Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Hmmmm ... that's hard to say. I have a weird sized and shaped head, so they fit a little loose on me ... I'm pretty sure I'd be constantly adjusting them if I were to run with them.

That said, I don't really run in anything other than a hat, so ... I'm running again on Monday (we're driving tomorrow and Saturday), so I'll give them a try!

No - for me personally, they are actually a little too big on my head, so they would be constantly flopping/falling down and I would have to keep adjusting them.

So you're both telling me my large head might be an advantage for once? ;) Thanks to both of you for the input. I think I will work on a back-up plan while I impatiently await their arrival. I'm not particularly crafty on my own, so I was thinking this was an easy out! I will try them (and look like a lunatic) on a short run when they come. In the mean time I'm thinking a fabric headband that I somehow attach a bow to. Probably better in the long run for both comfort and the longevity of the ears. Plus, I plan to wear them to the park that day.

I did have to adjust my Maleficient ears during the 10k last year, but the advantage there was it was cold and I was wearing a fleece headband to keep my sensitive ears warm. That helped keep them in place. If 2016 is more like 2014 and warm again, the fleece headband would not be happening!

Are you running every Disney race this year?

Not quite. I did Dopey, I'm registered for GSC and the 5k, PDC and the 5k and I'm hoping for DDD and the 5k. After that, I'm kind of in a waiting pattern to see about the NYC Marathon. If me and @mbwhitti dont get in there, I may do Avengers because that theme appeals to my husband.

No Star Wars races for me because me no likey Star Wars. And no Paris because it looks like a cluster and doesn't work with the husband's schedule.

So jealous of your ability to do so many of the runDisney races in one year. All I wish for is the chance to be able to do Coast-to-Coast at some point, but it's nearly impossible on a teacher's schedule with only one personal day a year.

I hear you!!! I feel the same way.

Yeah, I'm pretty lucky. Most of my registrations have been gifted to me by either my parents (birthday, Christmas present) or by my husband (birthday, anniversary present), and that I have a free place to stay in Florida when we drive out here.

The schedule just worked out best to cram them all into this year, and then cut them back in years that follow.

I'm waiting patiently for more raw threads grab bags where they do mystery l packs of three. I partook in the secret Santa/reindeer games Christmas season sale, and did not think I would love raw threads as much as I do. A little pricey, and I love a good bargain, so I am holding out for a good sale!

You guys that got bows from the bow mama, you must have the magic touch or something, I have left a message on Instagram trying to get the princess ears since she first announced the pre-order with no response at all. I'm giving up, personally.

Quick logistics question for you all. Is it feasible to get to the expo on the Friday around 9:30 and have everything picked up and sorted by 10:30 so we can be in the field for DS' kids dash at 11? I usually go to pickups at non-busy times of day here at home so I'm unsure...

I ordered a Run Disney scarf from her and have not heard back from her. I told her I didn't need it until Feb- but I sent her an email last weekend to check in- and never heard back. I am sure she got SLAMMED with orders...but time is running short.:worship:

I ran TOT in Queen of Heart headband ears bought at Disney. I have a simular set that I will be using for Ursla during PHM- they are tight and I never had an issue with them slipping. You could always wait and see what they have at the parks??? I would be nervous to wear ears/headband for a race without trying it on first.

Speaking of costumes- I looked pretty funny today in the gym running in my Urusla knee socks with my shell (Ariel's voice) necklace on- but needed that test run to be sure!

Getting excited!
Bev

I think you might have had to oder the Princess and/or runDisney ears at the little pop up sale she did, unless she has extra of them. That's just what I've observed.

I ordered runDisney ears from her and am just praying they arrive before I leave for Princess as she had said that orders would be shipped out by then.

For Marathon Weekend, I was in line at WWoS at 8:45 a.m. and was about the 20th or so person in line. They opened the doors to let us in at 9:30. That, obviously, put me in line before anyone traveling by bus since I was staying off property and drove in my own vehicle.

All of the must-have Dopey stuff was gone in a cloud of smoke within five minutes of us walking into the official merchandise area (I'm talking jackets, pullovers, hoodies).

Thanks @Keels for that information! I really appreciate it! I'm think we'll use Uber to get over there so we can ensure we're there at opening. (Princess is literally the only time I don't have my car too. Normally I drive but fly for Princess since I go solo and meet up with a friend there.)

So for those of us who have never run this course in any of it's forms (ie WDW Half, Princess Half, etc) how soon after exiting the castle should I look to jump? When I ran W&D I barely had any photos that were posed (I like to wave or throw up a peace sign or thumbs up with both hands, etc and smile at the camera) because by the time I noticed the photo people I was already too close I guess. I think they are on telephoto and then later in post processing crop and stuff to make it look like a close up photo. I just don't want to miss the opportunity to jump at the castle!!

From the January Half experience I have, you move off to the side to a specific area. It's just a wall of slow moving people at that point, many taking selfies and running into other people.

Every single one of my pictures going through MK in the two January Halfs I've done is me glaring or pulling a "not impressed" face. I'm a later corral, I'm slow, and I end up in a herd of people through the castle and I just want to get OUT and moving again.

All I wish for is the chance to be able to do Coast-to-Coast at some point, but it's nearly impossible on a teacher's schedule with only one personal day a year.

Labor Day weekend = Disneyland Half, so if your school starts *after* LD that could work. Is the January WDW marathon weekend too late for your post-xmas schedule?

I am assuming that what I've read is right, and the kid races and mile were moved back to WWOS where I've experienced them for January events. If so....

If I were trying that I would pick up ONLY DS's packet and then get back to the dash. Then on the way from the dash pick up the other packets and do the expo. The kid stuff is back behind the expo buildings, so you pass by them on the way to and from the fields. It's all a bit of a walk, and I personally would rather just focus on the person about to have his race, and get everyone else's later on.

It's very difficult but not impossible. One of the women in my group is a teacher and she usually flies in late Friday nights for races and flies home late Sunday afternoons. It's a fast turnaround but doable if you're only there for the run.

I have to say I really loved Avengers. While I was okay with the theming (I have seen all the movies with my kids) I picked it for my Coast to Coast simply because it worked with my schedule. But it really was a great time, and the courses (think you know them from DL races) were fun with so much support. I know you want to do NYC, and I hope you get in, but Avengers is a fun fallback!

rawthreads.com just sent out an email. Released their "Princess Mantra" series shirts:

I loved Raw Threads. My daughter (5k) and sister (10k & Half) picked our costumes this time and they don't really work with the choices, but I love the new designs. I've worn at least one of their shirts at each race weekend I've done. I keep hoping to see another sale too!

I didn't get a response from commenting on her instagram alone, I said what I wanted with my username, and then followed up with an email to her with my contact info for billing, which is on her posts usually. That she got right back to quickly. I understand the frustration though!

Hope all the Easterners' stay safe this weekend.

Did my 10 miles on the TM this morning since I will be in for a couple of day...already plenty of ice just north of Charlotte. I watch Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore...kept me entertained.
