Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

So in planning for merchandise, I'm definitely going for a Dooney but was thinking of NB's too. I saw one person say they thought the Vazee's contributed to their ankle/knee pain. Anyone else run in them or the 860's? I think the 860's (v5? v6?) are this years Mickey/Minnie shoes.

I have some 980's I love for anything under a 10k but not cushioned enough for my forefoot much past 8 miles. I got Tinks at W&D last year but they've only been my indoor shoe so I'm nervous to take them into Princess....

Maybe I'll just fall back into my Newtons....

I tried on the NBs at Marathon weekend and ... they weren't for me. There is a LOT of "plastic" on them on the outside, if that makes sense. Plus, I didn't like that they basically put the character on a tab on the back instead of leaving all the clever hints and allusions to who they could be themed for.

10 miles on Saturday... 11:58 pace. The temps have seriously dropped in Maryland so I'm glad I was able to get one good long run in outside. Everyone feeling ready? About a month to go!!!
Beachta1- where in MD are you? I'm in Eldersburg (Carroll County). Nice to see a neighbor on here!

Doe any one know the site to print you forms and bib numbers. this is my first 5 k in February and I have no idea what I'm doing. your assistance is greatly appreciated .

There will be links from the rundisney page. There will also be links here, as people go to the webpages from before and figure out what it should be this year. :)

FWIW I printed nothing for last weekend's events, and it was all just fine. Went to the packet pickup area at the expo, went to the computers, and in less than a minute the 3 of us had printed out our waivers and we were off to the bib pickup areas. Then it was off to get our shirts and to experience the expo.

Could very well be. The shoes they sell don't work for all feet. I'm intrigued by the neutral shoe, but it's still WAY more cushioned than my feet like, so it probably won't work for me. (running on pillows freaks out my feet LOL...probably by the time I'm 50 I'll be in huaraches or something similar) We all have individual feet, and our feet have different needs, and sometimes honoring that means we don't get to partake in the cuteness of the shoes.

I have races scheduled for the next three Saturdays. It is supposed to snow this weekend! I have no idea how to dress for running in snow flurries... in Georgia!

Just got the email that our Magic Bands have shipped! They should be here Saturday! Woohoo!! :dogdance: I will say this: their shipping & tracking is much better than last year. We got our MB shipment notification the day before our MBs were delivered last year, lol.

@Babe199838 - No waivers or corral assignments have been released yet. runDisney's website states that those will be released approximately 2 weeks before race weekend, so we have a bit of a wait yet. I'd say Feb. 4th or 5th at the latest.

@Panikim - I wouldn't say that PHM is getting forgotten so much as they're getting it more squared-away and organized than years past. All of the runDisney races occur in the (somewhat) cooler months Sept-May, which lessens the amount of time they can cram in races throughout the year since it would be way too hot to host a race weekend in June-July-August. And with the advent of My Disney Experience, Magic Bands, FP+, etc, I'm sure that rD is trying to keep up with the times, as well as meet the growing demand for more and more races. I highly doubt that PHM is under threat of losing its place in the runDisney grand scheme. It's much too popular, especially for those who have run every PHM since it started in 2009 (Perfect Princessses).

Thank you everyone for your replies about training and running in the snow!
Unfortunately, I get vertigo on treadmills, so that is a no go for me. And my housing development is small, which means we don't get plowed for a while. So I hope I will be able to get out sunday afternoon and get the full 11 miles in (if the roads are safe enough) but I will try and get what I can get in. I have done every run up to now so I am up to 10 miles and I have enough weekends left to do either 11 or 11.5 miles... So I know I can do the distance. I just had a good plan!! Time to learn how to be flexible

BTW, I am a sucker for the NB shoes, but not to run in. But they are so cute... I am looking forward to the capri pants they have introduced this year at the other races!

They gave me knee pain, but I need more of a support shoe so if you usually run in a neutral shoe you might be okay with them! They were so comfortable and I loved them, so I was sad that they didn't work for me. I saw NB is releasing the Vazee Prism as the same style but as a support shoe, so I'm going to give those a try!

Exact same here! I'm so excited to get them! Now all I'm waiting on are my mermaid ears :earsboy:

OK, trying to read through al the posts, but there are a lot! 1) glad to hear that a break in training wont mean we can't race! Christmas and illness was TOUGH on us! No training at all! Ran for the first time this week and did great though! Hoping to keep up with it! Either way, Hoping my body says you can do it and does great during the 10K! 2) What info do I need before I leave for my trip?? I thought i'd show up with ID and they'd get me everything. 3) Although we have to back my son out of the kid ace now, will he still get his shirt?

Our Magic Bands came yesterday! :) But still haven't received our Magical Express tags. And DD26 still has to mail mine to me after she gets them so they are cutting it close (we leave 2/14). I guess I will have to call them again today. It seems like every trip requires 2 phone calls for them.

I ONLY wear 860's to run in! I was fitted at my local running store and it made the biggest difference for me - those in conjunction with smartwool socks! I have a couple pairs of 860s that I trade back and forth between so I dont wear them all out at once. I tend to pronate when I run and these shoes corrected my issues (no more blisters!) people have specific needs for running shoes, much like running bras, so they may not be for you.

Hey you! Am I to assume based on the new user pic that the marathon weekend went well for you?! That's a lot of bling! :D

I usually run in a neutral shoe. I am a complicated foot when it comes to biomechanics. I need cushioning much much more than I need correction. Even mild amounts of correction (I tend to supinate through gait but have a flatter arch over all) either for general arch support or to correct pronation/supination sends my body into hysterics. I have a small list of shoes I can run in. So far, the Tinks have not been bad to me. But with the weather, I haven't taken them outside. My Newtons are great, but if I take walk breaks; I'm not efficient at walking in them.

I think a lot of my ankle/tendon problem was my Nike Free's, which are neutrals. They, like the Newtons are made for a forefoot strike and since I do run/walk intervals I spent too much time walking in them. They have almost zero cushioning at the heel, where you naturally strike while walking. I am saving them for races only now and training in my Brooks.

Small world. Whenever I see people with WDW or RunDisney stickers on their car, I want to stop them and talk to them. Is that creepy? Haha.

When I did my residency, I lived in Baltimore. I don't know if it's just because I was going to the parks and stuff more (and so kind of 'aware' of it more) or what; but it seems a LOT of people in MD are into Disney and rD in general. And I too would want to stop and talk to them, but never did. I thought they'd think I was some sort of weird creepy stalker.

If you don't pre-print your race waiver before you arrive, there will be computers at packet pick-up that you can use to print off your waiver. Your waiver will have your bib number on it, and you just go to the booth with your bib number range and present your waiver & photo ID, and they will provide you with your bib, GEAR bag with bag tag that matches your bib number, and safety pins. Then you head into the Expo to pick up your shirt. I'm not 100% sure about your kids races question, but maybe someone else who is more familiar can answer that one.
