"Official" 2015 MNSSHP thread

We will be attending MNSSHP on November the 1st! This is not our first trip to Disney but our first MNSSHP! We are also new to the DIS board! There will be myself, DH, DS8, DD5 and DS2 almost 3 attending and we are undecided on our costumes. We have reservations at Whispering Canyon at 1:30 but my DH thinks we should eat in the park so we don't have to rush around. Any thoughts?

We ate around that time last year and were really dragging around the fireworks. The year before and this year we are eating in the park around 5/5:30, to keep energy up!

Oh, if anyone is upset about the reduced villains at the party, the best thing to do is to send an email voicing your displeasure to disney. If you don't, nothing will be changed and disney won't even know how many people care.

Thanks to all who weighed in on Hocus Pocus. We'll rent it and I'll monitor my DD8 closely. She's really a scary cat. Still cannot watch Harry Potter movies; gets totally freaked out, but it sounds like Hocus Pocus is more of a comedy, so it may be OK for her.

Thank-you for the quick and helpful reply! My children are troopers on occasion and love the drive-in in the summer but I don't want them burnt out for the fireworks! I just booked The Plaza at 5:10pm. Have you tried this restaurant before?

We ate at the Plaza last October. We all enjoyed the food. Eating there puts you a good position to ride Buzz after and get photo's in your costumes(on Buzz and photos people if you want), all before the party even starts!

I am an adult with two kids and still get excited when Hocus Pocus come on TV. It has always been a favorite of mine. There is some adult humor that went over my head as a child, and my children didn't notice either. It was never scary IMO, but I also thought Chucky and IT were pansies when I saw those movies as well.

No princes this year, that's been confirmed by the Parks Blog. Also, Mickey and Minnie have had separate M&Gs the past few years.

I never would have liked this as a child although my 2 younger sisters LOVED it. They were braver as kids than I was....I had a healthy fear of lots of things, though. I guess this just shows that all kids are different! Now, as an adult, I really enjoyed the movie and am quite excited to see the show at MNSSHP. There is plenty in the movie that is appealing as an adult.

We plan to eat lunch at BOG at 12:25 then do a counter service as it gets later (before actual party time). I don't want to waste any precious party time eating

I've heard jack and Sally are delightful to meet. How about this character strategy.

Pick 7 dwarves or jack and Sally line up around 530. You'll be one of the first to meet them and you won't lose party time. Members of your group can take turns waiting and going off and doing fun stuff.

After that is done have one or two other must do characters or groups of characters. Play the rest by ear. If the line looks short (it always could be, even on Halloween, some of the characters only have ten-fifteen mine waits) hop in. Just keep in mind, you'll have the rest of your trip for rides you might miss.

I always wondered if this was acceptable. I will say at MVMCP 2 years ago we were in line at 7 Dwarfs by 6pm and it appears there was only 5 or so families ahead of us. Then, a few minutes before 7 a herd (and I'm talking a dozen people, at least and not a one of them were children) came in and joined one of the people in line in front of us. I'm guessing they were one big group of friends or extended family but they broke up into several groups for pictures as there is no way that many people would fit in one photo with the Dwarfs. I just wondered if everyone were to do that I'm guessing things could take a lot longer than expected. I can certainly understand needing to entertain small children with rides and such as I suppose towards the end of the line the wait would be up to an hour and even more....but adults? Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this.

My FP is at midnight tonight. How are you all fitting in three FP reservations between 4-7 if they end at 6:30? Is there a trick or am I only able to do two?

I set ours for 3:30-4:30, 4:30-5:30, and 5:30-6:30 with our 3:30s being rides that are as close to park entrance as possible (and we're also willing to miss them if for some reason the 4pm entrance line is insane & we don't make it in time).

Personally, I'm ok with it... I'm the line holder. I'd rather have other people's potentially cranky children enjoying rides while Mom or Dad holds the line for 1+ hour. Having said that, there's just 2 of us. But it would irk me if what OP saw happened, where a line holder was holding it for 10-12 adult friends. Seems like a few of them could have held the spot, even if it meant taking turns, just so others waiting in line would have an idea they might have a longer wait than they're anticipating. But that's more a personal thing with me...there's nothing different in this situation than if it's a parent holding the place for the family.

Just be careful, because we did the same thing last year and, if memory serves me correctly, they cancelled our 3:30 FP because our MNSSHP tickets didn't cover the front end of that FP.

The MNSSHP ticket is recognized as a one day MK ticket. It doesn't matter to Disney when you schedule them.

I think the kids would love to meet Buzz! We have 7 day park hopper passes but didn't get a park hopper pass for party day because we are going to the park at 4:00. It would only be 42.60 more to add an extra day of tickets and get to the park at 12ish. Would this be better because we could eat a table service lunch and just grab quick service for dinner?

We could get an extra day park hopper passes for only 42.60 more and get to the park early for a sit down lunch and eat quick service dinner or snack. Is that what you would recomend?

For reference, I went back into our emails and our FP alert cancellation notice was for MNSSHP Oct 28, 2014 POTC 3:30 pm. The impression I got was because our tickets didn't cover the front-end of the FP...

Was it an actual cancellation or was it due to the ride being down? PotC went down several times on our Oct trip last year.

If you mean do we have a park hopper for our party day, we do.
We have a package with a hopper so we plan to enter MK at the early EMH at 8am. I know it'll be a super long day but it's only the two of us. Our plan is to eat breakfast in our room and be at MK at rope drop.......lunch at BOG a little after noon then eat a quick CS sometime before they all start closing, lol!

I really like The Plaza and think that's a great time. I have 5:30p there for our party night. Looking forward to sitting in the air conditioning for a while. They made my sister a patty melt last time. Good food at a reasonable price.
