Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I eat a Honey Stinger Waffle (caramel, yum!) an hour before a long run (8 miles or longer). Then I carry a mix of candy corn, plain m&m's and broken pretzels. I usually eat 3 candy corn, 3 m&m's and 3 pieces of pretzel at 3 miles, then every 3 miles after that, depending on how long my run is. So my baggie is 9 candy corn, 9 m&m's and maybe 2 broken up pretzels. Then after my run I finish of the packages that I took them out of lol! Not really, but usually feel like it. I tried lots of things that upset my stomach and around Halloween I had that mix of candy in the house and it worked and didn't make me sick so I have stuck with it. Plus it's cheap! :)

And I was just going to post the info from Facebook about the waivers, corrals being released this week but @Keels beat me to it! :)

Mmmmmmm ... candy corn.

The chocolate they gave out in DHS during the Marathon was such a lifesaver for me. I'm thinking I might work M&Ms or baby Snickers bites into my training fuel to see how that works out.

LOL I literally just ordered a 24-pack of fruit punch Sport Beans this morning on Amazon. I like them, but I know everyone else has their own personal preference. I also like the cherry flavor, too, but I got so sick of those training for the PHM last year, that I wanted to mix it up a bit.

I cannot stand GU Chews - they're too chewy! I always feel like I'm going to choke. And I really don't like gels, they make me gag. I like the Sport Beans because I can pop a few, then reseal the packet and tuck it away till I need some more. I really love the cherry cola flavored Honey Stingers, but I have to be careful, or I'll eat them like candy lol. And don't even get me started on the Honey Stinger waffles. OMG. Those are dessert. I save those for my long runs that are > 1 1/2 hours.
That's hilarious. I like the pear ones best. I'm afraid of buying a box of them because I feel like I might get sick of them. Aren't the cherry ones one of the flavors with caffeine?

I haven't tried GU Chews yet. Gels make me gag as well. I want to try honey stingers but I've heard they're addictive an I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to stop.

I used to eat the sports jelly beans and then went to honey stinger chews. They both contain about the same stuff, but honey stringer chews are softer. This year I have been using fruit chews...a box of 8-10 packs for less than $2 or $3. They are loaded with sugar as are the beans and chews. I have been using two packs for runs over nine miles...I think each pack is 1 oz. I just need a bit of sugar to keep me going. M&M's sound wonderful, but I fear they might melt.

PEAR IS MY FAVORITE FLAVOR, TOO! (Yes, shouting was necessary, lol). I just wish the pear flavor was caffeinated, too, otherwise I'd only buy those. Green apple is good, as well. But, I need my caffeine. Candy with oomph.

Yay chocolate! I ate chocolate during training runs for the 2015 marathon, based on the info from the 2014 marathon. I loved it and was glad it worked - so I cheered loudly (and a little crazily) for the volunteers handing out the chocolate at the marathon last year. I think they were laughing at me at bit. :)

The gel things are so disgusting to me. I can't handle them. I was using clif blocks but got some honey stinger chews and a waffle to try out and they were both delish! I loved how easy to chew the honey stinger chews were. I will probably get more of those. I'm just not that coordinated at eating and running!

My time hop today was actually a post about printing my waivers last year so I was excited to see the post on FB about them being released this week!

For those of you who did it online, did you get the response saying that everything was set? I did so and I did the email, and I got my tags months ago. (which happens for some but not for all, to get them months out from your stay)

I went through: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/airport-transportation-reservation/

You know...I could have sworn I did, but I just did a search in my email and nothing came up. Maybe I didn't!

Today was the weirdest run of my life.
1. Hubby told me the laps at the track were 3 miles. I did 2 laps and noticed that the zombie run app had me at 6 and I was happy. I cooled down and stretched and went to play around with the app. Took off my sunglasses and there it was... 6 KM and not 6 MILES! Ooops. Apparently I was supposed to cross the street to get the extra mile. And this was after I had called my husband so excited that I had run an 9 minute mile. So I opted to walk a loop since I was cooled down and had lost a lung somewhere on the first lap.

2. Zombie Run was awesome in that it motivated me. It was not awesome in that I heard helicopters and shooting and didn't know if it was from the app or from being on the Army base! Yes, they occasionally do target practice right next to the track and seeing an 18 year old trying to hit a plastic mannequin about 10 feet from you will make you run faster!

3. As the app told me that zombies were spotted ahead I happened to look up (because I can't tell the difference between real and imaginary apparently) and there were 150 soldiers out doing pt in their black uniforms in the distance. Yep, they looked like zombies!

4. Trying to get down sport beans is hard when you have a dry mouth and are doubled over hacking up a lung.

5. As I was walking and enjoying the scenery, I happened to see the paved track my husband had mentioned. I checked the sign to see the distance and it said "1 lap=5/10, 2 laps=10/10, 5 laps=2.5 miles." I literally stopped and started laughing. Did it not occur to anyone that 5/10 was a half mile and that would make more sense to put on the damn sign?

That is horrible! Once I forgot to take my app off of treadmill mode (this was before I had a watch) and it did not properly track a THIRTEEN MILE RUN. As far as the beans, I chug a bunch of water when I eat the beans.

Everything I've heard about gummies and beans sounds unpleasant. Do people find them necessary for the half? Or do you skip the fuel?

There's nothing unpleasant about it. Just find one that works for you (I like Sport Beans or Honey Stinger chews), drink water when you eat, and slow down (or eat during a walk break if you do intervals) when you're eating.

I hate gel. I heard it was hard on sensitive stomachs, so I never tried it. Then I tasted it at the expo a couple of years ago and it was gross! I love Honey Stinger chews and waffles! I just feel like the beans are easier to eat on the go. The chews are sticky and take up more room in my belt and the waffles can crumble. Other than that, they are great!

So, people with big phones, I have a question: I upgraded to the LG G4 yesterday, and since I have a Ballistic case on it, it's too big to fit in my old Armpocket. With the case, it's 6" x 3.25" (this thing feels like I'm carrying around a ham sandwich with me everywhere I go, lol). What are your suggestions for what to get to carry my phone so I don't have to hold it in my hand? Get a new, larger Armpocket? Switch to a Flip Belt? I know for sure this thing will be too big for my SPIBelt.

I have running shorts from Sweet Spot Skirts, and while I don't have a 6 and haven't tried it, they say that their shorts/running pants pocket will hold a 6 (I believe with a case). Might be worth trying out. They won't be at the expo and they aren't cheap, but...

With all of those electrolyte things you need to take them with water!

My brother, who generally has a will and stomach of hardened steel, ruined a PR for himself by taking an unfamiliar oncourse gel and not drinking water with it. It sucks up all the moisture from your system, and it just destroyed his time and almost his whole run. Gotta drink the water with those things!!!

And those sound like The Longest Laps ever. Half a mile for one lap? (and what is this 5/10 and 10/10 stuff? are they literally meaning they mark the course in tenths of a mile? and 10/10 is better for them than "1"? LOL)

Everything I've heard about gummies and beans sounds unpleasant. Do people find them necessary for the half? Or do you skip the fuel?

I do find them necessary for the half. I didn't use them for the SW 10K but maybe could have. I was definitely slowing down at a certain point (of course, my continued lack of adequate training contributes).

I like Clif Shot Blocks with 3x the normal salt, my preference is the margarita flavor.

mmmm.

I keep checking the link you provided a while back http://results.xacte.com/?kw=disp Do you think that is still good? It still has last years results up.

I believe people were successful with that for SW, at least for the Half.

This is what I'm trying to plan. I've started testing stuff on the long runs- I don't carry water with me but I loop around the park and run past my apartment once a loop (about 1.75 miles) so I hid some Gatorade by the door last weekend to take sips at regular intervals to make sure it agrees with me.

rundisney uses Powerade FYI so if you're wanting to be exact, might find some of that.

I personally like the mixed flavor sports beans, the margarita shotblocks, and Clif brand electrolyte powder (rather than drinking the oncourse stuff). Not usually all 3 in one run, not even a half. That would be way too much for me. :)

They wiped the results from last year a couple of hours ago - so hopefully we may see something tomorrow! For the past four or so race weekends (Disneyland, W&D, Avengers, Marathon, and maybe Star Wars?), it has worked for those on mobile before those on the website. It links with Runner Tracking, so once they link up this year's registration database, it should be populated with bib numbers for the 10K, Half and Challenge - if all things stay the same from the past race weekends!

Yea something is up with the site. I was on early today around lunch and it had all the results. I see movement!!!

Ok guys. I trust y'all's opinions. (yes, Texas girl here, and no I don't ride horses to work. You wouldn't believe the questions I have been asked!) I am considering wearing my husband's faux pro (our knock offs gopro) for one or both of the runs. Realistically, other than YouTube or a blog, neither of which I do, should I chance discomfort to catch it on tape? I am running by myself and desperately wish my husband would be with me but dang, he likes food and booze too much, let's just be honest. Honest opinions please!!!

Where in Texas are you from where people ask you if you ride horses to work??

I am from what I loving call the arm pit of South Texas. I am from Corpus Christi, along the coast. When I have traveled out of state, you would not believe how many times I had been asked that.
