Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Thanks for the tips! I might walk most of it if the heat is unbearable. I think it is probably the direct sun that gets most people. I'm used to the heat and humidity but add sun blinding me and it is miserable.

That bit on the runway is a killer. I don't know what was worse, that part or the part in the dense foliage (no breeze felt like running in a sauna). I ran it in May one year and thought I would die....

I was at the Wine & Dine Expo, and the PHM weekend medals were not available - they had past years' medals.

Hahahaha!
True! I didn't even think of that. You're 100% correct. I just remember seeing the WDW medals and the Star Wars medals and assumed that they were all future medals. But you're right, now that I think on it- Princess was definitely last year's medal.

I'm trying to decide if I want to run the Castaway Cay 5k when we are there next week. I've heard it can be really hot.

Ive run it every time I've been there (except for January this year since I did the paid 5k Challenge thing (and was too late to sign up for the free run once we were told they would have both that day)). It's not quite a full 5k but it's fun and I like it.

Do they have the 5k on every cruise that stops at Castaway Cay? I'm going on a cruise after Princess and I was thinking of running it just because it's there.

If they can dock they have it. I'd do it.

Quick question....does this race fill up very fast? We just did the 1/4 w&d and figured out 1) no more night runs for us and 2) although dh enjoys longer distances, 10k is best for me and 3) dd can run a 5k...enter princess weekend 2017...

So...if we are ready on day 1, we should be ok to sign up three people to three events before it fills up? W&d was over in 35 minutes...

Tia!

It does. Everything sold out really quickly...both Active.com and runDisney.com crashed.

I think if you're ready to go right when registration opens, and if you use separate devices to register people, you'll probably be okay. If not, you could always get bibs through charity/travel providers. :)

I registered on my iPad (I was traveling), so I wasn't able to save ANY CC info or anything, but I was able to register:

Me: GSC, 5K
Mom: 5K
BRFF: Half Marathon (Christmas Surprise!)
BRFF's daughter: 5K

In that order and had no problems. I was online ready to go right when registration opened.

Or if you're OK doing a package type of deal, and want to just get it over with, sign up with a travel provider BEFORE general registration. They do now require hotel booked through them (can't just buy the bib), so if you're flexible (not having to stay DVC or offsite etc) it can be a great way to just get it done and over with. I personally have purchased bibs (before rundisney started enforcing the package thing) from Acclaim Travel, but there are many others out there.

Could you message me the link too? I tried to Google it but couldn't find anything.

So someone gave me a link to use to input my flight information for DME online...I used it a few days ago and guess what I got in the mail today?? Magical Express tags for PHM weekend! Almost 4 months ahead of time! Craziness! :confused3

Registration goes pretty quickly. I think the GSC sold out in less than 2 hours this year, and the 10K was next. I'd have to look further upthread to find out officially when everything sold out, but pretty much everything was gone by close of business the first day, with the exception of the 5K.

I had taken off work the day of registration, was logged in through Active.com (I gave up on runDisney.com before registration even opened up, because their site was already being really buggy). Registration for 2 for the 5K, and me for the GSC was complete by 12:10pm. If you're really proactive about it, you should be able to get in.

Also, remember that AP & Disney Visa Card holders can usually register for this event about 2 weeks before registration opens for the general public.

Today's run has me yearning to buy a hot tub! My calves, ankles and feet are so sore and tired! I went on base to run the track and it was loose sand in most places and so muddy. Then I had to go up on the grass to go around the troops that were running. And apparently I went the wrong direction on the track but that probably ended up being good because then I could see the 50 soldiers coming at me instead of getting trampled.

My Galloway run this week is a speed workout I suppose, 800 meters 4 times. It seems weird to me to do so little mileage on my "long run day" but I suppose this speed work will help me in the long run (pun intended!). Have you guys done this training plan that calls for these? How did you like them? How much of a rest did you give yourself between sets? Did you run completely all out during those 800m? I'm interested to see how I like this plan! I would love to see my time drop a bit!

800's are run at a hard pace...5k pace with 400 meters in-between. I haven't done the Galloway plan, but other plans I have done call for 800's on one day and LR on another so I'm no help there. They do help though..at least I think so.

I've been working on my running outfit and I'm wondering if there is such a thing as too sparkly? I was at the fabric store and found material which is seafoam tulle with silver & pink sequins on it. Thought it would work for Ariel. Brought it home & sewed it up. Finished it this afternoon and put it on, walking to the mirror I passed the window where the sun was streaming in. Turned my skirt into a disco ball! Do you think that is too much? I don't want to blind the other runners! lol.

You can never have too much sparkle! Go for it!
I am sure you won't be alone!

Trust me...nothing is too elaborate or too sparkly! There is the whole range of outfits there.

When it comes to sparkes at Disney World...

Ok, I know that this year's the Princess is Ariel fir PHM weekend, but would it be horrifying if DS and I stuck with Cindy and Charming? My son went out on purpose to start gathering his costume for whomever he could come up with and ended with Charming. This was before we knew the theme and Princess for PHM weekend.

You can wear any costume you'd like for the races! :)

When we did the Royal Family 5K, we ran near men who were dressed as Anna and Elsa!! Continue on with your costume plans - they sound wonderful!
