Official 2018 Star Wars Dark Side Weekend

Another one dealing with #fakespring ....more snow here in MA today...

Is there any good guide to 5k corals? I have our bib numbers all in the 435xx range by don’t know what the starting values are..

You can Google Image search for bibs and see what you can find. The 4 designates the race - so y'all are in the 3500 range ... I would guess that puts you in third or fourth corral.

Ugh- thanks - I have been trying to google a bunch of things even before posting but so far no luck.

It will be a bummer if we are really that far back! All 3 of us were registered within a minute of DVC Registration Opening!

For the 5k you get placed based on the estimated pace you entered at registration. It has nothing to do with when you registered.

I think the bottom of the course map has an small elevation chart. If you enlarge the map from the event guide it’s easier to see. Disclaimer: No coffee yet so I could be thinking of something else!
Thanks TinkerBellLiz! It was pretty small so I didn’t see it, but it’s obvious now that you point it out. Thanks again and good luck on the race!

It's a Disney race. Aside from a highway ramp or two, there are no real elevation changes in any of their races.
Appreciate the info FFigawi! I’ve never done any Disney races so newbie in terms of this. I live at sea level so good to know not too many big hills and such. Thanks!

Another newbie question for you rundisney vets- how many runners are in each corral for the half marathon? Just trying to get a sense of how many people will be around (I assume a lot). They do waves for corrals in 2 min intervals or something else? Thanks

I’m glad to see some folks with starting values in the 5xxxx series. I do hope we are not middle of the pack. My past experience with 5k DVC registrations has not followed the info from above. Plenty of people with much better pace times were behind us in both previous races we have done.

I'm fully expecting a later corral. I've never run a 5K before, but all my runDisney times from 10K and Half distances should solidly put me in to the second to last corral. My goal for the 5K is to exert as little energy as possible and get as many photos as I reasonably can before they either tell me to pick up the pace or kick me off the course.

My other 2 goals involve finishing and possibly getting photos that I could not get during the 5K.

I think if your 5k bib started with a 5, I would be prepared mentally for the last corral if there are other people out there with corrals starting in 4XXXX

Yikes - 10,000 people in a RunDisney 5K? #Nope

I swore off Disney 5Ks forever after PHM this year. Then I went and signed myself up for Dopey. That’s it after that. 10K people running a 5K sucks.

Yes our 5k bibs are 50xxx for my RD virgin friend and 46xxx for me with my 10k bib being 32xxx I know she will be in F I’m trying to gage if I’ll be in D or E

Brand new on these boards. I'm going to be running the Dark Side Half Marathon, which will be my first runDisney race. Really looking forward to it.

I’m also new to the boards, but I have run 5 previous Disney halfs, and some of the challenges. My advice is to relax and have some fun. It’s difficult to PR in these runs because of the crowds, the distractions like the characters, and the unavoidable slow people who probably lied about their predicted times, got away with it, and won’t get out of the way when they are taking their selfies in the middle of the course.

But, if you’re interested and at least a semi-serious runner, you can compete for an age group award because everyone is running under the same conditions, so it’s a relatively level playing field. I landed one in the inaugural dark side half and one in the 10k at Disneyland 2016. Cute plaques came in the mail two months later and proudly hang on my medal wall.

My next Disney runs will be in the 31k challenge in Paris in September.

Good advice Dogface6. Do you think you will have same issues if you start in an earlier corral? Some of my friends told me they had issues with runners in their way more interested in taking selfies and photos than running the race (which I’m fine with as long as they don’t impede runners that don’t), which was more of a problem in later corrals. In corral B so hope this would be less of issue (could have been in coral A based on last two recent HM results but didn’t have these when registered for race in December or January). Planning on enjoying the sites along the way but not taking pictures except pre and post race. Did you have any issues with the start within your corral or was it pretty smooth with runners spreading out quickly at their own desired paces?

You should have pretty clear sailing from Corral B. The smaller size of the earlier corrals helps to open things up along with the higher proportion of faster runners. There will be some slower runners and walkers regardless of which corral you’re in due to a variety of reasons (injury, slower for challenge, corral jumping, PoT fraud, et al). It shouldn’t be a big impact up in B, though.

I found my daughter’s bib number for the half, but can’t find it for the 5k. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Awesome! Thanks.
