Official 2017 Star Wars - Light Side Half Marathon Weekend (Jan 12th - 15th, 2017)

Safety pins have always worked great for me. Some people don't like them too much because of the small holes they create. You can also buy bib toggles. I have some, but then the bib ends up too low and bothers me when I'm running.

Thanks for the info!

I was looking through the Superheroes event guide and saw that layered costumes (eg Jedi robes) are not allowed. I'm toying with the idea of dressing up like Rey. Do you think this is a no-no?

Also, do most people just use safety pins to pin their bibs? Is there a better way?

I was Rey for Dark Side Half this year and I wasn't alone. I'm also planning to reuse the costume in January. I think they mean the actual Jedi robes that trail on the ground (this is consistent with the no full-length princess gowns rule) or can hide potentially dangerous objects.

For bibs, my hydration belt has toggles, which I much prefer to safety pins. Good luck!

I saw a runner dressed as Rey during this year's Star Wars 1/2 The Light Side.

I just use safety pins. I've never had an issue with them and I really don't trust the magnets I've seen advertised.

Rebel Challenge training plan has 7 miles on the schedule for this weekend. Good luck to all of you training!

Training update.

Finally had the time to run and I broke the 12.5 miles barrier today. :yay:

Longest I ran before that was about 8+ miles. My God.....I was just plodding and dragging my feet by the last 2 miles. Of course....running the last mile uphill didn't help....but my lower back and ankles are really sore.

2 months to go to get used to running that long. :scared:

Unless they find a way to more efficiently process the security checkpoints, it's going to be rough.

Do you think a hotel on Katella is a better idea than a hotel on Harbor?

Update on my training: I did my 7 mile run this weekend without having to walk it in at the end. I did have some IT band pain but not as much as the week before. Working on strengthening my glues and core.

Depends on how much park time you're doing on race weekend. The hotels on Katella are all a good 15-20 minutes away from park entrance (not accounting for security lines) whereas some of the hotels on Harbor are a good 5-10 minutes away from park entrance. Personally, I would rather have the short walk to the parks after cleaning up after the race and at the end of the day than a long walk after long walks.

Overall, I like moving the security checkpoint. Now we can go to Downtown Disney without having to go through security again.

So if I'm reading the below article correctly, it sounds like this will be in place for Star Wars weekend.

Any guesses on how it will affect crowds after the races?

A spectator friend of ours had problems getting through security - this may be a much better option.

Overall, I like being checked before trams and entering DD. Then you don't have to check all the bags (again) through security. It slows everything down!

And once you do your shopping in DTD you dont have to have those bags checked so thats a positive I didn't consider.

Ya know, I always thought of it the opposite way...getting to/from the races and back to the hotel the quickest. But I think I'll sit down and figure out how many trips i'll be making to/from the parks to see where the benefit is for me.

I'm a little late to the game registering, but I'm able to get off work for the weekend now and want to register. Anyone have experience or recommendations on registering through a travel agent for the Rebel Challenge? Or... should I just register for the 10k and Half separately?

You want to register for the challenge. If you register for the races separately, you don't get the challenge medal or shirt.

I bought a 10K bib through a TA for a Disneyland race and it was pretty easy. I had to buy a 1-day park ticket as well, so maybe sure you know the terms of what you're looking at.

Yea, I'm chatting with a few TA now. Problem is I want to get an annual pass for DL as I'm going to be back again later in the year. I wonder if you can use that 1day ticket value towards an AP???

Definitely ask! In my case if was a 1-day ticket that could be upgraded, but they may have changed the terms since then (this was in May).

I sent you a PM re: registration.
