Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had issues linking their bib ID to their photo pass account, either on the app or the website? Im getting messages to say I'm entering an invalid ID, even though I pretty sure it's correct, I'm using the ID from the race guide and adding a 0 at the start of my bib.

I'm doing the half and I completely forgot to set this up until this morning and now totally stressed about it! :headache:

I don't think you enter it until the race is over. It did not work for me today on the app until an hour or two after the 10k. Now pictures are slowly starting to appear.

Ok, that makes sense, thanks so much for that! Can relax and enjoy the rest of the day now. Thanks again!

Yeah you can't link it till after the race and it won't claim it till you have at least one picture. The photopass site is pretty much down now anyway, I think it's overloaded. My Dad's from the 10k is linked with one picture but my mom's won't work yet. The 5k was quicker yesterday, but probably cause less people on there.

Something has been bugging me today. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the finish was in the main lot, not the touchdown lot. Could this be problem later, USATF wise? Or am I just confused about the lots?

Thanks cavepig! I think I'm just getting nervous about everything right now. First RunDisney race & first Half.

I just went back and compared the map from my Garmin to the map on the USATF site. The two look dead on to me. We ran past the Main Lot (it was on our left and we never entered it) and into the Touchdown Lot for the finish.

We were able to link one bin from today, but not the other, and it was only two pictures. Not that misery loves company but glad to hear it's not just us.

I think you are confused. It definitely ended in the touchdown lot. My Garmin also confirms it.

My 10k thoughts...

This was my first runDisney event. I started in C and like most others from the earlier corrals didn't experience too many crowding issues. I thought the school band playing was awesome and would have loved another one near the finish (how do they get those poor kids up so early?) But I just can't wrap my head around the characters. The lines in the staging area were huge...and the lines on the course we're so long I don't know how you could manage to stop for more than one unless you run 6 minute miles in between? Did anyone who runs at a semi-human pace, say 9 minute miles or slower, manage it? And I'm guessing the farther back you start the harder it gets..

My daughter ran the 200 kids dash - she loved it and I was probably more excited watching her than running myself. But as my wife pointed out - between the all the waiting for transportation and then for the waves of other kids to go it was a 3 hour investment for a 1 minute race. Geez. Going out to WWoS seems like going to another planet.

Still, excited for my first Half and second runDisney event tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the problems in the back corrals today. I ran out of Corral A and had one of my most pleasant Disney race experiences to date. There was very little crowding and it thinned out quickly. I could tell they were trying to space the later corrals out a bit, but it obviously didn't work! It was great to run on the Boardwalk with it dry and not slick from ongoing rain. Also, a big shout out to the 501st Legion, who were a highlight rocking DHS and the WWoS!

A couple of suggestions that may help for next time (if anyone's listening):
1. Move the super popular characters (R2D2 & Chewie) to later in the race so you don't have as many faster runners stopping and mixing back in during the most congested stretches. Just put a scenic backdrop there or something.
2. Continue to tweak the starting time between corrals and/or add a couple more to dilute the runner volume out.

Also, to all those frustrated, I won't say not to be frustrated, just to bear with it a little while. It is an inaugural event and I'm sure they are still working out the kinks and I fully expect next year's events to be even better. I spoke to some longtime rDers at Marathon a Weekend and they related how disorganized the early Marathon Weekends were, but praised how much improvement there's been since.

This was my 1st RD race (and 1st 10K) so take this with a grain of salt:
I thought the path was very narrow at many points, the back half was way too boring, and the character stops were way too congested (which caused faster runners to come running from behind weaving in and out).
Plus, the HS portion was very confusing as to where the course was versus the lines for 501st.

My husband did the 5K and raved about it. They mostly ran in Epcot. But my medal is better so I'm ok with it (sort of). Lol

Ok, so it is very obvious they spot check, at best, 10k times. I basically saw someone in single digits ELITE numbers that had no business being in corral A...none, not even corral Z. Please people, be honest with your times and don't lie to get higher corrals because that is not safe for everyone. I digress, again.

First 3 miles sucked for me thanks to that lovely banked road - cause my left foot to be tight for 2 miles and slowed me down immensely. I wanted to run the low side but it was too packed to get there so I was stuck in that bank. Oh well.

Apparently there have been issues with people getting others to run a POT in there name so they can submit and get in the top coral. THat way they get a lot more time to try and finish the race and can run a lot slower than the 16 min limit. Sucks but it seemed to also be the case in the lightside race.

For the 5K and 10K you don't even need proof. I would never ever put a time of elite but I'll admit I've fudged on 5K and 10K so I could stop for photos and not have to worry. I also put a higher time for my fiance's first 5K because he was so nervous of being swept. I only bumped us up a corral or two though not a lot. Halfs are all mine though! I need to get another good time in the books before my next RD races as my better than normal race (yay perfect conditions and wind at my back) is up this year.

Well, this sucks. I just woke up with a cold. Sore throat, cough, headache, chills, yay. I apologize to anyone at dinner if you feel sick later, I honestly felt nothing until this morning. Running won't be fun today unless I can clear this throat.
