Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Training hit the skids here. Sprained my ankle weekend before last during a trail race. Big time swollen and bruised(even my toes were black and blue). Still some swelling but finally able to do a short run today. I'm a week off schedule now. Not a big deal really, just annoyed with the ankle.

Hope everyone's training is moving along. Be here before we know it. :)
Ice is your friend to get that swelling out. Take care.

Yeah, I haven't seen that many people races weekends in the black and white NBs. :rotfl2:

I love the Tink shoes! The main reason I got them was b/c I loved the neon green and yellow and when I found out they glow... :faint:

A tie in would be nice and would awesome! But as much as I would love that, I think that could be a little to race specific if they don't sell out; they have all the leftovers.

Training is going here. I'm kind of at a crossroads and trying to figure my schedules out for everything and I keep flipping on what I'm doing. I have a race the last weekend in July and 2 weeks before that is 16 weeks out for NYC so I keep playing w/ how I'm going to figure my schedule after July out.

I'm starting to get a little tight, so tomorrow I start back up w/ PiYo. I got a groupon for pilates classes and never done that before so that will be interesting. What are you doing for strength training? I need to change things up a bit. Right now for my legs 1 day I'll use the machines w/ low weights and high reps to help build endurance and 1 day I do body weight stuff like squats, lunges, calf raises that type of stuff.
Last fall I strained my foot and went to see a doctor (who is the medical director for our local marathon). She recommended a core class at a local group workout facility, and I've been going there ever since. I'm going to try to stick to the core class on Mondays (strong core is important for runners, per my doc - keeps your pelvis stable, which promotes good biomechanics) and an overall strength training class on Wednesdays. It's all kinds of stuff - we use Dumbbells, TRX straps, medicine balls, kettle bells, BOSU trainers, etc. never the same class twice.

And then yoga on Fridays. :)
I'm doing the Michelle Bridges (the female trainer on the Aussie version of the Biggest Loser) 12 week half/body transformation program. Just started this week, but I've been following random weeks of the 10k program for a few weeks to get a feel for it. After our tough 10k the weekend before last, I had a full week off training, ready to get stuck in!

I'll admit, this is going to be a hard slog. The program calls for about an hour a day, 6 days a week. There are 3 running days, the rest is strength training, all specific exercises to target the right areas for runners. Winter has just officially begun down under, and it's been icy cold in the mornings. In order to fit my workouts in before work, I have to be up and on the road by 5:30am. Since it's still well and truly dark at that time of the morning, I don't feel that safe going on the nice flat creek trail, and have to stick to the hillier main roads. But at least I get the flat bit for my long run on the weekends lol!

I bought a bikini on the weekend (which I hope to be able to look decent in by race weekend) which I am using as motivation for my non-running days and to keep my nutrition on track. So far it's working a treat!
That sounds intense! I hope you get awesome results from it. I'll be curious to hear what you think!

I do my workouts before work too. Never thought I'd be an AM exerciser!

Ugghhhh. RICE!! We have plenty of time. Hope you feel better soon!

Ouch! Still plenty of time though so make sure you rest as much as you need.

proof of time question.... When you submitted the link for the proof of time, did you submit a link to the race site where you can click to go to the website of the timing company or the link to the timing company site where the race results are located. Is providing either link ok? Thanks in advance

I always try to make it easy for them and give as direct a link as I can find to the actual results.

Be careful with those gloves not only the heat but what about coming into the water stations. Big hands small cups! Could cause a problem.

@Kelly1, thanks for the tip. I was thinking about that too. Not sure how I will take pictures with those giant 4 finger gloves? They will be great to "high-four" the crowd! Probably need some practice runs with them to figure out how to drink and take pictures.

Did my first track workout last night... It was actually not that bad. Maybe it will help me pick up the overall speed a bit.

So we should be seeing medal designs soon, right? I cannot wait!!!

@mbwhitti ahhh, I hope so!! I think we already pretty much know what the Dumbo, 10K and 5K medals will look like (assuming Dumbo & 10K medals look like the Galloway training plans, and the 5K medallion looks like the Facebook "In Training" cover art)...but I'm curious to see what the half medal is. Is it really just the "D" with a "10th anniversary" banner, like the art has had so far?! Hmm...

@Ariel484 - did you see the update SparkleSkirts just posted on their Facebook??!?

I was looking forward to shopping them at the half since I don't really know what size/style would work best for me. :(

UGH. No, not until I read your message.

They aren't coming to DL this year! :( Probably good for my wallet but sad just the same.

Bummer! I was hoping to try them, too! Hopefully they'll be at WDW in January ...

Oh what??? Bad for my wallet... I was going to buy mine there so I didn't have to pay for international shipping :sad2:

If you are still interested in buying, you can always ship to my house (in CA) and I will bring it to you @ DL! (I'm driving, so I'll have plenty of space in the car.)
