Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

My husband does not approve of this freedom - he's with you and is always bugging me to carry more. :)

:)

Can I make a suggestion that might work for you and make your hubby happy? RoadID. I bought the basic one. Silicone type band with a metal thing with info on it. I have my name and birth year, hubby's name and phone number, a drug allergy I have, and a quote ("a lot of work for a banana") on it.

Makes dh happy that I have that extra bit of info on me that is unlikely to fall off if I'm hit by a car etc.
!

THIS /\

Road ID is what I got maybe 2 1/2 years ago. I have the sports band. It is fabric with Velcro. Metal plate has name, town, 3 family I C E numbers and brief med info. Never leaves my wrist. 20 dollars well spent.

I have stayed at SoG for Princess Weekend (think it was '13) There was race transportation right at the front of the resort for the expo and the races.
I know they had it for 2015 because my friend used it.

Someone asked about SOG. While I don't have an answer, I have an experience with people who don't know. I had a CM at SSR, during W&D, tell me that SSR isn't a host resort and there would be no transportation to the events. I tried to point out the signs in the lobby etc but he was just so sure that he ignored it. SSR was absolutely a host resort; it's why I booked it. (January and Princess events, all onsite resorts are hosts, but it's not so for other events)

The SOG employee might be that CM's sibling. ;)

Hahaha! It isn't like these things are thrown together willy nilly so I don't get how people can not know the answers!

Yesterday was a much needed rest and pamper day. I got a massage and my girl found knots I didn't even know I had. I joke with her that I hurt worse when I leave than when I went in. And then a pedicure where this teeny tiny woman beat on the knots that had just been worked out and helped that sore tendon in my heel feel better. Today I walk.

In regards to post-race meals: my stomach usually isn't ready for a full meal until at least an hour after I finish the half. I just stick to the snack box, water, and maybe a glass or two of champage at the finish line party. At 2015's PHM, my fiance and I had such a great time hanging out and watching the runners cross the finish line, warming ourselves in the sunshine (the first warm day of our trip!), and drinking beer (him) and champage (me). I'm pretty certain they'll have a beer & wine tent at the concessions this year, too, if not more than one.

In regards to touring the parks alone: I've done this several times, and I love it! Getting to slowly meander the parks and really soak in the atmosphere. I've ridden HM solo before, and it got stuck right at the neverending hallway with the floating candlestick - I was so spooked! Plus, you can't beat the perks of the single rider lines. Heck yes.

Luv2Run, could you please add me to the roster for half marathon and the 5K? Thanks!!
Got you down!

One thing I've been struggling with almost my entire running life is the second toe on my left foot. It's like the nail catches on my sock when I run, so it gets sore and bruised. It doesn't matter how short I trim it (the nail bed has actually backed up a bit because of this) or if I put on a band-aid or body glide to reduce friction, it still gets really irritated. It doesn't pain me during my runs (thank goodness), but it does get awfully sore afterwards, to the point where it starts to throb and sometimes I can't even have a blanket over my foot when I sleep. I'm concerned that someday I'm going to have to have it removed. :( My other toes are fine, it's just that one. It's so strange.

Running 9 tomorrow! How many of you have some of your longer runs coming up? I like to taper off 2 weeks or so before the race, so trying to get a few more 9-10 milers in before the end of the month!

I'm planning on 11 this weekend... not sure which day it'll be since they are calling for rain!

I have 10 miles..probably tomorrow. I am watching the weather and really want to get outside and not the TM. I am considering a TM outside mix. I will make my last long run around Jan 29th ( about 12 miles) and then cut back.

How's that skirt coming along?

I'm doing 3 miles tomorrow, and 6 on Sunday. Bumping it up to 7 miles on the 17th, then a back-to-back 4 mile/8 mile the following weekend, 9 miles on the 30th, then another back-to-back 5 miles/10 miles the weekend following that, and then it's a taper with 6 miles on the 14th. Past experience has taught me not to up my mileage too quickly because I'll risk injury, and that I only really need to work up to 10 miles to feel confident on race weekend.

Great! So I totally forgot I own a running skirt. I just never wear it. I'm going to cut out three big pieces of the purple fabric I bought and pin that around the skirt. I'll have them overlap and leave some room so I can run with ease. I also bought black sparkly fabric and cut out 8 legs. I'm not sure if I'll pin, glue or sow the legs onto the purple fabric. It should come together, I need to find my glue gun to test out if that will work. I've been ripping my house apart looking for it!

Speaking of mimosas...the 5k had a booth of champagne and beer today. Will we get that for any of the princess races?
It was definitely there after the PHM. I don't remember seeing it the other days, but I was not looking. It's the same vendor set up each day, so I'd guess it's there. Husband had it waiting for me after my first half in 2014. My first though was, it's barely 8 am, and I'm dehydrated. But I made it disappear surprisingly quick;).

Next week the Galloway plan has me doing 15, then two weeks later 17! I really doubt I will do the 17, it just doesn't seem necessary for me (the plan I'm doing is "improve time"). There is a reason I haven't bit the bullet and done a full marathon yet!

Anyway, I think I have just suffered my first little injury of the training season. My right knee has started to give me a lot of pain! I am of course, terrified for the implications of this! Today, I plan to ice and rest and hope that it feels better tomorrow! Wish me luck!

I'm getting a little nervous about this. All my runs have been on the treadmill lately. It's just been too cold or dark to run outside. Everything I read says you need to get some pavement miles in and not make a sudden switch. I'm just not sure I'll be able to. We are planning on doing a short, easy run around the resort on Friday morning but I'm guessing that's not enough.

So this is my 5th half marathon and I've never run more than 10 during training. Would you recommend it?

This may not be your problem at all but I thought I would share anyway just in case.

I sometimes get pain in my left knee after running. I have found it to be related to a tight IT band (that runs down the outside of your thigh). If I use a foam roller after my run it makes a big difference for me.

For you experienced Run Disney peeps: RE: hotel: We are a Run Disney/DVC family, but usually stay at Old Key West. Currently, we are booked at Bay Lake Tower, so the monorail beam will be our primary mode of transportation on race weekend. What are some pros and cons of staying at a resort with the monorail verses using the bus transportation?

I have 11 planned for tomorrow.

I am due to run 11 on Sunday. Then 12.5 on the 23rd and 14 on the 6th. On the Galloway plan.

Also faollowing the Galloway plan so I'm on track with you I think. Although for Wine & Dine I only ran up to 13.

Ugh, it is supposed to rain here all morning tomorrow so even if I get up at 5 to run like I do during the week I will get caught in the rain. Not excited about that! But I don't really have time for 11 miles on Sunday before church. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks! I will try that! Admittedly, I am not that great at taking care of my body post run. I do a few stretches and that's about it. I know I should be doing more.
