Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I will tell you - it sucks having to register so far in advance for these things. Not only do they go quickly, but buyer's remorse is strong with them. I'm still a little sad I'm only signed up for the DLH when I wished I would've done Dumbo. But, you know, we registered like back in January before I'd even really run a long race, so ...

Or before you'd been talked into, um, I don't know, Dopey? :)

@Ariel484 makes a lot of great points. I think it really comes down to what motivates you!

If you really are interested in GSC and he's not - maybe you do GSC and he does the half? I will tell you - it sucks having to register so far in advance for these things. I'll have to bring that up to him and see what he says, but I'm guessing he'll want to do whatever I do so that I don't get more medals than him haha! :rotfl2:

Hey everyone! This will be my first Run Disney event. I'm considering doing the Glass Slipper Challenge and having my daughter who will be 12 at the time do the 10k with me. I want to go to the expo right when it opens. When do you guys do the parks? Will walking around the parks the couple days before the races be too much? I just don't want to go to the expo then go right back to the hotel.

In a perfect trip I would get in the day before the expo starts, do that (you can literally spend HOURS on the hard concrete floors at the expo), then maybe get food somewhere and relax. Before and durin race day(s) go to the parks with food in mind, gentle touring in shoes that won't cause you issues, and just go easy. Relax, swim, relax some more. Them after my races are done THEN hit the parks. The first day will hurt but as the day goes on my legs loosen up and it feels better. But also taking time for Epsom salts baths and massaging the feet.

Thanks bumbershoot. Problem is my daughter doesn't want to miss too many days of school (weird kid haha) so there won't be the option of parks afterwards. Guess that means we just need to make another trip later next year!

That's the issue I run into with hubby. He can't take THAT many days off at once. And although we homeschool, DS is a dancer and can't be away for ages because of classes and rehearsal. Sigh.

This seems like really good advice! I'm hoping I can do something similar.

This morning, I ran my first official race of the year, a 10K, and even though it was super rainy, it got me excited for running a 10K and a half in the happiest place on earth! Having this big carrot of GSC at the end of my training stick is the best motivation ever!!!

Exactly this. If you can swing it, save heavy park touring for after the races or a different trip all together. Your body will thank you for it.

Hi all!
So ... there's a very slight (like 1%) chance that my sister and I may be doing the 5K. We did it last year and loved it, and we'd love to do it again.
Problem is ... we're doing marathon weekend (5K & 10K), and we just don't know if we'll be able to swing this one. But since the Princess 5K was our first runDisney race, it holds a special place in our hearts, and we really would love to do it again!

I figured I'd stop by and say hi on the off chance that we get the opportunity to go back for this race!

Hello, I have no experiences with runDisney events and have some questions I could not answer.
My wife, daughter and her bf would like to do the PHM in 2016. I am excited for any excuse to go to Disney and being the one that usually plans the trips I am left to research how everything works.

My concern is the talk of how quickly the event fills up. Does each person have to register separately or do they have a system for groups? If not is it likely we will be able to get all 3 registered? I assume we would need 3 computers all attempting at once?

I just don't know what we would do if we only managed 1 or 2 registrations especially since they are non-refundable.

Thanks

Yes, each registration is separate. Using multiple devices to get it done is a good idea.

It may be beneficial for everyone to set up accounts on Active.com ahead of time (less to type in during registration). And if you can't get them all done, you can always get bibs through Travel Agents or Charity Groups. :)

Bummer

Thank you that is good advice we will do that

How does that work?

Thank you so much for the advice, I am really hoping to make this happen for them. They want to run as a tribute to my MIL that passed away a couple months ago. She was an avid runner and had hopes of taking my wife and daughter on a Disney trip that just never worked out.

The packages aren't posted yet, but when they are you can find them here: http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/registration/

Right now there's a "Charity Groups" link. A "Travel Provider" link will pop up there at some point as well. Sometimes the Travel people require you to book a hotel room through them, some require booking an entire package (including tickets, etc.), so make sure you read up in what you'd actually have to book to get the bibs.

I hope it happens too! :) If it makes you feel any better, the Glass Slipper Challenge is most likely the one that will sell out first. Yes, the half will sell out quickly, but GSC will probably be a little crazier.

Has anyone registered for any of the Disney races through one of their travel providers? I'm wondering how that works. We have a group who would like to register together for the Glass Slipper challenge and I know one of the ladies mentioned registering through one of the travel providers.

@Keels has! :) (Yes I'm volunteering you to help)

I did this year for Glass Slipper at the beginning of August. I was required to book my hotel through them and have the hotel paid off 45 days before hand. This was through Get Travel. They then sent a link to an Active Registration Page after they processed our deposit (race fees + 1 night room)

Closer to registration there will be a list of Travel Providers at http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/registration/ --> right now there's a Charity Groups link but the Travel info isn't up yet.

They all have different requirements, so that's something that you'll want to pay close attention to. @Dis_Yoda has one example above. I just went to the WDW Marathon Weekend page and pulled up Marathon Tours (another big one in addition to GET Travel) - their requirements are to book the resort through them (at least 3 nights) and they have a limit of 2 entries per room. You can get discounted tickets through them.

Another example - another big one - is Acclaim Travel. They also require a 3-night minimum stay, but it doesn't look like there's a limit. And their deposit is race bib + $100, so a little different from GET.

So it's that kind of stuff that you'll want to look for when the GSC stuff is posted to figure out which one sounds right for your group. :)

I found the Charity Groups section of the registration information page and I see that it says "please contact one of the runDisney Charity Groups below to learn more." I can not find for the life of me find the list of charities however. I am blind or just stupid?

Neither! I just don't think they're up yet. :)
