Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Congrats on everyone who ran this morning!

I'm currently en route to WDW (somewhere over Mississippi) and I was hoping someone could speak to/ share a pic of the Full Marathon champion jackets.... Kind of (TOTALLY) have my heart set on one, so I hope they don't sell out/ suck :rotfl:

This is my first expo at WDW... I have a sense it will blow the DL expos out of the water....

Thank you! :wave2:

Looks like it will be slightly chilly on Saturday morning for the 1/2 Marathon. If I bring a cheap pair of sweats to keep me warm up till the start of the race them dump them by the side of the road never to see them again, would that make me a bad person or is that common/expected?

It certainly was common this freezing morning! I even considered picking up some of the discarded clothes to slow the onset of hypothermia. I am pretty sure Disney collects the discarded clothes and donates them so you would not be a bad person.

It only makes you a well prepared participant and you you will most likely be the envy of those that didn't think to do the same! ;) Disney does donate clothes left in the corral/staging areas. There will be boxes marked for clothing! Toss them in one as soon as you are ready... the boxes are along the outside of the corrals, and go up to the early corrals I believe so don't fell like you have to dump them as soon as you are in your corral. I hold onto mine for as long as I can. I am a weather wimp.

To echo another post, I believe Disney picks up all the discarded clothes & donates them, so I'd say it's both reasonable & a good thing to do since they'll get donated!

Just got out of the expo not crowded at all really only thing was sold out of a lot of the NB shoes and the RunDisney magicbands that I wanted were gone.

I ran the Wine and Dine half marathon this past Nov. It was chilly and it started raining while we were waiting in the corrals. I had my running clothes on, a long sleeve tech shirt, a sweatshirt to throw off and my rain poncho. (I am a big weather wimp)

As we moved up the corrals there were lots of discarded rain ponchos, jackets, etc that people had left hanging over the side of the fence. People in my corral started picking up some of the rain ponchos and jackets and passing them out to other runners who were cold. One girl in front of me only had on a sleeveless running shirt and she was shivering. She happily took a jacket that had been discarded and put it on. i don't know how long she kept it on, but it kept her from shivering while we were waiting.

For those that live or are staying local (within 10-15 minutes), but not staying at a Disney resort what time would you recommend driving yourself to Epcot on Sunday morning for the full? Basically I was thinking of heading over just after 3 AM and having the car in the parking to eat and rest before heading off to my corral. I know the road network and closures well, but was just worried about fighting traffic. I drove myself to the wine and dine but that was a much smaller race.

Yes, extremely easy. They are right outside the finish area. You can even grab a beer in the finish area, so make sure you bring a few bucks for that one! After doing Dopey last year, that was the best tasting beer I ever had.

If you buy a beer at the expo and get the souvenir cup and bring it in your bag check bag, your beer after the race in the finish area will be half price.

Hi all!! Ran the 5K this morning with my son and sister. While we had "backup" warm clothes for my son, my sister and I were in shorts -- WOW was that wait freezing!!! Guess I was in denial about it being THAT cold in Florida! LOL!

We're doing the half, and although it won't be AS cold, we're looking to buy some long pants or capris. Didn't look for that at all while at the expo. Anyone know whether we can expect to find that in plentiful enough supply at the expo? Would HATE to make another trip there only to find that they don't have what we need.

Thanks!!! :-)

Best tip I heard all week! Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

You could try Fit2Run at Downtown Disney. :)

If you have a car, try one of the outlet malls.
There's one on Vineland Avenue (just off of property), and one on International.

Another cold morning today. Not looking forward to waiting in mid 40's for the run to start for the half. Thought is was to warm up some. At least the full is warmer. ::yes::

What are people planning to wear as far as shirts/tops for the actual race tomorrow (the half)?

Looks like it'll be low- to mid-40s at the start time, going up to maybe low 50s towards the end (for slower run-walkers like me).

Trying to decide if I should wear a light long sleeved shirt under my t shirt for the actual race (I'll have another long sleeve throw away shirt on top for the ore-race time). I tend to warm up faster than most people, and I'm concerned the long sleeved undershirt will be too much once the sun comes up.

I'm wearing my WISH shirt with a long sleeve top over it. I plan to ditch the top after I warm up in 30-45 minutes.
