Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Me too! Maybe 2017 or 18 for me again. Gotta have kids sometime before I'm 35, lol.

I've got two kids and their activities and sports are a primary reason that we won't make WDW weekend next two years. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Kids are awesome.

Of course, DW and I haven't told the kids we are going to do Dumbo and they are staying home. Expecting some backlash on that one.

Not sure if this has been discussed before or not, but is there a guideline of corral placement according to predicted finish time? I'm trying to get a handle on the length of time i'll be standing around in the corrals before go time.

Thanks!

Wow not many people on here registering for WDW!

I really hope they don't go to a lottery system. It would make it REALLY hard for international runners! I had my airfares and accommodation booked nearly a year out for this year's DL half!

It has been discussed in previous year's threads. If you do a search for the official thread 2014 you should be able to find it.

Here is a brief rundown of what I remember without searching for the thread myself (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I think the corrals went up to J. The last corral is basically people who don't have POT or are expecting to take more than 3:30. The second last corral was for people with a proof of time between 3:15-3:30. The third last corral was for people with a POT between 2:30-3:15. And the 4th last corral was for 2:15-2:30 I think. That was the one I was aiming for, but it's not going to happen - I'll have to be content with the 3rd last corral (based on last year's placements). The last 3 corrals contained nearly half of all the runners with about 3000 in each - they were massive!

The corrals are usually opened about an hour before the start time - so 4:30am for a 5:30am start. They release the first corral (which is basically people who actually have a chance of winning the race) at 5:30am, then every few minutes until everyone has gone. I didn't do it last year (just the 5k and 10k), but I imagine with that many people in the last corrals, it would probably take a while for everyone to pass through the starting line. It's highly likely that the last corral wouldn't actually start until after 6am. This is a bit of a catch 22, because if you are in the last corral, you really want to get there nice and early so that you can at least be at the front of the corral, but then you'd be standing around waiting for at least an hour and a half to actually start running!

There was not much in the way of entertainment until about 5:15am, when the race announcers got up on stage (last year with Stitch) to get the crowd going. Once they start releasing corrals, they basically go through the same spiel for each one, so it gets a bit repetitive! Most people stood up the whole time, but my legs were tired so I sat down until the race announcers appeared.

If you want to improve your corral placement (so that you're not standing around for so long, and to give yourself more of a buffer from the sweepers), you have until 2nd June to lodge your POT.

I didn't really advertise it but I actually registered for Dopey during the pre reg. so I'm doing WDW in 2016.

And I don't think they will go lottery. Things calmed down after the initial rush in the first hour. 10k, 5k, and half are the only ones sold out so far. But Dopey will probably sell out soon. That still leaves the full and Goofy. And the kids races.

Were you seriously thinking about it??
I'd be lying if I said no. Every time a runDisney race comes along there's always a part of me that REALLY wants to do it. Even Avengers is tempting me and that theme doesn't interest me in the slightest. But realistically I know I won't sign up this time.

Alright rD...the initial rush of Marathon Weekend registration has died down. Let's see that 10K training plan!!! :)

The more time that passes, the more worried I am that the theming won't be absolutely epic but instead just something they threw together last-minute because they couldn't fully realize a concept. :rolleyes1

No WDW for me, either. After 2 Disney trips this year (DL and W&D), and a Hawaii trip for 2016, I can't stretch my paycheck any further. I did the full in 2013. I'll be back another year. I'd like to do the half during marathon weekend at some point. I agree with you, Ariel, the Avengers theme doesn't interest me.

Ugh. I hope that is not the case! I feel like they could come up with something pretty great, with it being both the 60th anniversary of Disneyland AND the 10th anniversary of the half marathon. If they just throw something crappy together I'll be pretty disappointed.

Yeah, we've got some cruising and some holiday travel coming up. January just isn't in the cards for me for 2016.

I'm with y'all on the Avengers theming. I'm not super interested in Star Wars either - I guess I just prefer the more girlie Princess themes and the generic theme park themes.

DLR has been talking so much about the Diamond celebration, I hope the half bling is the traditional D with a big diamond-like crystal.

And since lots of the merchandise they've rolled out has featured Mickey and Minnie in their party attire, I wouldn't mind at all if that's the 10k theme.

You hear that RunDisney?? Look at the ideas I just gave you!

I wonder if the delay is due to Jeff Galloway revising the run/walk training. According to my Galloway trainer, he no longer advocates a one minute walk break. The future ones will have no more than a 30 second walk. Apparently people were slowing down too much during the minute so the last 30 seconds had no additional benefit.

:worship: This would be perfection. Just some sort of classic theme would be awesome!

Star Wars doesn't do it for me either. As I've said in other threads, they need to introduce a Pixar Race weekend! I would be all over that!

I have heard the same thing about changing to the 30-second walk breaks (something I plan to start experimenting with), but it never occurred to me that it would mean revising the rD training plans. Great point.

Technically they aren't late with the plans...assuming that 1. They go with a 19-week plan for the half/Dumbo and 2. week 19 is the week AFTER the race, as they have done with past plans and 3. I can count, it seems like the training plans SHOULD be starting on May 4.

I agree! Always tempting! I part of me felt a little sad as I saw other people talking about registering.

YES YES YES!!

Great minds think alike.......I checked Dopey link last night before going to bed even though I know it's not in the cards this year. Glad the registration is over, no more temptation. Will probably do all of the races at some point but Avengers is way down the list for me too.
