Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...theater-to-debut-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

This clears up a bit of information on the new theater. Just looking at the theater and where it was located it appears instead of keeping with more small town feel the theater is modeled after the Willis Wood Theater which is located in Kansas City, MO so more of a bigger city feel. KCMO is where Walt Disney worked at Laugh-O-Gram Studio (which despite living in the KC metro I have yet to make it there to take a pic of it :o).

Laugh-O-Gram Studio is located approximately 10mins (just about 4miles depending on the route and of course traffic) south of where the Willis Wood Theater used to be.

Here's a bit of background on the theater for those interested:

Because Epcot is the most innovative amusement park theme/design in history... like Disneyland...it's a trailblazer.

The customers have gotten so whiney about their kids being "bored" and wanting nothing but cartoons and princess lines...and it dumbs down the place.

Some people need to grow up and it's not the kids. Contrary to the tv programming...thinking is GOOD...dumb is not "ok"

I agree. When my dad and I went to WDW when I was 10 it was just WDW and Epcot, DHS opened shortly after we were there. We spent part of a day in Epcot and only in Future World. My dad would have liked to do the world showcase but thought I wouldn't enjoy it so we didn't do it. He probably also didn't want to do all the walking :) Finally visiting it as an adult I can see why he skipped it because there really isn't much there specifically for kids, but that was always the point. There are ways you can enjoy it with your kids and I'm not saying kids don't enjoy it, but adding IPs in Epcot just for the kids is a bummer, especially when it doesn't seem the least bit educational (GOTG). I'm all for Inside Out being added but they can do it well and the movie wasn't just for entertainment, it had a great learning message.

Some want it to remain Walt's original vision which was a city of tomorrow... more than another Disney Park. Or at least the educational drinking center it is today maybe?

it also very explicitly didn't have any existing IP when it first opened (though, it was because they were afraid if they put Mickey in EPCOT people wouldn't bother going to the Magic Kingdom anymore ... yeah, not really an issue)

Not perfect but should give you an idea

Sooooo - I'm NOT seeing Innoventions.

Thoughts on where in the Epcot/HS the new DVC will be?

On recently cleared land at Caribbean Beach. Undoubtedly Disney will tread carefully in their statements to avoid perception of a a "Moderate DVC." It's an entirely new facility with deluxe accommodations (and prices.)

They know by now that aulani has nothing to do with Disneyland business...apple's and oranges

Nevertheless, that's still their rationale. Not sure if Aulani is even half sold yet. Still hoping to sway west-coasters to buy there since it's a sunk cost. There is space to build at DL but it's not unlimited like WDW. They know that whenever they proceed with another DL DVC, there will be people waiting to hand over money.

I wonder if the space restaurant will go in the former wonders of life pavilion. It would fit with what we know. That would put it next to mission space and also would work next to GOTG. The concept art for the restaurant makes it look like the walls will be round. And it would explain why that pavilion is shown in the future world concept art.

So many questions!!

Pretty exciting announcements.

-Mickey Ride
-Tron
-Guardians
-New DVC
-Star Wars resort
-Magic Kingdom Theatre
-Minnie Bus Transportation
-Ratatullie

But:

-Where's this DVC Gunna be? I'm assuming CBR
-Where's this Theatre? I'm assuming off Main St?
-Where's Star Wars Resort? I'm assuming Hollywood Studios.
-I'm assuming Minnie Bus is gunna be a paid service? Not that traffic would be better with hundreds more cars driving around.

Ratatullie/Guardians fitting in with EPCOT's mission was a stretch at best. Though, they're needed.

Inside out, nemo, wall-E...hell any things have way more of a place in that park than marvel.

Iger is so proud of his purchases...he's the typical tv suit that hopefully will go away soon.

So the "new dvc" is caribbean? Oh ok...I mean...that's nowhere near news...the place is half demo for god's sake.
