Official 2016 - Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend

I signed up for the half on Thursday. I am still in disbelief that the race and the challenge(?!?!) are still open. I couldn't turn down some absolutely killer airfare.

The draw of running in Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World and Disneyland in seven weeks was just too much of a draw. And I didn't want to end my coast to coast streak.

I am hoping that the winds will not be as strong as during the first Avengers' half.

How's everyone doing on their training and more importantly, their costumes? :rotfl2:

I have been feeling really good with all of my runs lately. I've been following a very convoluted version of Galloways beginner plan/couch to 5K. I am hitting 17 min/mile just walking, which for me is amazing since I would not have been able to do that 6 weeks ago. I'm hoping to get up to 16 min/mi at the very least before the race.

As far as my outfit, I just ordered my SparkleSkirt, arm sleeves, and hair bow. I'm sure quite a few of you know this already but in case you don't, the people at SparkleSkirt are the most amazing people to work with!!!! Bend over backwards to help you out. I had planned on buying arm sleeves for my Winter Soldier costume but they had taken them down from the website a couple of weeks ago. I emailed them yesterday and had both Leah and Sharon (lovely ladies in charge) email me back saying that they had some sleeves left and would be able to imprint the red star on the silver sleeve for me. The option of the sleeves popped back up on the website this morning and I already have a shipping notification. Sweetest ladies to work with and they are very thrilled to help novices such as myself. I can't wait to try everything on!

I am so ready for this insanity! Princess Hulk is ready to run the 10K, then board a plane to Vegas for RNR Vegas 5K that night and the Half Marathon the next evening.

I just need to order my purple skirt to go over the hulk shorts... probably about the right time to toss in the order. Still hoping that Disney will randomly find 1-2 extra 5K entries so I can earn that darn Capt America medal.

Your costume sounds awesome! I hope I run into you to see it.

I can't believe you are going to do all of that in one weekend! Mad props to you and I hope all your races go well!

Magical Miles found a few more bibs for the Cap 5K - but they're $105. No park tickets or hotel required - i'm on the fence. Boo.

One side of me - I know RunDisney is expensive and $105 is definitely expensive for a 5K. How much do you want the medal and is it worth it to do the 5K with all of the other races you have going on that weekend?

Other side of me - Do it!!!! Do it!!! :rotfl2:

Exactly how I feel right now! Knowing that it's a busy race weekend but... Captain America's Shield!

If it was $80 I'd do it. But once over the $100 mark it's too pricey for an untimed race around the park. Sigh!

I'm kind of glad I booked my airfare getting in on Friday before the Captain America's Shield medal was announced, I know I would want it so bad that it would mean registration and one more night of hotel. Now I just tell myself too bad !!!!

Does anyone else feel like they are releasing the Corrals and Event Guide later and later with every race?

I've been following the Galloway training suggestions, and I'm really liking it a lot. I'm registered for the 10K (DH is doing the challenge). Right now my 30min maintenance runs 2/x week are pretty consistently at right about a 13:50 average pace, and appx 2.2-2.3 miles or so. I am a little behind on the endurance runs, and just did the 5 mile this past Monday. Managed to keep a 15:15 pace (that includes a 5 min walk as a warm up). I'm doing a run 1 min/walk 1 min approach. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish, even if I can't stop for characters...I really want to cross the finish line and not get swept!

As for costume, I went more with the "Super Hero" idea than the Avenger idea. I'm doing a Sailor Moon running costume. Blue running capris/white running shirt w/sailor collar and bow, a button for her transformation brooch, her earrings...my mom's making boot cover type things that should work with my shoes too. I know it's not Disney, but I think it's going to be pretty comfortable overall and maybe a bit unique too.

I read something about sunglasses earlier in the thread...is that something that I should plan on for the 10K?

Do they announce the corrals before you get there? DH has done runDisney races before, and he said you find out when you get there and pick up the packet? Is he missing something?

Typically, runDisney releases bib numbers and corrals for the half marathons (and sometimes the 10k races) about a month before the races. They also used to release the online event guide, which included the final course maps, around the same time. Over the past year or so runDisney has really scaled back on their online and social media activity (at least in my opinion), and it seems that has included releasing the bib, corral, and course information much closer to the race day.

I agree. Even though it isn't really going to change anything if I have the info 6 weeks or 2 weeks before the race, it does make me less anxious.

I would suggest taking them. The rising sun can be awful to run into. And if you finish before the sunrise, it will be nice to have them as you do the post race stuff and get back to your room to freshen up.

Yes. Also missing when they'd post the "I'm training for" social media banners. Hope we get course & corral info soon!

I was so hoping they would have continued doing the banners! I was looking forward to them. :sad1:
I seriously hope they release some information soon! However, with the way it's looking for W&D, we aren't going to get anything anytime soon. :sad2:

Wow! It sounds like you are ready for the 10K! I love your costume! That sounds so cute! Please post photos if you can after the race!

I am so excited!!! I got my SparkleSkirt and arm sleeves last night!!! I admit, I was a little skeptical on claim that the shorts wouldn't ride up but I tried it on last night and did a little running/walking around my place and they didn't!!! I am officially a convert! My hair bow should be coming in today and all I need is a black tank which is proving to be the hardest thing ever to find! :confused3

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for a black tech tank? Ever since Sports Authority closed, I haven't been able to really find anything (my brother was the manager of our local one and his store always had the best apparel selection). I tried our local Dick's last night and they have hardly anything to look at. Any other ideas that I might be overlooking?

I'm definitely a lot more confident that I'll be able to finish it than I was a few months ago! I just hope I'm still able to enjoy the parks afterwards!

I'll definitely take a few pictures and try to post them after the race :)

Thanks! I'll make sure I have them with me!
