Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

It was probably the bottle of wine we had last night that made us decide on this - but my husband & I are both doing the Glass Slipper Challenge next year. We're booked at AKV in a Studio as its the least amount of DVC points.

Awesome! Welcome welcome!

Finally found the thread!!!! I'm going for the Glass slipper this year !!! Wife is sitting this one out this year.

Joining in! I plan on running the 5k and 10k, my first official Disney races. :cool1: I have run the Castaway Cay 5k, but it's not an "official" race. ;) I just booked my DVC reservation, so now I just need to get into the races! I watched W&D sell out almost instantly, so I am nervous. This princess is ready to run!

Checking in. I did the Enchanted 10k this year as my very first run. I've run a few local races since Feb and I am addicted! I'm planning to run the GSC in 2016. My DD has been talking about doing the 5k, so I might end up doing all three runs.

I just realized that we will be at WDW during AP/DVC registration. Yikes! Hopefully I can figure out a way to do signup while we are there.

My sister and I are tentatively planning to do the Princess Half next year. I'm going to go ahead and book a room and we'll see how we feel about it closer to the registration date. It would be great motivation and a way to get out of New England in February! It also happens to be my sister's February break (she's a teacher) that week (February 22-26) so the timing works really well.

I'm thinking about getting a room at Coronado Springs. It will be just us without DHs or kids so I'm thinking less kid-friendly and more adult amenities like the health club and spa.

Or maybe Swan or Dolphin? Do folks have thoughts. Swan and Dolphin might be more convenient.

@srauseo I've only stayed at Coronado once and it was a quick overnight, but I liked it! I thought the room decor was really, really nice. And they have gelato at one of their quick service locations! My only issue was that the resort is so spread out that we ended up in a building that was very far away from the quick service/lobby. But they do have multiple bus stops, so that was good.

As for Swan & Dolphin - not sure how it works for Princess, but for Marathon Weekend in January S&D share buses with the Boardwalk and Yacht & Beach, so that is something to keep in mind. Having said that, I've stayed at BCV and BWV for Marathon Weekend and the bus sharing really wasn't that huge of a deal. I don't remember stopping at other resorts on the way to the races, but I do think we may have made stops on our way to the expo. And coming back, the buses always stopped at Swan or Dolphin first, so I'd just get off there and walk to my resort. ALSO - you may be able to get a discount at S&D since your sister is a teacher! I think they have those for teachers, nurses, etc. :)

This will be my very first race. I love Disney so much I figured why not at Disneyworld! I was originally just going to start out with a 5K but the more I read I think I want to do the half. But I change my mind several times a week. I just have to make my choice by July, lol.

I was where you are last year. I decided on the 10K as my first race ever. It was terrific, a long enough race to feel like a real challenge, but not so overwhelming as the half.

We had so much fun that I'm planning the next trip now. I want to do all three races!

I stayed at CSR during Princess this year, and it wasn't too bad. Just be sure to request a room close to transportation, that helped a lot. We were on the 4th floor, but it was okay because there was an elevator for immediately after the race, and later taking the stairs helped loosen tight muscles that didn't get a workout by just walking.

Count me in for the half!!! Ran PHM for the first time in 2014 and it was the best! Sitting out last year was so hard - I cannot miss it again! But I remember how hard it was training in the winter months, so I am looking forward to sharing tips and inspiration with you ladies. 9yo ds and I are doing a survival race in a few weeks, and he told me he wants to keep training to run the 5k with me at Disney and dress up as the Mad Hatter! I have a question regarding hotels, though. Does anyone have any experience running a disney race while staying offsite? Last time we stayed at the YC and it was awesome. However, it is so expensive with 4 dc - we have to get two rooms. I thought about just going with my oldest ds, my sister,(who I am trying to convince to run with me), and my 14yo niece, but my other dc are off that week for Feb break and I would feel very guilty leaving them home! Would staying offsite just be impossible on race day?

I don't know what it is like staying offsite, but would you consider staying at a value or moderate? It is very convenient staying onsite, but values and mods are much cheaper.

If you have a vehicle, offsite won't be too unreasonable. The races start and end in the EPCOT parking lot so that is where you would park.

I wouldn't stay offsite without a car though.

On busy weekend that aren't long trips, DS and I like to stay at POP. Longer trips I like POR for a mod. But POP is cheap and easy when we aren't spending a lot of time there. We will be staying there next month for SWW and the 24hr event. The pool is fine for the little bit we are there, the food court is decent and transportation is easy.

POR was rough on transport for 14 PHM, but we like staying there in general. Pool is nice, foot court is good...DS and I usually share the make your own pasta as it's a ton of food.

Starting to get into the Princess mindset over here...one of these beauties is on its way to my house this week! :) It's definitely not something I would normally go for (the princess design, not the Dooney...I LOVE Disney Dooneys!) but I just love it!

We are hoping for out first Run Disney event to be PHM! My husband will be my very own coach, running partner, pack mule and Prince Charming! Hoping for the early registration as we are both AP holders and DVC owners. Already booked @ VWL so just waiting for June 30th!

Okay, I think I'm going to go for it...solo trip for the GSC! I'm already gearing up for the W&D half, so I figured, why not just do it? (tm Nike) Looking forward to this thread for tips and encouragement. :flower1: I see a few familiar faces already. Hi, Keels.
