Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Do you think this race might be on the chopping block?
It seems like it has struggled for several years now- esp after moving to Mother's Day.
And not selling out the half seems to confirm the struggle. I am flying in just for the 1/2 since it was still open after GSC.
But Mother's Day has been a killer for me- I would not be able do this race (or the challenge weekend) again because of the timing.
Not just because Mother's Day but May is SUPER busy for most people with kids in school.
I was planning on bringing my whole family for the long weekend before the moved the date.
RD has canceled other more popular races for minor reasons before.
Like Tower of Terror- they could have modified the course instead of axing the whole race.

If it weren't for the Avengers race, I would think maybe it would be b/c the weekend has been moved 3 times and it's slower to sell out. But Avengers is even slower, I checked yesterday and only the 10k and kids races were sold out for AP reg. I think that would go now before Tink. And for DL in Sept, both the 1/2 and DDD are still open. Part of it is that the prices have gotten really high, I think people are just picking and choosing more.

I wonder if it's also the weekends selected for the Disneyland races. Mothers Day and Labor Day are big travel weekends or family weekends - the last thing people want to do is run races on those weekends. Having Super Heroes/Avengers (whatever) the weekend after Wine and Dine is just too condensed.

What they need to do is pick different weekends and/or reduce the number of races. (I've also said they need to rebrand Super Heros or Tink to Villains... just saying). Right now there just may be either too many OR the timing of them don't work out in the long run. I'm perfectly fine that DDD was still open because I was able to register for it about 3 weeks ago and I'm doing that race instead of RNR Virginia Beach.

I kind of like that the race is not sold out. Makes it less crowded. I agree with Kim, though. More races (Too many, I think) to choose from and they are super expensive for what has now become novelty races. I also don't think their intent is for the same people to run all the races. Spreading it throughout the year makes it available to new people, with different schedules. Mother's Day is not a deal breaker for everyone. Unfortunately, the summers in California and Florida force them to cram things together. I think they will keep evolving, which can be good or bad.

I think Tink is safe from the chopping block, but I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they change weekends again. The reason I think its safe is because its basically a race marketed more towards women, just like Princess is in Florida. They're kinda like Sister races.

I think part of the reason for the slower sell out is due to it being on Mothers day, which is the reason I didn't do it last year. I made an exception this year for the 5th anniversary but its not a trip I'll be able to commit to each year. May is too busy and Mothers Day just doesn't work well for me. Another reason I think it and Avengers were slower to sell out is basically that there are 4 races in Disneyland now. Most people either dont want to do all 4 or can't afford to do all 4. So we get to be choosier about which ones we decide to do each year. I know for myself, I'll continue to do SW every year basically because that weekend works best for me. If they move Tink back to MLK weekend in January (or another race to that weekend) then that is the race I will do annually. Avengers, Tink and DL Half I'll do when the dates work for me.

Non-Tink related, but is everyone else having problems w/ the Events Threads? On my computer, it shows N/A on last poster on the main page and only 47 pages, but when I click on the last page it goes to page 1. Is it just my old computer or these threads?

They moved all of the threads to a new runDisney forum to make it easier to find.

I just can't decide. Do I want to upgrade my 10k bib to a PDC bib? If it was any other weekend, I would do it, but I just hate the thought of running on mother's day. I did PDC + 5k last year, and by Sunday I was a zombie. What to do...

I actually like the fact that it's over Mother's Day weekend. This is my first time doing this race but all of my Mom's side is from Southern Cali so it's perfect timing to go visit the family and spend time with Mom watching me run and go to the parks. She's never been to one of the races before so she's in for a treat. She bought the Platinum Chear Squad package for the half so that'll be good. I even got us into the Afternoon Tea on the 7th! She hasn't been to Disneyland for years so she's pretty excited!

Sorry if this is a silly question, but how do you upgrade? PDC wasn't available when I registered and I was a little disappointed.

You're in for a treat - it's really good. I had the "Perfect Afternoon" tea and loved how it paired with the food. Imagine a lighter version of an English Breakfast tea. Didn't sit heavy at all!

If travel agents still have bibs available you can upgrade through them. I'm pretty sure there's a fee involved ...

Oh, interesting. I didn't realize that was a possibility. I'll have to make some calls on Monday. Thanks!

I like it over Mother's Day weekend, too - it's something my mom and I got to share last year and we're doing it again this year. I think we both enjoy getting to spend the time together. Mom usually runs the 10k and I run the challenge, which means I'm at the finish for the 10k for her and she's at the half finish for me.

I've only really been paying attention to the thread in the Disneyland forum, but thought I'd finally pipe up here.

I'll be doing the PDC again and talked my mom into letting me purchase a 10K bib for her as a mother's day present. Also will be getting my blue C2C (would be pink, but I couldn't justify paying for the Princess Half or GSC after paying for the Dopey... Currently trying to decide which I'm doing next year).

Count me as one of those that mother's day weekend works the best for me. It's my birthday weekend and my mom is my Disney buddy so it works perfectly. I really hope it doesn't move again anytime soon. May isn't not busy for either of us, but we make the days work. But I think they'd sooner move it than remove it.

Well spring is here and baseball season is underway so last week and this week its been impossible to get my 2 runs in during the work week. I'm just managing the one during the work week and then the longer run on the weekend. I know I'll be fine as I just did RnR SF a week ago but still, I don't like slacking on my shorter runs this close to the Half! Anyone else? I've already looked into next week and that week looks better and I know I can get my 2 week night runs in then.

I'm right there with you, I have 2 in soccer and of course their practices can't be the same day. I tried to get a jogging stroller so I can run with the little ones during the day but that wasn't for me. I see other moms run around the fields while their kids practice I might have to try that.

I'm very excited and my Mom is a tea drinker so it's perfect! Our reservation is at 12:45 so I'm wondering whether to get the Classic Afternoon tea or upgrade to the one with a salad and champagne (because who doesn't want champagne? lol). I'm also wondering whether or not to get lunch before or if the set-up we get will be enough. My Mom isn't a huge eater so I think she might be fine. I'm thinking we'll get breakfast after the 10K and then be fine for tea time.
