 2pm on HHN days.

Leaky Cauldron doesn't take reservations - is it open during the transition time?

Is Lombards an option? It appears they take reservations but wondering if there is a reason why there are still some available.

In previous years they had a character meal at Mel's and though we could try that this time, but looks like that is no longer offered?

Normally when we have been to USO or HHN we do a quick meal - looking to appreciate a restaurant if it is worth it this time.

Looking forward to your suggestions!
Lombards will put you at the World Expo/MIB Stay & Scream. They may let people into Fast Food Blvd in Springfield too. Diagon Alley is not open during Stay & Scream. So no to Leaky Cauldron. Mel’s hasn’t been open during S&S as far as I remember. Maybe you were thinking of Monsters Cafe, which closed and became Minion’s Cafe. Today Cafe area is another holding pen, but it doesn’t let out directly to a house. Not sure if Today Cafe itself will be open. Finnegan’s is pretty much waitlist in the afternoon.

Im hoping maybe since it was a TM preview they didn't have everyone out in scarezones. But we'll find out soon
Did see another TM video and there were many more SAs in Hollywood - almost too many - so that is a good thing .

The SAs at the HHN bar looked pretty cool as well - I really wish we had gotten that punk 80s themed scare zone - especially since as even the TMs said that is really the mascot this year.

On a third TM video - they did all 10 houses and one of their complaints was lack of staff in a couple of them - wont say much more if you want to see it its on you tube..

Its still to early to judge houses as the folks have not jelled yet and things do get better as the event goes on.
Same for scare zones - in the past stuff seems to get added every day for the first few weeks and they tend to get better and better.

Finnegan’s was open last year during stay and scream just as I expect them to be this year.
Just to mention it - you really cant just drink at the bar - they want you to buy a drink and get out. I was there about 1PM and at some point they took all the stools except mine. Then they came for my stool. They also stopped serving food around 2PM at the bar. We were allowed to stand at the back bar - which is an improvement from a few years ago.

Diagon Alley is not open during Stay & Scream.
Yeah that was a very short lived stay and scream, but was great since you had the bar and the ice cream and the air conditioned alley

You might be right...maybe it was Monster's Cafe. I remember that there was a dining package that you could purchase to eat there and I believe there were some "characters" that would walk around.

Based on the map it looks like Lombards is close to Triplets of Terror so maybe we can start with that one and then work our way around.

What is the preference to start near the back (Simpsons) S&S area and work your way around or the NY (Fallon) area and then start near the front and work your way around?

They had that at Monsters cafe and after that closed they had it at Louie's for at least one year.

Triplets of terror is next to the tribute store - so NY S&S.

I haven't read the replies so I apologize if this is duplicate.

I had a 4pm reservation at Finnegans and they canceled it. I get the sense their may be a period they wont be open.

Diagon Alley isn't open during S&S, so that will not be an option

I feel like they're doing S&S slightly different this year. For the NY S&S you enter at Minions Cafe, and I think they're gonna hold out in that park area.

The other one you enter at Lombards and go to World Expo area.

So I get the sense their will not be a place to sit inside during it. But we'll find out tomorrow! I'm going tomorrow just to walk around (not doing houses) and I'm going to do the Today Cafe S&S.,

No character meals unfortunately

One tip for folks doing S&S - its something I always forget - bring sunglasses and wear them as long as it is light out.

Going into the houses some are extremely dark and your eyes wont have the time to adjust - you can miss a lot.

I usually end up keeping one eye closed as much as possible in line.

Usually the houses in NY are the most popular, so those will have the shortest waits if you get into the actual S&S line early; otherwise, you need to wait until after midnight. Since you don’t want to actually be with the hordes, get a reservation at Lombard’s, then go to Universal Monsters or Goblin’s Feast.

Here as we speak. Gates opened at 6; we got through five houses in about an hour. Some had a bit of a wait as there are a lot of singles and with the staggered entry that can take a bit.

Just taking a food break and about to hit the other five. Actually a bit weird seeing the place almost deserted.

Ok so done all 10 houses and scare zones by 8:30. Worked counter clockwise and by the time we got back towards the front those houses were walk ons. Much much better than our public RIP tour last year.

Now going to hit the rides and go through a few of our faves a second time.

Heading out now, just before midnight. After 15 houses (repeats of Sinema, Monstrous, Triplets, Sweets and Goblin), multiple rides on RRR, Mummy, MiB and Gingrotts, and all the scare zones more than once we’re exhausted but happy. Overall a fantastic night - we were all thrilled by how it went.

Highlights off the top of my head were Sinema and Triplets for houses, and the Blumhouse scare area. Oh and of course a spooky foggy Diagon Alley full of Deatheaters.

Everything Ive read so far says the event was a massive hit
Yeah I watched the live stream from Rix Flix. It was a bit painful as he can be very repetitive with his Dad jokes. Lots of Disney folks getting in the chat trying to bash Universal as well...why?

I still have mixed feelings on HHN overall, but this event looked really cool and if you are only going one night it seems like a great option.
.Wait times where 5 to 10 minutes - pretty much walk on and you can do houses as many times as you want.
So although there are no RIP tours or guides - I think its better than a RIP tour or Express pass - plus you get all the food.
Also there was not a lot of drinking - the bars were mostly dead - that may be a plus for some people.

Not having the crowds gives it less atmosphere IMO.
That said it was really cool when he was in the Hollywood scare zone by himself with about 30 SAs.

They send your group into the house on your own, like they do in Hollywood. If you are a solo traveler that may not be all that much fun. he did not go into the houses, but spoke to someone he knew as they came out.

They cut out the first show of nightmare fuel - NBD - but just to say it.

Biggest disadvantage is - its way too early in the season. I don't like going till October - the SAs are not really ready that early IMO.
They are still trying to find their feet.

Adding a few days during the season might be a good option - but when would you do it - cut some Wednesdays or add some Tuesdays? Cutting days from Multilight tickets does not work IMO and SAs need the break so kind of hard.
Maybe have an option for those who have Multilight tickets (not ROF) to add the event for say $100.

During the stream he only tried one food item - the hotdog and he said the bun was stale. Someone on the stream said it looked like it was one of those healthy sawdust buns Disney used to use like a multigrain bun. It has nacho cheese and cheese curls on it - why use a healthy bun???

Will be interesting to see tonight's livestreams - especially if folks can get into the houses - Rix Flix in not part of that so he will live stream tonight , but he cant from in the houses.

General comments on the event having watched a 3 hour stream - I've already said some of this in recent days I am sure.
The first scare zone at the entrance is a joke - don't even call it a scare zone.
Hollywood was cool as well as swamp.
Blum house is really just another selfie zone with mostly SAs on platforms for photos.
Torture fare was a last minute replacement - I don't get why they could not do Vamp85 - Punk Rock Skull Character is obviously the Icon. I've heard it has to do with Blum House and Dead Coconut Club, but I don't see how.
There is way to much dead space between Simpsons and Minions
Several people mentioned the music - it just does not work - its some sort of speed metal (supposedly punk?????). I listen to a lot of hardcore punk from the 80s as well as 70s punk - the music was not any punk sound I am familiar with.
Much more like the bands that sold out and started doing mental to pay the bills.

Note: On TM preview night they ran out of the Ghostbusters Smores dessert - after one hour - so you may want to do that as soon as possible. Hopefully they can fix that.

That was not our experience at Blumhouse at all. Yes, there were platforms, but also lots of SAs on the ground definitely following and jumping around.

Will there be enough of them with real crowds? Guess we’ll find out tonight.

Point taken about with so few patrons the park might at times lacked a bit of energy. To that I say I’ll take that 11 times out of ten if it means no lines, being alone with my family in the houses, quick access to food and drink, and having SAs really focus on everyone going through the zones.

Last year we did one night with EP, and another with public RIP tour. This event was so much better than either of those it’s basically in another category of its own.

i watched the HHN private event with Rix Flix. At one point he went into one of the scare zones and got surrounded by scaractors. It was intimating to watch. But yes the plus was food included and low wait times. I only watched so much of it. And no Death eaters. early one. hope they showed up later.

We went into Diagon Alley a couple times (around 8 and then 10) and both times it was crawling with Deatheaters. Who followed you around as there were so few people there.

Yeah they did show up later - quite a few of them - and very few people.

Yeah - I was comparing it to what we have seen in that area in the past, but yeah tonight will tell us a lot more.

I do hope this is something they offer in the future - I think that said they got 3400 people or so - even if it was not profitable or break even its a good introduction for the SAs and a great opportunity for guests. I can see it selling much better if they do it next year - and advertise it better. So many folks watching the livestream had no idea about this event - and if they are watching this I assume they are the fans of the event and should have heard about it.
