Official 2017 Star Wars - Light Side Half Marathon Weekend (Jan 12th - 15th, 2017)

THAT SKIRT IS GORGEOUS, GIRL. I am having major sparkle envy over here! I love the entire thing!

Thank you!! I truly love this skirt. Super sparkly in the sun. I save it for races. Ha. Now I'm getting excited for next weekend! Hahahah

Loving everyone's outfits! Love sparkly things, but I never wear skirts :sad1:

It's official. My runDisney costume skills are much worse than my running skills. It's an attempt to be Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty.

Aw, I was trying to figure out a Star Wars related character!

I'm super sad Sparkle Skirts won't be at the Expo although my wallet is probably happy about that.

Same! But with the WDW getting canceled and being able to return the merch (no reason for I Did It! declarations for a race that didn't happen), my wallet is fuller than I thought it'd be.

Also: we are next after the marathon wraps up today!

We are next!

So I fully admit my training has lacked horribly for this challenge for many reasons (death in family, injury recovery, getting sick, etc) I feel happy I was able to complete 8.02 miles today without trouble and below a 16 minute pace! I may be able to pull this off!

That's good. Hopefully what training you have been able to get in will help carry you across the finish line.

Edited to add that at least for now the weather forecast for next Saturday and Sunday now shows a 2% chance of precipitation on Saturday and nothing on Sunday.

If this was my first half marathon I would be more worried about it. This is my 3 Rebel Challenge and 6th Challenge Weekend (should have been 7th but my injury made Wine & Dine not a full challenge experience as I quit the half at 6.4 to prevent injury from 0 zero training). It may not be pretty but I will be able to get across that finish line - especially being in G and knowing what I'm getting into.

I'm not worried about rain at least! The rain Cali gets is nothing to what us Floridians get!

I love seeing everyone's outfits! Especially the cute sparkly skirts! I don't run/race enough to justify buying one, lol!

I tried running in a short-sleeve shirt on Friday. It wasn't as bad as I had feared. I tried to run in the shade to mimic the no-sun effect. The lows looks to be in the upper 40s, even 50s. Short-sleeve shirt it is for me! Though, I still will have something to wear and throw away for the wait.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the weather! It looks to be clear from Friday forward. It's raining cats and dogs here in Nor Cal! Hope everyone stays safe today.

Princess Leia inspired left and Dark Side inspired right. I have light grey shoes for Leia and black shoes for whatever I'm suppose to be in the black outfit. Maybe someone can give it a cute name for me ;)

I desperately need the black shirt. :) I was so on target for SW, Princess, and Hot Chocolate 15K after (with maybe even our local St Patricks Day Half included) and then my knee did something ghastly. Still not sure what it was, but it changes every day. 3 weeks off for a vacation gave it the rest it obviously needed, but I'm so scared to run on it.

I'm doing Leia homages, even though I don't normally go anywhere near a costume.

And those what-I-assume-are SparkleAthletic skirts are making me wish I'd ordered exactly those when I went to order them last week! Drat!

There are two "sparkle" skirt companies. Sparkle Athletic (no shorts under) will be at the expo. Sparkle Skirts (shorts attached) won't be.

Right. Those skirts look like SparkleAthletic to me. (I'm personally not a fan of the look of most SparkleSkirts) I figured expo pickup was over. Turns out it is NOT. So I ordered 'em. Woo!

For those of you running the the 10k, what kind of top do you run in? I've been trying to figure out what type of top to wear. With all the waiting around for either the start or possible character photos, I'm worried about being too cold if I go with a short sleeve shirt vs the long sleeve I've been running with. The thing is, when I wear my long sleeve top, by the time I get to mile 3, I'm rolling up my sleeve and unzipping my top a bit for some ventilation.

I'm going to wear long sleeved tech tops under my tank tops.

I keep saying I"m going to buy one of these, but I forget to. Google (or look on amazon) "running shrug". I saw one in action at Princess '16, and it looked so cool. It just keeps the very top of you warm, and if you do have to take it off it's just a small amount of fabric tied around the waist.

I've found that I don't mind my legs being cold, but the waist up I want to be warm.

Same.

I'm signed up for the Hot Chocolate 15k in San Francisco on Sunday so that should be lots of fun in the torrential rain.

:)

I did the Seattle HC last year and it was cold and SO rainy. At one point the wind was blowing right in our faces, so the rain was like needles. We were going downhill but I swear it felt like we were going uphill. At that point (over halfway in) there was nothing to do but laugh!

The chocolate at the end was SO GOOD, though, it was all worth it. Looks like the jackets are way better this year than they were last year, so that'll be nice, too.

Haha! It's from Raw Threads. The only way to find it on their site is to look page by page. For some reason it's not listed in their Galaxy Collection or search option.

FWIW I was able to search "galaxy disturbing" to find it. That was after going through all of their racer tops and not being successful, then finally googling "raw threads disturbing", found the men's version, then looked up "galaxy disturbing" on the actual site.

I am signed up for the 10K, and need some advice! I've skimmed through most of the 34 pages here but still feel a little lost going into this race, especially being that I haven't truly run a race since about, oh 20 years and 3 kids ago! If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it, sorry if this is redundant

1- I am coming from HB that morning, I was planning to be at the garage by 4am, is that enough time? Or is it insane getting into the garage?

2 - Did we not get corral assignments for the 10K yet? I was told by someone who is running the challenge that she had her corral, so I looked up my bib# but there is no corral list online for the 10K, only the 1/2 and challenge. I haven't gotten any emails but she got one with lots of info on pickup and other things.

3- I am planning to hit the expo for pickup at 10am Thursday when they open. Is it mayhem? How early should I arrive? Will I regret that with a 15 month old? (I'll be wearing her, no stroller) How many hours should I plan to be stuck there?

4- Any little gems of advice for a first time Disney runner? I've been an AP since about 1994 so I figured it was about time I give this adventure a try too, but I'm afraid of what I don't know. I'm also a snail so I'll be lucky just to finish, I probably shouldn't even attempt a photo stop, but you've to start somewhere right?!

TY!!

I'm going to answer the questions that I can.

1) I have no idea

2) You will not get the corral assignments for the 10K until you pick up your bib. You can guess based off your number - like I know with them having 7 Corrals and my husband being a "B" Corral for the Half Marathon - that will translate to an "A' corral for the 10K based off of all the previous WDW races we've done (before this race - Star Wars only went to E for both the 10K & Half). I'm in G - I'm guess I'll be in D most likely for the 10K but it could be C. There are 13,000 people running the 10K and 7 Corrals. There will be a little less than 2K in each corral but it depends on how they split it between Challengers/10Kers.

Rebel Challenge has 20005 to 26182
TK has 30005 to 36889.

3) Going straight to the pick up for your bib will not be crazy and shirt. If you want official merchandise it will be crazy. My husband and I go to the opening of the official merchandise every year and we arrive early. This year will be a little different as they have the VIP Light Side Lounge. We're doing that mainly as the Expo Early Entry is important to us + the extras make it 'worth it' for us.

4) Be hydrated. Have fun! As a slow runner, you can judge the lines if you want to stop by where your pace is at. You could always do the selfie method I do or the just take a photo as you pass by method I do. Read my reports if you want to know how it is for a slow runner who for some reason keeps doing this to herself!

Thank you! So say I was interested in maybe getting a jacket but not much else besides my bib and shirt, and it wouldn't be the end of world if I didn't buy anything... could I waltz in at 10ish or is there a very long line to get inside? I can't arrive too early as I'll have my 15 month old and she won't be thrilled with sitting for hours and waiting. Am I better off just waiting until 10:30 or will the line just keep getting longer? Or once 10 hits they just slowly let everyone in and there is no more line?

The official merchandise will have a line to get in. The wait could be up to an hour or more. They have you go up to the Magic Kingdom Ballroom and hang out there (Star Wars Movies Playing) and then as the area clears, they will let more people downstairs to wait in that line and then be let into the official section. If anything, if you want to avoid a line, it probably would be smarter to wait until 1PM but you risk the selection being picked over. I don't know what all your plans are for the day though. The actual expo booths outside the official merchandise won't be bad though so you could always shop those if the line seems too much trouble for you.

The thing that they throws a wrench in is the VIP Expo experience this year - it may help cut down the wait for people as those super serious about merchandise may be done before it officially opens.

Awesome thank you! I'll probably be bringing up the rear, barely pulling 15m/m right there with you! :-)

Any advice from anyone local on parking would be awesome, how early do you arrive at M&F and how crazy is the parking?

The expo is not restricted to runners, right? We'd like/have to bring our kids. We'll be there sometime Friday afternoon.
