Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Where are you guys seeing the link to sign up for runner tracking?I've always signed up for it at all my RunDisney races without issue but I'm just not seeing where the link is.I'm going to the website under spectators and runner tracking and see no link to sign up??

It was in an email they sent this morning. Opusone was kind enough to post the following on page 103 http://results.xacte.com/track?id=1241

I'm seriously considering not doing the 5k now. :(

Backstory: I was signed up for the 5ks in January's Marathon weekend and February's Princess weekend. I've never done anything like this before and I'm not in great shape. I was working on it for a while, but then I had surgery last November and was in the hospital for 9 days, and then I had a serious flare-up of my hip and back problems in January (the day before Marathon weekend), leading to cortisone shots and physical therapy. I was cleared to start going to the gym again in February (the day the Princess 5k would have been) and then I sprained my ankle at work and had to put it off a few more weeks.

I did 3 miles on a treadmill at the gym yesterday and had a lot of back pain but got through it... But my time was about 18 minutes per mile, which I know is pretty horrible. But, I have the day off work for the event already, and I'll probably feel like I'm wasting my vacation hours if I just stay home.

Show up- walk it proud and i guarantee you wont be the last one. Sounds like your looking for an excuse to not get out there. If my friend who spent 2 weeks in icu before princess 5k can finish in 59 min you got this!

Cast photo is @5 and i expect you there :)

If I do go, I'll definitely be there in time for the cast photo. :)

I'm going to do a couple more practice runs and then make my final decision on it. I'm just discouraged by all the setbacks and I don't want get pulled from the course by medical. :crutches: Thanks for the encouragement!

hang in there - it's so frustrating to have this stuff happen at the end of training.

I can't believe it's almost here! And it snowed about two inches last night! I'm going to stop worrying about running in Florida heat, I'm looking forward to sun so much it is crazy. I can't believe it's almost here - so much to do before we leave Thursday.

I was thinking about making a late breakfast ADR for either the Wave or Kona.
We are running the 10K on Saturday and will be attending Dapper Days that afternoon/evening at the Magic Kingdom.
This will be our first race ever so I do not plan to rush out after it's done. We plan to use the bus to and from the Boardwalk.
About what time do you think the race will be done and how bad is the bus back to the Boardwalk?
Thanks

only a few more days to go! Anyone doing any running this weekend? I plan on doing a short run (maybe 4 miles), then another one when I get to FL-just to get acclimated to the heat and humidity. The high here is in the 40s today so it's going to be a brutal adjustment.

I might try a 1 mile easy run on Tuesday night before we leave Wed morning to loosen up. But, other than that, I sidelined myself because I started getting those nasty shin splints! I have a little stepping machine that I did last night for about 30 min, and will be doing about the same on a bike at my grandparents tonight when I visit (best granddaughter ever??) just to try and have some cardio. Other than that, just trying some ab work and planks to stay active. My last long run was supposed to be a 10 miler - I do much better with minimalist plans - but I scrapped it to rest. So, I have done 8.5 and two back to back 10k's last week for challenge prep, with a short mile on Monday. That puts me at about a 2 week taper. I also ran the half in January and the half of a half in Nov. so thankfully not too worried as of now. Just hoping the first couple of miles, which are always the most difficult anyways, dont feel like hell as I try to loosen up and get back in rythm!

I live in Indianapolis, and I saw snow flurries yesterday.

Snow. Flurries. Yesterday (aka April 7).

I still don't feel 100% recovered from my last race, 3 weeks ago, so I'll probably just try a slow, short run tomorrow. I'm so ready for Florida!

5 inches last night. It looks like a snow globe outside here in Ohio.

Does anyone know if they take disney gift cards at the expo for the official merch? I recognize that the nondisney tables would not accept disney gift cards. TIA

Yes they will!

Do it, you might surprise yourself! I had a total klutz move and fell down the stairs a few weeks ahead of the Star Wars half in January. Messed up my ankle pretty badly, and bruised my whole leg up... my training went out the window until about a week prior to the race, so my goal was just to finish. I did better than I anticipated, you'd be surprised how far the race day adrenaline gets you! And if you get swept, at least you tried!

Yay to everyone finishing up their training runs. I did back-to-back 5 miles last week, followed by 12 miles the next day as my longest run before the half. The 5 miles was awesome, but the 12 the next day was brutal. I got through it, but I was tired the whole way. It really proved that I am going to need to take the 10K easy if I want to feel good for the Half on Sunday.

Ok, Transportation questions.

1. After the half, I am assuming that buses only go to resorts and Epcot parking? I would really like to take a bus directly to Animal Kingdom, but I don't know if that's possible.

2. My parents have a pre-park ADR at Animal Kingdom on Half Marathon day. They want to try and be there early (7:15ish) to see us as we exit AK. They have a rental car - would it be better for them to drive to AK or to try taking the bus? Is there anyplace that has a map of road closures for the half?

TIA!!

Not sure about this one, but worst case you can just hop the first resort bus you see and swap.

Where are you staying? Parts of World Drive and Osceola Pkwy will be closed to all traffic, so they would likely have to divert around to 192 to bypass the marathon. The buses will already be aware of the closures and have a set route to get around it, but if your parents are familiar with the area and are comfortable being redirected, it'll likely be faster to drive.

I couldn't find anything official (other than the course map), but this is my best guess based on the course and previous marathons.

Yellow = closed roads.

Some roads will be fully closed, and some will be partially closed depending on the time, how wide the road is, and if it's part of the course or just near the course. This is not official, it is just my best guess!

Unless they know the area- disney transport! I cant see the above pic and the closure guides arnt out yet but expect driving to dak pretty impossible till roads clear closer to 8.. Busses will get through cause they have route options cars wont..

Last "long" run of 4 miles this morning. Was 23 degrees, but at least it wasn't snowing. I am all packed and ready to head out super early tomorrow morning. I am heading to DC for a work conference for a few days, then flying from there to MCO on Wednesday. I am very much looking forward to the heat. I think I will try to get in 3 miles Monday morning in DC and another 2 on Thursday morning before the Expo, just to try and acclimate a little. Still having Piriformis issues, so I will just have to push through the pain. Good news is that it hasn't been too bad on my long runs...just when I am sitting. These plane rides may end up being torture!

Thanks everyone. I figured that buses might be safest, I just don't know if they will be running to AK early enough for them to see us as we exit. They may try and drive, but I know the road closures are going to be a pain. Thank you PlaidPrincess for the guess-work map. I was trying to create that myself, very unsuccessfully!

They may be able to bus to AKL and catch an early breakfast ADR bus to AK. Maybe someone here knows when those start...

This will be my first half marathon and I did my last longer training run yesterday (9 miles).

Total training amount at the moment is 169.2 at a 10:05 pace. Still have a 5 mile and 3 mile run left.

Hopefully weather is as good next weekend as it was this weekend here in central florida!

Excited and ready to go!

Best luck to all
