....especially the Dopey....
....especially the Dopey....
I want to see the dopey so badly! They had already released it this time last summer, I remember waiting in a line to hold the medal at the Disneyland expo. I had friends over this weekend and they started touching my marathon medal--I had to tell myself to calm down when they started spinning Mickey because all I could think was "If they break it....".
Is anyone else feeling better about their Goofy/Dopey decision? I've been doing higher than usual mileage for the Marine Corps (now in the 35-40 range) which includes back to back weekend runs (7 miles/15 miles) and so far I've been holding up okay and not minding the extra mileage, even with the heat and humidity. As long as I don't try and PR the 10K or 1/2, I think I might actually do this.
I can already taste my breakfast reservations--Ohana after the 5k, Kona after the 10K! I'm so happy we're staying at the Polynesian.
Generally, this sounds a lot like PF (plantar fasciitis). It is a hard heal. I would roll the pain area with a can of frozen juice. Also, do not walk around bare footed. The thought is that like most tendonitis, it heals up while you sleep and then the first thing a sufferer does is over use the repair by getting out of bed. Get some stiffer soled slippers and step into them before moving away from the bed.
Also, head to a doctor for a hands on look. Obviously, a forum produces at best a guess of your condition. More than likely if I am correct a doctor will scribe some rest and a NSAID. If it continues, they may look to a cortisone injection. Do take a couple weeks off if one is received to allow the tendons time to firm back up.
Course question, that maybe only Coach Charles can answer...Back story first.
Well, I just found out my wife was nice enough to register me for the marathon a couple of months ago before my hip injury came to light. Three weeks ago I had hip surgery and of course will be unable to properly train for the race so I will be skipping it. I know rolling it over is an option now, but I am considering something else.
I have tow friends who are running this race for the first time. One, a Boston qualifying sub 3 hour marathoner and another who is attempting his first using a Galloway run/walk plan.
Now, that being said we are staying at bay Lake and I am considering running from the Contemporary through Magic Kingdom with my faster friend, then looping back around Magic Kingdom and meeting up with friend 2 for a second loop.
Question is (as many times I have done this race, I just don't know), when the course turns left on to Floridian Way after Magic Kingdom, is there anything other than hundreds of yellow cones keeping me from turning right?
I will have a head lamp so seeing won't really be an issue, but I just don't know if that is normally a closed service road and not accessible by foot, or it it is open, just not part of the course.

Transfer Policy
Entry fees for the 2014 Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend events are NON-REFUNDABLE.
If you are currently registered for the 2014 Walt Disney World® 10K, Walt Disney World® Half Marathon, Walt Disney World® Marathon or Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge or Dopey Challenge, you may transfer your registration to one of the other four races, subject to availability, on or before December 1, 2013. A transfer fee will be charged PER TRANSFER.
Transfers are not allowed for the Disney Family Fun Run 5K or runDisney Kids Races events.
All races are non-transferable from participant to participant
Dates, times and prices subject to change.
All races are subject to capacity limits and may close at any time.
I do not know anyone who has ever tried to switch races once they were full, but the way I read it, no...you would not legally be able to unless they reserve some in each race for transfers.
I do know other races that reserve some spots for transfers even after a race is filled to capacity, so might be worth a call even if it has not worked in the past. Often times, rules like this change and they do not advertise it.
Thanks for the info! I will check on it. I am really going to try and ramp up my training because I reeeeeeeally want to do the full. I have a half marathon on October that I feel I am not ready for but there is another one in November I may do just to see if I am boost my corral time...
I have a question relating to proof of time.
Does Disney accept a 15k proof of time for the full marathon? I know they say the race has to be 10 miles or longer (and technically a 15k is not), but some of the 15k races around seem to market as 10 mile races, so I didn't know if that was something that was just accepted in the running world.
Thanks!

What kind of pace do you need to run in order to be able to ride Everest during the race? Does it only start running at park opening? Is it possible to be too fast and it's not open yet? Have runners done any other attractions mid-race?

As it stands, any proof of time needs to be submitted by November 1, 2013 for Marathon Weekend.
Yes, it is possible to be too fast, especially with the new course. The coaster is now around mile 13 or so, meaning you need to run about a 3-hour half if you're starting in one of the middle corrals. If you're in a later coral, you can go a bit faster.
John hit it on the head. Now that ht e half is just past Everest most of the race passes before the ride opens. Frankly, it is the only ride near the course that one can easily get to - or really feel like getting to. I would think that you really would not want to add a mile to ride ToT ... plus the down time of waiting for the line since the park will be open for a while.
