Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Did anyone get the 'Run like a princess stuff'? I was looking for it today but it wasn't there :( I will check the tent at the races.

Had a great time at the 5k this morning - ran out of the front of A and posted my best 5k time to date ... rD or otherwise!

Wasn't too thrilled with the characters they had out, but I get what they were trying to do, theme-wise.

Took a long nap, went back to the Expo to get my bib issue resolved (yay!) and then had a long, leisurely lunch at Brown Derby.

If we get a LITTLE cut in the wind tomorrow morning, I'm very optimistic I will hit my 10k goal.

Expo was a breeze this morning! We arrived a little after 8:30AM despite the 9AM opening and everything was open and moving. We got our bibs, shirts and headed to the main expo. Picked up a Raw Threads Shirt, A new sparkle skirt, 2 new sweaty bands, and the medal pins. There was one shirt I would have bought if they had it in my size but they only had smalls (the princess version of the star wars shirt I'm wearing in the picture below)

We were done by 9:30 and hit the parks!

Got back from dinner around 6:45PM. Taped up my injury prone ankle and now hanging out in bed. Will be asleep soon for our early morning wake up for the 10K!

Yesterday I had a freak out that I had missed the 10k. Suddenly I thought the race was Friday and not Saturday. Today I had a freak out that I forgot my running shoes. Nope. Packed them three days ago. I swear I am. Ore nervous about this race than I was about my surgery last year.

We got to our hotel today and as we laid down to rest they started testing the fire alarm. One would have to be dead to not have heard that!

Dinner at portobello was just ok. Nothing to write home about and nothing worth trying a second time.

The freak outs are normal I think. I always freak out that I am going to miss my alarm and not wake up for the race. Luckily that hasn't happened.

I've done dinner at portobello twice I like it but it's not outstanding or anything.

The expo was still busy today. DD and I got over there about 12 to 12:30. Some of the official merchandise was still there and both areas were open. I liked that the GSC shirt pick up was over in the check in building. Looking forward to the 10K tomorrow morning. Lunch at BOG at noon then park time in the MK.

Everyone have a good run tomorrow.

We got to the Expo around 11am yesterday and it was busy but not crazy. The only thing I noticed when we were there was they had run out of the tank tops. I'm sure they restocked them after we left but I grabbed what I wanted and got the heck out of there. I was feeling claustrophobic. I got the GSC blue tech pullover, the blue GSC thick headband, and the GSC mickey ears car magnet.

Did the 5K this morning. We were in Corral A and it was nice not dealing with people walking 3 to 4 abreast like last year. LOVED the guy in the giant Sebastian costume in the Boardwalk area. He loved our costumes. A little disappointed in this year's snack box contents. Goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, mini Luna bar, coconut granola, and uhhh what looks like birdseed. I miss the years when they gave us hummus & crackers, or crackers & cheese spread, and mini Almond Roca.

I really miss that cheese spread. :(

Yeah but that Caramel corn is easily the best thing ever from a snack box... I'd take a giant bag of that all to myself

I really liked the 5k this year- having world showcase all in pinks was beautiful... Found the on course characters bizarre.. Having goofy & chip n dale in beach gear? I assume it was mermaid=beach but yeah if you don't want to put princesses put sidekicks or the fab in Royal gear..

We finished just under an hour so happy :)

You can actually get a big bag of that at Costco.

Completed my first 5K yesterday and absolutely loved it! This is wonderful! Thanks to all of you who answered my questions along the way leading up to yesterday. Now, I'm looking for a picture of the finish line. I took pics all along the way but didn't want to stop to take one of the finish line. Anyone have one that they're willing to share? I think I'm addicted now to rD events. I had such a good time!!! Thanks!

10k went well. I ran more than I have ever run during training but I lost five minutes waiting for the toilets. Then I was nearly swept. Thanks to you guys, I recognized the buses and the pacers on bikes. They said to get moving and the people in front of me were not moving fast enough. I got kind of rude and pushed through because I wasn't about to get swept because someone else didn't care. Didn't get any photos on the course because the lines were waaaaaay too long.

CM DD and I had a fun 10K! The Character Event office is in the Epcot backstage portion of the run so I met all of her co-workers and had a photo taken with them! That was pretty cool to see where she is based work-wise.

Hope everyone had a great 10K!

Not much chatter...hope that means everyone is having fun.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow.
I plan to follow the two hour pace group. Talked to the leader at the expo today and she will be in corral C ,front right hand side...hope I can keep up. Looks to be good weather too!

I had a great race too! Went into it thinking I was going to start intervals at mile 4 but ended up running the whole thing. So proud of myself. I was a little disappointed the character lines seemed long but I probably wouldn't have stopped anyways, I was too afraid I wouldn't be able to start running again lol. Thanks everyone for your advice and answers to my questions leading up to this! I have great respect for those doing the half/glass slipper, hope you all have an awesome race tomorrow!!!

Congrats to everyone who has the 5k/ 10k under their belt :teeth:!

I am sick as a dog. I haven't been sick since 2014, not even a cold. By 7pm last night I left almost my entire lobster at Narcoossees because I felt so awful, which obviously nobody in their right mind should ever have to do lol. Somehow got kiddo to bed before my mom and hubby came back from dinner, then rolled around in a feverish fit until the fever broke at around 2am. I didn't bother trying to sleep after that. I told myself I could walk part of the 10k if necessary but ended up running it. Loved the characters, hated the lineups. Can't nap because I have an intensely excited, MK-focused six year old to contend with, though he has settled on a resort afternoon compromise. I am so frustrated and genuinely have no idea what to do tomorrow. I might actually have to end up walking some or even all of the half if I am still this sick, but I'm pretty sure if I tried to walk the whole thing, I'd be swept, right? I am so sad that I won't be able to run it as planned but at this rate if I can manage to show up I feel it's a victory. I can't eat anything because my stomach is not well, but I can't try to run a half after not eating for over a day.

Sorry to vent- I'm just super disappointed :(. First world problems, I know.

Been there...really nothing you can do but give it a try. It is always a worry for me, getting sick after the hard work. 2011 I came down after a short illness, my daughter showed up and was throwing up..and next day I was violently throwing up in the afternoon. The evening I Managed to down an oatmeal cookie, my daughter drank a soda. In the morning we each had a juice. The excitement carried us half way through ok. We both finished....finished. Hope you are able to pull through.

With all the rules of what you can and cannot use during a race, I was surprised to see someone allowed to use those speed walking poles. I would much rather run along side someone's highly trained, certified guide dog than risk being tripped by poles.

I didn't see that, but I did see someone dressed as Scrooge with a cane. Really?!

I would try to sleep as much as you can. If you have a fever, try to sweat it off while you sleep (pants, sweatshirts, blankets, etc.) try ginger ale and crackers if you can get them down. Anything is better than nothing. And as far as tomorrow goes, just know you will not be able to go 100%, but that's ok. Keep a steady pace (even if it's a brisk walk) and take Powerade at every stop. You will be amazed how far determination + adrenaline can get you. Best of luck to you!
